Wonderful Reading at Java Central

I got to read an excerpt from my novel and talk a little about steampunk and my writing process at Westerville's "Rock the 'Ville" on Saturday, August 10th. I had quite a bit of fun.

While I read, I basically sat at a table at Java Central, which was the same table I used to sit at while writing the book. I used to come there for my lunch break and write a few hundred words a day whenever I could.

Stokercon! 2019!

I'm excited to be attending Stokercon this year in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The last time I was able to go was two years ago when it was held on the Queen Mary in California. It was one of the best professional and social conferences I've been to. Tons of writers, editors, agents, and readers were there and all of them were friendly and approachable. The panels and workshops were helpful, and not too intimidating.

I highly recommend it!

What is Speculative Poetry?

I write speculative poetry in addition to novels. Speculative poetry is a lot like any other poetry, except that the poet can occasionally use a zombie, an alien, or a vampire to help get their point across. It doesn't have to be quite so heavy as that, the poem can stem from a new scientific discovery, space exploration, or something else firmly grounded in reality. It generally covers science fiction, horror, and fantasy, but I've also seen science fact included in some definitions as well.

Henry Winkler and Dyslexia

When I was a radio reporter years ago, I interviewed Henry Winkler - he talked about Dyslexia & how it affected his career & self-esteem. Very cool that his books reach out to kids with the same problem. #amreading #amwriting #dyslexia #writingcommunity
