Tired, but happy
In brief... the past few days have been very busy but good busy, because it means I haven't had time for my black dog.
Playing production assistant on set for Black Milk's latest film, Regression. Busy, dirty work... but because I'm also married to one of the directors, I got to spend most of the day working on edits for my fiction-related endeavours when they don't need me to go buy fake blood.
Finished edits for an urban fantasy novel. Started second-round edits on another.

Day of the Cranky Cow
All things considered, I had a good weekend. Didn't write as much as I wanted to (only managed 1 500 words over two days) but I hosted the writers' guild at my house due to the soccer madness in the city centre.
Had friends L and D camp at our house over the weekend, which was cool. They're an item now. **grins**
Of course I wasn't much of a happy puppy with my sore back, which grew progressively worse by the end of the weekend.
And wasn't helped by the fact that a neighbourhood pooch was knoc...

Exhaustapated...
I love that word. It says it all so beautifully.
Yes, I know I'm burning the midnight oil when I shouldn't, but I can't help myself. I've got so much to do and if I'm busy I don't stop to think about the stuff that bothers me. Besides, if I lose momentum, it's not going to be good. Trust me.
I feel like I'm being attacked on all fronts: physically, emotionally...
And it doesn't help that I'm currently trying to sort out a very delicate situation I inadvertently caused and try to keep two people...

Shaking loose that black dog.
I've been a bit low, to put it mildly. It's a combination of factors.
My boss is away on leave for the next few weeks while the World Cup is on. This means there's no one insulating us from Management. Management doesn't always understand why working a little overtime can sometimes be a good thing. What I don't appreciate is having my ability to work questioned. I work harder than a lot of people. While you're watching soapies on telly, I'm more often than not already home slaving away at fic...

Vuvuzela Blues
(Otherwise known as the unique plight of being a goth in Cape Town during the Fifa Soccer World Cup [insert trademark:])
Okay, I work in the CBD on the third floor of a building overlooking St George's Mall, which is a pedestrianised street in the inner city. Many tourists, okay?
Let me introduce vuvuzelas to those of you who are not Sethfrican. Imagine a toy trumpet about as long as your arm. It is available in loads of bright, cheery colours. When blown, it makes the same plaintive cry as a b...

**wibbles**
I must admit I'm hermitting at the moment (to borrow a term from my dark brother A). I simply don't have it in me to really be sociable with people outside of my circle, and my circle is very, very small right now, consisting mostly of husband, menagerie, R (Thomas's film-making buddy) and L (essentially our adopted brother).
What's keeping me occupied?
First off, I've shoved The Ironclad Fleet on the back-burner while I churn out a romance novel. Why am I writing romance novels? I've heard how...

A Titanic idea...
A little background: As a youngster I was a tad wee bit obsessed with the RMS Titanic. Sadly, for my sake, back in those days they didn't have ze internets... and the Hout Bay library didn't really have any cool books about the famous maritime disaster. It would be a while yet before they discovered the wreck and about the only resource (if you could call it that) I had at my disposal was watching Raise the Titanic (1980) on telly.
Granted, by the time Titanic (1997) hit the silverscreen my O...

Winter
Yup. It's officially arrived: The Cape Winter.
Bring on lashing rains, gusting north-westers and a fervent wish that I didn't have to leave my bed for the next four or so months.
Progress report:
I'm editing a novel set in the UK and am loving it very, very much. Author has a delightful voice and when we fix the gremlins, it's going to be a wonderful quirky read. Very British and so very up my alley.

The Fairy Gothmother and other **wibbles**
Yup. I'm to be a fairy gothmother. It feels very strange. My best friend and soul sister just spent a few days with me, down from Namibia. I really wish she lived closer but perhaps that geographical separation is a good thing. That way we love each other all the more because we can't just hop onto a plane and visit each other whenever the mood fits. C will be giving birth in October and I'll be the child's godmother. By proxy, I feel the child is the daughter I know I'll never have. And when...

Drunk journaling
Not quite drunk-dialling and I'm not quite maudlin enough to make this horrid...
But i got a four-star review for Khepera Rising, which I've summarised on my "serious" blog:
nerinedorman.blogspot.com/2010/04/four-star-review-for-khepera-rising.html
This is my not-so-serious blog where I talk about stuff other than me being a published author.
But then I'm not really a "proper" author because I'm not published by a "big" publisher.
And maybe I should just shurrup and go to bed because I've had on...
