A Sad and a Happy

First the sad news. The Sip I wrote for last year's Torquere Press Charity Sip Blitz has reverted to me, so is no longer available to readers. The happy news is that my good friend, Jared Rackler, of Jared Rackler Designs, created a new cover for What You Can't Live Without, and it will soon be available again here on my site, and a few other places.

The story was written to raise money for Doctors Without Borders and has done it's part. I thank everyone who bought a copy or otherwise contributed to that worthy effort. Now that the story is mine again I plan to make a gift of it to readers.

Take a look at the purdy new cover!

Now, if only I can remember how to make a PDF...

Lovely Review for Summer Boys

Queer Magazine Online has reviewed Summer Boys, a short story I wrote for Torquere Press' Charity Sips Blitz, benefitting the It Gets Better Project. Reviewer Serena Yates had this to say:
If you like stories about exotic locations, real men and emotions that will make you sigh and smile with the characters, you will like this story. I think it is a lovely ode to the celebration of life and love and can only recommend you read it, especially if you need cheering up.

The Fall of DADT

This morning at 12:01, Don't Ask, Don't Tell officially lost its power. I've read and heard heartbreaking accounts of the effects of that piece of legislation. For someone who writes daily, adequate words to describe what I'm feeling elude me. All I can say is that it's about time, and I live for the day a person is viewed for who they are, free of labels and judgement.  DADT is now eighteen years old, meaning that, for many who currently seek to serve in our armed forces, it's all they've ever known.

I understand that, across this great country of ours, there will be public celebrations today. While my day will be low-key, spent quietly working, I'll be wearing a smile, knowing that a great wrong has been corrected. We still have a long way to go as a country, but we've just taken a step in the right direction.

After writing The Telling, I heard from many veterans and active servicemen. Ya'll are in my heart.

Extra Scene for Galen and the Forest Lord

I'm a huge fan of Cryselle's Bookshelf and her "Thousand Word Thursday" posts. Last weeks featured two wolves who reminded me of Galen and Erik from Galen and the Forest Lord. With that kind of inspiration, a new scene for the story was born, a bit of a mini sequel.

Find it here:

For those of you intrigued by Jarl and the pregnant women from the story, there's also a bonus scene with them here:

Charity Sips Blitz at Torquere Press

The Charity Sips Blitz at Torquere Press has launched. This collection of thirty-three short stories centers on the concept of getting better, and all sales proceeds, plus a matching contribution from the publisher, benefits the It Gets Better Project. Lets spread the message to our young people that we care, while enjoying some quality short stories by some well-know authors and some that may be new to you.

You may buy the Sips invidually or as a package that'll save you more than 15%.

Buy them all and save:

I'm honored to have a story included in this effort, Summer Boys:

Ferris Stuart has two missions to accomplish while on vacation on Oahu: research for a new Hawaiian Islands themed hotel, and have a little fun, something he hasn't had much of since his partner died two years ago. So far he's managed to halfheartedly accomplish the first task; however, he's failing miserably at the second. That is, until a charming islander shows him both the locale and how to start living again.

Read a sample:

Happy reading, and thank you for your support of the It Gets Better Project.

Excellent Review for Galen and the Forest Lord

I'm thrilled that Jenre at Well Read rated my novella Galen and the Forest Lord an "excellent!"

Here's what she had to say:
Overall, this was a very enjoyable read. I read it in one sitting because the story grabbed me from the outset and I read on both amused and eager to find out how it would end.  The plot moves swiftly and the characters are sympathetic and engaging.  The fantasy setting has some nice quirky touches but doesn't stray too far from a medieval-type fantasy, making it easy to settle into Galen's situation.  Those reader who are looking for a light-hearted fantasy read to curl up with on a cold autumn evening can't go wrong with this novella and it gets a grade of 'Excellent' from me.
