Monday Blues
Monday blues, my grrls and girly boys?
Ugh. In this heat it's even harder to be cool instead of blue so here's a little excerpt of the book I'm working on right now, tentatively titled Intimate Ally--yes, it's the second in the Intimate Series after Intimate Enemy .
Enjoy, y'all:
* * * * *
“I’m going. Even if it kills me,” Corra Haison whispered to herself for the third time.
But she didn’t budge. Instead she hid from the early morning light in the shadow of a skyscraper, glaring at the building across the street as if the sleek, glass-and-platinum structure was her enemy.
It wasn’t. Not really. Well, hundreds of her natural born enemies did wait inside, but they weren’t the ones threatening her—that would be her husband Krand.
The narcissistic ass---e would probably kill her on sight.
Not that he’d get the chance. Corra wasn’t the defenseless little wimp she’d been while married to Krand. In the months since her escape, she’d learned hand-to-hand combat, how to fire disruptor guns, and to pretend not to give a f--k about anything or anyone.
All great skills when you’re hiding from your husband and living in enemy territory, she thought as she eyed the two Nashete greeters standing on either side of the wide, glass doors that she needed to go through. Even with the two females in sight, her gut told her she wasn’t safe. And the last time she’d dismissed her gut, she’d married Krand who had treated her like his w---e instead of his wife.
I’m never going to ignore my instinct again, she thought as a wealthy Nashete couple pulled up in a long, serpentine looking landslider with four armed guards in tow. Instantly the sick feeling in the pit of her stomach dissipated. Made sense. If someone was out to get her, they wouldn’t approach with wealthy witnesses around whose guards were almost definitely outfitted with tiny observe-cams.
She was safe—at least for the moment—from whatever had been eating at her gut.

The Perfect Triangle

Oh, my lucky ducky grrls, we have Tracey Sinclair on MetaModo today talking about love triangles and her amazing new book Dark Dates . So make yourself a martini and listen to Tracey the witty and wonderful talk about all of our favorite threesomes.
Tracey says:
There’s nothing I enjoy more than a good love triangle, so when I wrote my novel Dark Dates , it seemed natural to make sure that the heroine Cassandra Bick had two very different admirers – her mysterious ex-lover Cain, a hunter who hates all supernatural creatures, and the charming but possibly duplicitous vampireLaclos, who is all too keen to get his fangs into her… what’s a girl to do? (If only I could have that dilemma… sigh!) So I thought I’d do my guest post on my favourite love triangles – did I mention yours?

Manic Monday Fight
Time for a long neglected and much needed manic Monday free write. And the wonder word of the day is "fight".
Hit it. Pit it.
Make it bleed.
Indeed, this is the fight you've been waiting for:
Shouts and kicks and slamming doors.
I'm knocked out on the floor
Down for the counting.
Stars circling my head
birds in my ear
I fear I'll stay here
Prone.
Vulnerable.
Unprotected head.
I'm dead to you.
We unstuck the glue
that kept the family together.
Love, light, and laughter!

Evil Stalks the Night by Kathryn Meyer Griffith

From the first paragraph Griffith sets a dark, spooky mood that carries throughout the entire book until the last page that reminded me of Edgar Allen Poe's stories. Evil Stalks the Night is a tale of monsters under the bed being real and nightmares coming to life in the woods out behind Sarah's, the heroine's, house.
The tale begins in the summer of 1960 when children begin disappearing and showing up dead in the nearby woods. Skip to years later and Sarah is an adult with a child of her own. All of her family is dead save her one brother and she lives far away from the little town where she lost everyone she loved.
She's a famous psychic who's cop husband has left her for another woman and is at crises point looking for a safe place to land in these hard times. Her only option is her grandmother's house back in the town were nightmares came true in the forest.
When she arrives back home the one bright spot is police detective Ben, who she is greatly attracted to if a little skittish of starting a new relationship. But even if Sarah doesn't want to start a relationship with another cop, she needs Ben's help as she fights the evil that awakens upon her return.
Now, I'm more of a classic romance sorta grrl but this story grabbed my attention and kept me emotionally invested and completely entertained without any slow or boring points. I definitely recommend this read to anyone who likes a scary story with a happily ever after ending.

Fantastic Fan Mail
I received the sweetest fan letter for
Intimate Enemy
the other day and it couldn't have come at a better time. Fan mail is the most wonderful boost. I had a smile on my face all day and I crack another toothy grin whenever I think about it.
I never realized the power of a nice note until I became pubbed and started receiving the occasional fan mail. I never used to write them myself but now I drop notes to authors whose stories I've enjoyed because I know what a difference it can make in some one's day.
So get out there and shoot an email to the author of your recently read book. Tell them how much you enjoyed their story and how much you are looking forward to their next release. Who knows. You may even receive a response!
