The author was a football star at Brown University and later an American football offensive lineman who spent three seasons in the National Football League with the Providence Steam Roller (1925-1926) and the Boston Bulldogs (1929). He was also a professional wrestler (Mad Murdock) and did some acting. Toward the end of his life, he lectured at civic clubs and schools.
