The Lost Macaw by B.L. Blair
The Lost Macaw is the fourth novella in the Lost and Found Pets series. Alexandra Prescott is a licensed private investigator specializing in finding missing animals. Reuniting pet and owner is more than just a job.
A former client hires Alex to find her lost parrot. The bright colored bird has flown away before, but this time there is evidence that Molly was kidnapped. The demand is simple—the bird for the pictures.
When her client suffers a stroke, Alex is left with a ransom note, a missing bird, and some very incriminating photos. She is in a race against time to solve the mystery of the lost Macaw.
Excerpt:
“Your little old lady is quite interesting, Alex,” Halie said.
“What do you mean?”
“She didn’t exist until about thirty years ago.”
“What?!”
“I did a preliminary background search on her. In general, she is clean. No debt. The house is paid off as is her car. The one thing that jumped out at me was the fact that she had a safe deposit box at four different banks.”
Luke raised one eyebrow. I got a sinking feeling. I had noted the bank accounts but hadn’t really given them much thought.
“Yeah,” I said, “I saw those.”
“So why does an eighty-year-old woman need four safe deposit boxes?”
“Why does she need more than one?” Luke muttered.
“Exactly,” Halie said. “So I dug a little deeper.”
“What did you find?”
“About thirty years ago, Joseph and Trudy Kearns purchased the house on Carriage. Back then, it was a new neighborhood, and the prices were cheap. They paid cash. They also opened a bank account, and Joe got a job working for the city. Those are the first records I can find for either one of them.”
“Trudy would have been fifty at that time. Her husband probably a few years older. What about birth certificates? Social security cards?”
“They had them, but conveniently, they were issued from a small county in Virginia where a massive flood destroyed all their records. The county office was in the process of moving the old paper records to electronic when the flood hit.”
“Let me guess. The Kearns’s records did not survive the flood.”
“Nope.”
“So the only records for them are the ones they had in their possession.” I paused a moment. “Do they look real?”
“Yes,” Halie replied.
“So they could be authentic.”
“Or really good forgeries. In some ways, it was easier back then.”
“Anything else?” I asked.
“Not really. Lives on a fixed income of social security and a small pension from her husband’s job. It isn’t much because he only worked for the city for twelve years before he had to retire.”
“Okay, thanks Halie.”
After ending the call, I looked at Luke. He had a perplexed look on his face that I had a feeling mirrored mine.
“Who the hell is Trudy Kearns?”
Available on Amazon, Nook, iBooks, Kobo, and Smashwords.

Book 2 in the bestselling Santa Shifter series!
Miss Claus is waiting for you to meet her. She’s not what you would expect from the 2nd daughter of Santa Claus. Amanda Claus, or Mandy as she prefers, is an Arctic Wolf Shifter who went away to college. As she prepares to go home to the North Pole, she’s attacked in a darkened alley and before the man can be dealt with, he’s whisked away. As more truths of her world are revealed, she discovers an ancient secret which she kicks against.
Check out the snippet below and grab your copy of Miss Claus Under The Mistletoe today!
“Who. The. Heck. Are. You?” I asked as I flipped an attacker over my shoulder after he pulled me into the alley we were in. He grabbed me from behind and covered my mouth with his hand.
He grunted but did not answer me.
It was fall in Seattle and I was heading back to my apartment after going out for dinner with some friends.
The stranger in faded blue jeans, a gray hoodie, and black beanie continued his attempts to hit me. Too bad for him, I just happened to be one of the most highly trained girls in Seattle. My entire life I was trained in various forms of martial arts, including Jiu Jitsu and Kick Boxing.
He had no clue who he was messing with.
“You won’t get my purse, or whatever it is you’re after, so you should just give up now before I hurt you.” I had been holding back, he didn’t know it, yet.
“Never.” He said through clenched teeth. His stormy grey eyes locked on my face.
“Alright, don’t say I didn’t warn you.” I countered when I blocked a punch aimed for my nose.
My roundhouse kick was known to knock out a few of the male wolves from my pack. I wondered how it would affect a human. Although, he was strong and resilient, his smell was not quite human. He didn’t smell like a wolf shifter, he was something…different.
When my foot hit his head halfway through my roundhouse, he dropped to the ground in a puddle. At least he wasn’t strong enough to beat my best move. The guy wasn’t moving but I needed to get him tied up, and fast.
The alley we were in had trash and empty boxes strewn about. The smell of garbage and decay was fairly strong. My nose burned at the intense putrid stench.
Ignoring the offending odors, I looked for some rope to tie the guy up with before he came to. He should be out for at least five minutes.
He was only out for a minute, maybe less, and he got back up and stalked toward me. I sensed him more than heard him. The guy was putting off an air of fury and I knew he had been holding back as well when he pulled me by my shirt collar and threw me against the wall.
“Listen up, girl! You are coming with me, either nicely or by force.” His hands fisted at his side as he came closer to me.
There was no way I was going to let some punk beat me up and kidnap me from an alley. I was the daughter of a Santa Claus for Pete’s sake! Most males couldn’t stand up to me.
“Sorry, but no one takes me against my will.” I mentally threw off my gloves and stood in a fighting stance with my feet shoulder width apart and put my fists up, ready to fight like I have never fought before. There would be no mercy for this rat!
I was prepared to fight to the death if need be.
I fight better in my Arctic Wolf form, and it would really scare the guy, but, we had a hard and fast rule: no shifting anywhere near humans. Even though this guy wasn’t fully human, he may not know about shifters. I couldn’t break the rules. This fight would take longer, but I still would kick his butt to kingdom come.
Miss Claus Under The Mistletoe launches officially on December 7, but for those who pre-order it, Amazon usually delivers the night before, so grab it before it’s live and be one of the first to learn the secrets of Santa’s family! The series is also FREE in Kindle Unlimited!

A Deadly Game Of Hangman
Stella Bruno Investigates is a series of quick reads – books designed to be read in one sitting. Each book in the series only takes around an hour and a half to two hours to read. So, there’s no waiting for days to find out who did it.
The series is set in and around Adelaide, South Australia, and centres on criminal investigations led by Detective Sergeant Stella Bruno. I have the inside information on Adelaide – it’s my home town.
Stella is assisted by Detective Constable Brian Rhodes, who’s approaching retirement, harassed by Detective Inspector Frank Williams, and distracted by Shaun Porter from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
In addition to all the crime, the stories also follow Stella’s developing relationship with Shaun and provide insights into her life as a single mother with a fourteen-year-old son. You’ll also discover some of the benefits she enjoys by being part of an extended Italian family.
If you’ve never been to Australia, these stories will give you a little taste of life ‘down under’ where you can experience the North Wind as hot and blustery and winters without snow and ice.
A Deadly Game of Hangman, Book 4 in the series, tells the story of Stella’s investigation into the murder of a young man whose body is found hanging from a tree in Adelaide’s famous Park Lands, which ring the city centre. The killer tried to disguise the murder as a suicide but there are some things about a hanging that you just can’t hide from a forensic pathologist, like Dr Steve Wright.
The case gets a little more interesting when the body of a friend of the first victim is found hanging from a tree in Morialta Park, in the foothills on the eastern edge of the Adelaide metropolitan area, and the similarities strongly suggest to Stella that she is dealing with a serial killer.
And, just to keep you up until you’ve finished, I’ve built in a little bit of suspense towards the end.
The other titles in the series published to date are:
The Identity Thief.
A Gun of Many Parts.
Bones in the Forest.
A Deadly Game of Hangman is available from Amazon.

EXCERPT:
Frosty air nips at my nose. I stand almost knee deep in fresh fallen snow, letting the diffused sunlight hit my face. There is no sound. Peace settles over me. In this moment, I truly feel like I’m in the middle of nowhere.
Something cold and wet explodes on the back of my neck. For a moment, I fear the worst. A boil. Pus. My father’s description of my mother’s face plays out in my mind.
But then I hear Andrew laughing behind me. I touch the rough skin on my neck and bring a shaky and damp glove to my face. Snow. It’s just snow.
It’s the middle of the day, and my face is uncovered. To make everything worse, it’s bright outside. Freezing and overcast, but bright.
My hands fly to my face automatically.
“Are you going to let me get away with that?” Andrew laughs again.
I twist around and peek at him through my fingers.
He stands before me, his arms spread wide. A thick coat covers his arms, and in his gloved hands, he holds another snowball. “You have two seconds to stop me!”
I flip my hood over my head and drop down to gather snow in my hands.
Another snowball bursts against my head. The wetness plasters my hair to my face. I hurl my deformed ball in his direction. It misses him completely.
Another wad of snow lands on my neck while I gather a larger, rounder ball of snow. “Cheating!” I throw my handful at him. It lands weakly by his knees.
“Here, let me help you.” He climbs towards me and gathers a nice, solid ball in his fist. He hands this to me, and then stands back and spreads his arms wide again. “Try again.”
I throw it square at his nose.
“Ow!” He covers his face and cries out dramatically. “It’s in my eyes!”
“Stop it! Are you serious?” I navigate closer to him, and he falls back into the snow. I run to his side and hear laughter bubbling out from behind his hands. “Jerk!” I shovel snow over his body, and he laughs all the while.
Then he goes still. I stop.
“Andrew?” I lean in close. “Andrew?”
He lunges out of his shallow grave and tackles me to the ground.
A panicked scream leaves my body as he lands on top of me, heavy and warm. Then a strange sound comes out of my mouth. Something that’s never come out of it before. Laughter.
His braid hangs down, inches from my sunken cheek. Suddenly aware of how close his head is to mine, the laughter dies in my throat, and I slap my gloves to my cheeks.
“You have such beautiful eyes,” he says.
My breath is trapped in my chest. It hurts. I don’t know how much he can see of my face—my hood is pulled low and my hair and hands cover everything else—but I fear it’s too much.
“Andrew . . .”

The Cost Of Survival
The Cost of Survival is a science fiction thriller exploring the dark side of human nature from a world on the brink of destruction. Author J. L. Stowers asks the question, “What if humankind could no longer reproduce?” The answer is shockingly disturbing, but perhaps not too far from the truth if our dark history repeats itself.
The main character, Walt Marshall, is cynical and distrustful of the very government who hired him. Yet he can’t say no to a once in a lifetime mission to a remote area devoid of the masses and their overwhelming use of technology. He makes his new home outside a military camp in a war-torn valley in hopes to restore the area to its once fruitful nature. However, Walt quickly realizes things aren’t what they seem.
Walt stumbles upon an unspeakable secret regarding the truth as to why this valley was selected for colonization. Readers are emerged in Walt’s journey and internal conflict. The closer he gets to finding answers, the more he’s reminded of the emotional anguish he tried to leave behind. His path to the truth leads through espionage and treason all while forcing Walt out of his comfort zone. The long time loner is forced to trust and rely on the people around him in order to uncover the facts.
This story is filled with twists, turns, and symbolism to keep readers on their toes. However, the best thing the first book in the Genesis Rising series has to offer is a glimpse at the lore fueling the trilogy. In the short story prequel, Project Genesis, we witness the discovery of the Genesis documents and the formation of the secret organization behind the translation. In The Cost of Survival, Walt Marshall experiences the mysterious language once more. We learn some of the information uncovered in the Genesis documents and more will be revealed throughout the series.
This incredible journey will take readers beyond what they’ve expected and it all starts with learning the secrets within The Cost of Survival.
