Manic Monday Pink

One this bright sun-shiny Monday I free wrote with the purpose of creating a story (beginning, middle, end) in 150 words or less with the word "pink" as inspiration. Now of course I went waaaaaay over (200 words+) so I had to edit it down, but the whole process took less than 30 minutes and was so much fun.

Her Hat
Pink peaches grew on her head, looking like a flamboyant hat made famous by old-ish church ladies with crisp dresses and sturdy heels. But Savanna was an angular, six-year-old child who looked four due to constant hunger.

When she'd first noticed a cluster of hard, scab-like bumps on her scalp, she'd thought they were the aftermath of a recent punch to the head from her father, Jim. Bumps and bruises were commonplace in her little life, but the fragrant blossoms that grew to sweet peaches were singular magic.
Other eyes assumed they were an odd hat for an odd child. But the yummy fruit was real and grew back bigger and better as Savanna grew stronger and healthier. A girl who one day might just grow into an old-ish, crisp dress-wearing church lady with a flamboyant hat.

Fred's Story

Just heard about a new sci fi romance! Woop! Woop!
Fred's Story by D.B. Story (ISBN: 9781609824839) is about 30,000 words--so a short novel or a long short story. Either way it looks exactly like my kinda book as long as I don't look at the book cover, which, as you can see for yourself, is way WEIRD (and not in a good way).

So forget the cover and check out the blurb below that caught my attention with the robots, sex toys, and a happily ever after ending. Yep, I'm all a-purrrr.

Fred is either the most unfortunate young man in the world, or the luckiest one that you will ever meet. When his fairytale marriage to his equally rich and socially prominent childhood sweetheart was cruelly smashed to pieces in front of him on their honeymoon because she met a real prince and figured that she could trade-up in the matrimony game, Fred could only slink back home to lick his wounds in seclusion. What he never counted on were his mother's friends, and their fembot gifts to help him through his darkest hours. While it would prove to be a learning experience at first with some missteps along the way, it is a post-modern fairytale showing how redemption can occur where we most want to see it happen. (This story contains M/F sex with multiple robots, the ultimate sex toys.)

This one's going on my buy list.

Blushing with Blush

Grrrls I'm loving Ellora's Cave Blush (mainstream romance) line. Ever since my erotic romance short, Paradise Moon, was released a couple months ago, I've been checking out the other Blush authors and loving every book I've read so far. Gilded Folly
Gilded Folly by N.D. Hansen-Hill is another one of those books. Sci fi romance at its best.

What's NOT at its best is the book blurb describing Gilded Folly. In fact, if I hadn't read the excerpt, I wouldn't have purchased the book; the blurb is that bad...and the excerpt is that good.

You can purchase a print book trough Amazon for $18.99 (no idea why the cost is so high) OR you can go directly to the publisher and purchase the ebook for a reasonable $5.24 (guess which choice I made).

Manic Monday Clown

It's Manic Monday again and aren't I in a fan-f-ing-tastic mood. LOL. I even picked "clown" as my inspirational word and STILL ended up grumping my free write. What can I say, the whole point of me doing this on Mondays is to help me move past my beginning-of-the-week-blues so here's my manic free write:

Sad Clown by James Cane
I listened for her laughter. None came. And I turned insane in the sad silence, wondering at the void my expectations created. I hated her a little for letting me down, for not being the clown I needed her to be. To set me free from the compact car ride, languishing on hot cowhide, crisping in the sun. I'm on the run from ruin of my own making and baking like bacon. This little piggy went, "waa, waa, waa," until all she could do was moan about a blown-down home and a girl who made her sorry.
