Forest of Reading 2014

Well, the OLA Forest of Reading is over for another year! I had a great time, my book The Gargoyle at the Gates was a Silver Birch Express nominee this year, and I have to say the experience of meeting thousands of kids (on the Near North tour, at the Harbourfront and Durham events), the OLA staff, wonderful librarians, teachers and the other fantastic authors ... it just adds up to a great, great adventure. I didn't win the grand prize (my friend Rebecca Upjohn won for her lovely book, The Secret of the Village Fool), but I did win two regional votes, the Near North and the Durham county. But frankly, being nominated, touring the province, and having so much fun ... that kind of feels a lot like winning. Here's a blog post with more photos and thoughts: http://phdowding.blogspot.ca/2014/05/...

Next week, I head to New Brunswick for another author tour, this time for the Hackmatack tour, which is the final leg of this gargoyle party, at least until I write another book. Until then, thanks everyone, for all the fun.

Hackmatack award video

The Hackmatack award ceremony from Charlottetown P.E.I. last May, was recently posted online. I just watched it and ... it was great to see everyone again! My little speech about Charlotte's Web and gargoyles kind of made sense. And best of all? I sat beside (and got to know) the lovely Ashley Spires!

Here, in its entirety, is the link to the Hackmatack award ceremony. All 11 authors are on here, it was a blast meeting them. Give a listen, you'll hear Ashley Spires, Dan Bar-El, Rob Laidlaw, me, and lots of other talented Canadian authors. If you want to see my little blip, I'm around the 33 minute mark (and thanks to Simon, my presenter and really nice kid): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TuJzO... Enjoy!

Hackmatack Nomination for Myles & the Monster Outside

Myles and the Monster Outside Weird Stories Gone Wrong by Philippa Dowding
So honoured to say that my 6th book, Myles and the Monster Outside, has just been nominated for a Hackmatack Children's Reader's Choice award, 2016-2017. Thank you, Hackmatack nominating committee!

This is a wonderful program for kids in Maritime Canada, ages 8-12, and allows them to read 10 fiction and 10 non-fiction books by Canadian authors as chosen by children's librarians. The children vote on their favourite books and the winners are announced next May, 2017.

Here's a longer blog post about the book and the award: http://phdowding.blogspot.ca/2016/03/...

Here's a link to Goodreads reviews of the book:
