Anthony Horowitz at MURDER BY THE BOOK on 13/11/11
House of Silk Special Edition Review
The book itself is wonderfully written. Horowitz has managed to match Conan Doyle's gift of prose, tone and pace perfectly. The story-telling is brisk and makes perfect reading for a fan of the original stories and I've no doubt that young newcomers, seduced by Horowitz's Alex Rider creation, will find much to like in the characters of Holmes and Watson.

CNN: Inside the new Sherlock Holmes Book

Anthony Horowitz - Sherlock Holmes - House of Silk
CNN: How long have you been a fan of Sherlock Holmes? Do you remember reading your first Holmes story?
Anthony Horowitz: I was given a complete collection of Sherlock Holmes short stories and the four novels when I was 16. I remember reading "The Sign of Four" first and loving it. The book has a wonderful story with the tentacles of imperial India spreading all the way to suburban London. It has great characters, a macabre murder and a terrific chase down the River Thames. From that moment, I was hooked.

Ten Rules for Writing a Sherlock Holmes Novel
It may well be that Sherlock Holmes is the reason why I have spent so much of my life writing crime fiction of my own and if there is one small boast that I occasionally make, it's that I have probably written more fictional murders than any other writer. Ever. The crime figures can be quickly totted up.
If you were to ask what has made Sherlock Holmes the most successful and best loved detective of all time, I would argue that it is not in fact the crimes or the mysteries. It seems to me that the appeal of the books has much more to do with character, the friendship of Holmes and Watson, the extraordinary and very rich world they inhabit and the genuine and often under-rated excellence of Conan Doyle's writing, a touch melodramatic at times but still very much in the tradition of gothic romance. When I was asked to write The House of Silk, I realized that this would be the key. I had to become invisible. I had to find that extraordinary, authentic voice.
So, I set out the ten rules which I would have beside me as I wrote The House of Silk – and here they are. If you've read the book, you can judge for yourself how well they were kept and, indeed, if they were worth keeping.

BBC News: Anthony Horowitz reopens the Sherlock Holmes casebook
Anthony Horowitz explains why he was so keen to resurrect Sherlock Holmes – 81 years after the death of his creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
"I'm not an arrogant person by nature, but in this case I just knew I could do it," says Anthony Horowitz.
The best-selling author is talking about his novel, The House of Silk – a brand new Sherlock Holmes adventure for 21st century readers.
It is the first time a Sherlock Holmes story has been officially sanctioned by the Conan Doyle estate.
When Horowitz was asked just over a year ago if he wanted to take on the challenge, he already had most of the plot worked out by the end of the meeting.

House of Silk – The Guardian Review
The Guardian's Ian Sansom reviews the House of Silk:
"So, all of the elements are there: the data, the data, the data. Nothing of consequence overlooked. And yet can Horowitz, like Holmes, make from these drops of water the possibilities of an Atlantic or a Niagra? Can he astonish us? Can he thrill us? Are there "the rapid deductions, as swift as intuitions, and yet always founded on a logical basis" that we yearn for?
Emphatically, yes."

House of Silk Review by ReaderDad
"The House of Silk is a must for all fans of Sherlock Holmes. Pitch-perfect characterisation combined with a complex and involving plot leave the reader in no doubt that Holmes – and the spirit of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle – are alive and well in the form of Anthony Horowitz. As I mentioned at the start of this review, I have high hopes that this will not be Mr Horowitz's last foray into the world of Holmes."
