O = Old Classics? Why choose - have both!

K = Kindles now mean you can now have an overflowing electronic book shelf as well as a physical one!

S = Stories you read may well inspire the ones you write.

A = Adventures or animal stories - enjoy them all.

C = Children’s fiction, YA, adult, - work your way through!

R = Reading feeds the mind, liberates the imagination.

O = Off in a world of your own - maybe when you read but then the author has done their work well if that is the case.

S = Scary or silly - there are stories for both.

T = Twist endings are not just for crime tales though there are plenty there.

I = Imagine what it might be like to live in a different world - books can take you there.

What Books Do For Us

Aptly, I could write chapter and verse on this one but I will limit it.

Books are one of the best inventions we’ve come up with as a species. Books entertain us and take us away from our cares for a while. Books educate us. Books inspire us.

Reading encourages empathy as we follow what characters do and root for them to succeed. In the case of villains where we’re normally rooting for them to fail, there is still some empathy here usually for what the hero has to overcome.

Sometimes you can see where the villains are coming from but still don’t agree with their actions. So again there is some empathy. Encouraging empathy is good for us per se.

And then there are the stories of the writers who bring us the books we love. The stories of how they overcame difficulties and became published authors inspire so many and do continue to inspire me though I am now published myself.

In writing books, authors have to think about their characters, what they’re going to do, what the plot line is going to be and so on. Working all of that out has to be beneficial for the brain, I would have thought.

Certainly I know writing inspires me to try and write more and better. The striving behind writing and bringing books out is a good thing too.

I’ve loved the rise of the indie press, partly because I am published by them, but mainly because they are bringing more books to more people and giving more authors a voice.

Last but definitely not least, there is a genre and format of book to suit everyone - ebooks, audio books, crime fiction, non-fiction, fantasy, and all manner of other genres and formats.

Books are meant to be enjoyed. Long live the book!

Books For Life Acrostic

B = Brilliant “device” for education and entertainment.

O = Original stories coming out all the time plus the classics to enjoy.

O = Other formats suit the book too - ebook, audio, hardback, paperback - something for all.

K = Kindle reading has led me to finding authors new to me and I often go on to buy their paperbacks later.

S = Stories, single or series, set in all worlds and this one - what’s not to like about that?

F = Fairytales, fantasy, and flash fiction - these are three of my favourite book things to misquote The Sound of Music.

O= Originality in the sharing of non-fiction has led to creative non-fiction, which I adore.

R = Reviews - I give them and, like all authors, would like some for my works - reviews do help authors.

L = Libraries are fantastic and encourage a life long love of reading.

I = Imagination fired and not just for fiction - what ideas from the past, as shared in books, have led to new inventions or developments?

F = Frankly, my dear, I think the book is one of humanity’s best inventions to misquote Gone With The Wind.

E = Enjoy your books and I think it is no coincidence some of the best films are based on books (because it has been proven the stories already work!).
