Stitching Up My Missing Pieces
I grew up going to fabric shops.
My mother was (and continues to be) a maker of the fiber arts: quilting, sewing, doll dress-making, crocheting, knitting…she loves anything involving yarn or thread
We spent a lot of time in fabric and craft stores, as crafters tend to do. I’d tag along, loving all the many different fabrics and patterns, textures, and colors.
But I was never a quilter. Or a crocheter. Or a costumer Or a knitter.
I tried to be. I wanted to be.
But it was all too detailed, too meticulous for me.
I was too messy, too fast — too much.
At least, that’s what I thought until this summer, when I discovered a new-to-me art form: fabric collage.
It’s a combination of embroidery, needlepoint, and quilting…but much more forgiving. For me at least.
And it can be fast.
And messy.
And it makes me think…maybe I wasn’t too much at all. Maybe I just hadn’t found a fiber arts form that clicked with my mind.
Fabric collage has.
I’m completely enchanted with it, creating little magical hoops and somewhat larger mountainscapes out of all that fabric I used to adore when I was younger but didn’t know what to do with.
This feels like coming home.
Fun. Exciting. Beautiful. Cozy.
I’m not sure where this is going, exactly, but one thing is certain: I’m so grateful.

Free to Read in Kindle Unlimited...
Everything We Never KnewA suspenseful new novelOut now in print & Kindle Unlimited!A motherless child. His grieving father. The cemetery where catastrophe comes calling once more…
His mother’s death has left ten-year-old Nat with too many questions that have no answers — until he discovers her journal.
With the help of his new friend, Dee, Nat dodges his cemetery caretaker father and dives into the journal only to find himself facing an assault of hard truths about his mother’s mental health that threaten to break him.
When Nat’s world existence shatters into explosive grief, will it bring him and his father together, or will it only cause new wounds that are all the harder to heal — with Dee caught in the crossfire?
Everything We Never Knew is a suspenseful, heartfelt, and lyrically written story about grief, perfectly imperfect friendship and family, and the complications that can rise from a woman secretly struggling with mental illness, alone.

A Poem a Day to Stir your Soul
I’ve felt so lost.
Maybe (probably?) you too.
The last two (seven) (ten) (infinity) years have been a LOT.
The world is shifting beneath our feet. And while this has likely been happening for a long while, most of us are only now beginning to feel it.
We are dizzy. Exhilarating. Terrified. [Insert your prevalent emotion here.]
This is okay.
This is normal.
This is a logical reaction to illogical times.
That doesn’t make it easy…but at least it makes sense.
We’re living the history that was taught to us as children, the history that was a warning, a morality tale of sorts, an education in the ways humanity should not go.
And now we are watching so many humans go exactly that way, and our brains and hearts are breaking.
I don’t have any answers.
But I do have poetry.
This is for you, and this is also for me. (Honesty is important.)
I wish that my words could knit together the wounds of loss and confusion and fear and and and that so many of us have been dealt these last years.
I know they can’t. Not really. Not in the ways that matter when your home is getting sold out from beneath you.
(Even though I believe that words can heal.)
(We can hold both truths at once.)
And yet, I also know/feel/believe that my poems are the best that I have to offer this fractured world.
I have poetry books, yes. But I want to give you more. I want to give the world more. I want to give you more.
I’ve started posting poems on my Patreon. Five poems a week, 2-3 of those being brand new poems and 2-3 of those being older ones.
This is helping me write.
This accountability is helping me do the work that I am best at.
Maybe it will help you too. I don’t know. I hope it will, but I don’t know. We can all only hope for the best.
So there it is. A ministry of poetry. $3 USD a month for approximately twenty-five poems per month to nurture your heart and mind and soul and all those hurting parts. A non-religious devotional practice of sorts.
Let us come together and see what words can do.
