We need 2 animated sequences for our short film called 'The Blue Dildo' that's going to screen at our show in Sundance 2012. 

There are 2 props in the film, an envelope and a brown paper bag, that have cute little illustrations on them (bunnies & flowers & cats etc.)  These are the 2 illustrations that I want to come to life by being animated.

Here's what to do:  

ANIMATION ONE - THE ENVELOPE 

The envelope is illustrated with romantic cats and cute flowers, hearts and other lovey dovey stuff.  ANIMATE this illustration to a 10 second sequence that is really CUTE and HAPPY.  The animation needs to maintain and expand upon the sweet, lovey dovey feeling that is the illustration.  The cats can kiss and the flowers can hug, whatever you think works. 

ANIMATION 2 - THE BROWN PAPER BAG

The brown paper bag is illustrated with similarly happy, sweet, cute bunnies. ANIMATE the bunnies in a 10 second sequence that starts off the same way as the envelope, where the bunnies are happy skipping along.  But then the bunnies need to get SCARY. REAL QUICK AND STARTLING make the bunnies get ferocious and bear fangs or whatever you think is frightening. MAKE IT AS SCARY AS YOU CAN.

I need your 'Little Red Riding Hood' footage from our show on Halloween, 2011!

If you were there, or know someone who was there, please, PLEASE upload it to the site.  

As you may know my camera glitched out for the first 3 scenes making it somewhat necessary to get all the footage of that performance so we can make an awesome LRRH short film for Sundance! 

I know you were there recording because I saw a bunch of cameras that night! So upload it! :)

Calling all Composers, all Music Writers!  

The Man With A Turnip For A Head is well on it's way to becoming a brilliant short animation. It's now time we start scoring it. 

What we need is music composed and performed to really follow all the rhythmic nuances  of Gary Oldman's reading of Metaphorest's text. Make the music to follow every story beat with a lot of dynamics sticking right with Gary's recitation.  

Then once we have the score we can then start thinking about SFX and supporting audio.  

Okay, it's not an easy task to score to picture so I am very interested in what you got!

RE: Independence

In honor of our upcoming show at The Sundance Film Festival 2012, I'd like to start making art regarding the theme of Independence. You can record a testimonial of your thoughts regarding this topic but more importantly, you can contribute a short story, an illustration, a song or even make a short film. Anything that regards the idea of Independence.  

We will then take these pieces and put them together in a clever, funny, entertainingly way and intersperse them throughout our show while bringing up audience members to share their thoughts. 

Independence is the theme that is running throughout our show. Not only because it's the Sundance Film Festival but also because all of the projects that we are working on embody this topic in their own way. 

Here are some ideas regarding Independence to think about: 

The Sundance Film Festival showcases Indy Films.  What is Indy when it comes to art and business? 

A child's life can lead to independence, independence from their parents as an adult. 

And as an adult, Independence changes and one can become codependent.  Codependent in a relationship or with other things. 

Political independence. 

Let's get this conversation started early shall we!

Calling all Video Editors, Vocal Artists & Audio Mixers! 

Come work with us on the REPRISE of one of my favorite records ever to come out of HITRECORD.  I'd love to screen it at Sundance 2012!

Here's what to do: 

VOICE ARTISTS: We need even more vocal contributions to this, and this time TRY TO STAY IN TIME WITH THE ORIGINAL COMPUTER-GENERATED RECITATION.

Krrr made a great sketch taking a bunch of vocal contributions and editing them together, exploring what this text might sound like read by multiple vocal artists.  It sounded great with multiple voices layered over each other, but invidividual voices don't quite sound right for this particular piece.  So the challenge is to get lots of voices, but to also make sure the WORDS ARE INTELLIGIBLE, so we need to be as precise as we can, staying in time with each other.

VIDEO ARTISTS: CameronSmith and Kavonne have done great early versions of a video for this.  Watch those here.  And let's find more footage along the lines of what they've got going.  Whether you actually cut video or not, you can really help with this.  MAKE AN ALBUM, go through the site, find appropriate video clips.  It'll be even more helpful if you write in your album's description which clips you think might go well with which part of the text, even specifying times in the videos, like for example, "This clip from 3:53 to 4:07 would go well with the part of the text that goes 'you have forgotten how to dream because we have removed it from your language.'"

Request: Little Red Riding Hood (edit)Calling all Video...

Request: Little Red Riding Hood (edit)

Calling all Video Editors, Illustrators & Animators! Come work with us and make a version of Little Red Riding Hood like no other. 

Here's what to do: 

This last Halloween, we put on a show for seven hundred standing RECorders in NYC.  The evening's centerpiece was a theatrical performance/shoot of the Brothers Grimm's LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD.  Costumed characters from the crowd pantomimed the parts while the vocalists voiced the story, and we all shot it.

Now it's time to make the short film:

I've just uploaded my first try editing the audio together from our half-hour staged shoot to make a ten-minute cohesive piece — http://www.hitrecord.org/records/610429 

VIDEO EDITORS: Here's an album of all the video footage we have so far from that night — http://www.hitrecord.org/records/593080 — Let's start layering video over the audio above.  Also, while we'll certainly use a lot of footage from that night,  I also want to start making and mixing in other visuals as well to create a "kitchen-sink" collage sort of aesthetic.  So go ahead and find any other footage (either from our site, or from the Public Domain) you think is remotely relevant to the various moments of the story and try cutting those in there too.

ILLUSTRATORS & ANIMATORS: I also want to cut away to a bunch of graphic art that tells the story along with the theatrical performance.  I'm really envisioning an extremely wide variety of aesthetics and mediums all mixing together here, so you don't have to follow any guidelines other than one: TELL THE STORY.  Pick a moment, any moment, from the story and illustrate it.  Animators, take those illustrations and start animating them.  

Definitely aiming to screen this at our Sundance show on January 26, so let's get to work!

THE REGULARITY #56 (12/31/11)

Calling all Video Editors, Animators, Illustrators, Vocal artists, Audio Mixers!

I'm back and in full force for our show at the Eccles Theater in Park City Utah during the Sundance Film Festival. A lot of work ahead but I am confident that were gonna rock it and make some killer short films for our show on January 26th.

LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD:

I've just uploaded my first edit of the audio from our half-hour staged shoot of 'Little Red Riding Hood' at 'Hit RECord on Halloween, 2011'.  Now it's time to make the short film! VIDEO EDITORS, ILLUSTRATORS & ANIMATORS,  let's start cutting and creating visuals on top of this audio.  Find out more and contribute here! 

THE MAN WITH A TURNIP FOR A HEAD:

Metaphorest wrote the text, we have an awesome live reading of it by Mr. Gary Oldman and now we are making it into a short animated film! A couple weeks ago I made a request for illustrators to contribute their sketches of what the main character can look like and we have a bunch of great contributions! ANIMATORS, let's start creating short 5 or 10 second animation tests of a few of these illustrations.  Also, ILLUSTRATORS, it's time to start creating the world around the Turnip Head Man.  I'm talking about settings, backgrounds, the towns people, etc. Find out more and contribute here!

and a new earth REPRISE:

We are making a REPRISE of one of my favorite records ever to come out of HITRECORD. The original is a great piece of text written by wirrow and it is prefromed by a computer. Now, VOCAL ARTISTS, it's your turn to record yourself in sync with the computers voice so AUDIO MIXERS can layer a bunch of human voices together to sound as one.  And VIDEO EDITORS, we already have a couple rough sketches of what the visuals can look like, but we need more and more edits on top of these sketches. Alright, as I mentioned, I wanna screen all of these results at Sundance 2012 so jump on in and let's get to work!
