Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation

Website

Fifty years ago this March, the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation began breeding and donating service dogs. In 1981 they began pairing dogs with clients and in the years since then have placed more than 1200 dogs. Currently, Fidelco places about 100 dogs per year with clients, promoting increased independence for people who are blind by providing them with trained German shepherds. (According to a recent study, more than 80 million Americans are afflicted with potentially blinding eye disorders. This number is expected to increase dramatically as baby boomers age.) Placement, in-community training with the dogs, and ongoing follow-up services are provided free of charge.
