An Improper Wife--I read this in one sitting. Yes, it was that interesting.

It was their last night of freedom. As a final act of defiance before
they marry each other, Caroline and Taran decide to attend a masquerade
-- not knowing that the other one would also be there.

As Aphrodite, Caroline reveled in the freedom her disguise gave her --
she was free to taste, see and say many things she would never have been
allowed to experience as a gently-bred lady. As Aphrodite, Caroline
was able to explore the sensual side of life --

Taran had wished his future wife would be more like Aphrodite: warm and
openly passionate instead of the cold and proper Englishness of his
future wife.

Neither Taran nor Caroline were expecting to find love in their marriage
because neither one wanted it. (They are only fulfilling family
obligations.) What I loved about this novella is being able to see how
compatible Taran and Caroline are and, that, obligations aside, they
would have discovered (earlier on) how great they are together.

He drew a deep breath. "Nay, love, I do not toy with you.
It was an honest mistake." There was some truth to that. "What wife
can fault a husband for likening her to the goddess of love?"

Guilt stabbed deep. She could and would fault him if she knew the
truth, but he wouldn't hurt her with the truth. He couldn't prevent a
silent, morbid laugh. His sense of chivalry knew no bounds. ...

Taran glanced at his wife. She still stared out of the window. He
wouldn't again confuse her with the phantasm he'd touched last night.

- pp. 63-64

The authors show the heartbreaking irony of what might have been and I
love that the authors are able to maintain the suspense of the
masquerade -- revealing clues throughout the story. There were
instances when Taran or Caroline slipped (see p. 63, p. 80 for examples) and I was thinking: Oh no! Will they find out now? How would they react?

I read this in one sitting. Yes, it was that interesting. ^_^

Win a digital copy of Hawk and the Cougar--Adult Excerpt

She’s sure he’s too young for her-he knows she’s exactly what he needs. A
case of mistaken identity sends them on a run for their lives through
the Arizona desert, where their need for each other is all they have.

Forty-four
year old Liz Williams intends to put a stop to the affair between her
daughter and her daughter’s archaeology professor.

But she’s
unprepared for the six-foot-three, thirty-two year old Native American
man who turns out to be Professor Thornton Hawkins-and the men who try
to kill him.

Excerpt--

Liz slid into the last empty desk in the middle of the back row of the tiered lecture hall at Arizona State University. A low hum of conversation buzzed in the large room filled with university students nearly half her age. She hunched low in the seat. Dressed in jeans and a T-shirt, she blended in. Almost. She wanted to stay anonymous until the class had finished. She’d taken the dress code cue from her daughter who, despite being a genius, dressed like the teenager she was.

Emma had graduated high school three years ahead of schedule and gone directly to college. She’d started her undergrad education this semester. The kid was a machine, which was why Liz had been relieved to learn she had finally become interested in a young man—until the conversation Liz had shamelessly eavesdropped on had taken a serious turn and she’d discovered the young man was Em’s bioarchaeology professor.

“Good in bed?” Emma had laughed into the phone. “Oh yeah.”

Liz’s shock had been compounded when Emma had told her friend that Professor Hawkins would be at the dig where she was headed in Monument Valley.

For the thousandth time, Liz fretted that Emma had left home while she’d been on a conference call with Leland Industries’ Chicago clothing buyer. Darn the kid. Liz had tried reaching her without luck. Em was notorious for dropping her phone into her backpack and forgetting about it. Once she reached the mountains, there wouldn’t be a signal for hours, if at all.

The door in the right-hand corner of the opposite wall opened, and the room quieted. Liz leaned to the right and peered down through the sea of bodies. She stilled at sight of the tall, broad-shouldered man entering the room. This couldn’t be Professor Anthony Hawkins PhD, the professor her daughter was having a relationship with. The picture on the university website had been taken on a dig. He’d stood in the distance, straw hat pulled low over his brow. His lean build had been obvious, but Liz had assumed the picture to be at least fifteen years old—maybe even older.

This man looked like he belonged in a time long past when Native American spirits roamed the desert. Jet black hair framed an angular face bronzed by countless hours of sun. The crisp white shirt and tight button-fly jeans he wore belied the sense of the ancient, and emphasised the hard edge.

Light glinted off his belt buckle where a spider web, lime green, Apache cabochon stone was set inside a sterling silver cable design buckle. Before Liz realised the impulse, her gaze dropped to the generous bulge that pressed against his button fly. She flushed and yanked her eyes upward, where they snagged on a broad chest defined beneath his shirt.

He reached the desk and set the tan satchel he carried on top. He faced the blackboard, picked up a piece of chalk, and began writing. The shirt went taut over muscled shoulders. His hair brushed the back of his collar, as if he’d waited just a little too long between haircuts. Liz’s mouth went dry. She could almost feel the silky strands between her fingers as she fisted his hair with each thrust of his cock inside her.

The girl beside her released a low, but audible, “Ohhh.” Liz jarred from the erotic vision. She glanced around to see if anyone had caught her staring, but the students were intent on him. What had got into her? He had to be fourteen or fifteen years her junior—not the man she’d assumed Emma was looking for to replace the father who had walked out just after Em turned three.

This man was no father figure. Liz understood the attraction. What woman would be impervious to over six feet of tanned muscle? She couldn’t deny his effect on her. But she was an adult, and understood her reaction to be sheer lust—just as he had to know better than to seduce his students.

As if sensing her stare, he faced the class and swung his gaze directly onto her. Liz slid lower behind her desk. He took a small step to the left and made eye contact again. What was she doing? She wasn’t one of his young students to be intimidated. Despite the tremor that rippled through her, Liz kept her eyes locked with his, and straightened. His brows rose in…amusement? Before she could be sure, his attention shifted to a student in the second row from the front.

“What are the four areas of investigation into cremated remains, as outlined by Charles Merbs?” he asked.

The student murmured an answer Liz couldn’t hear over the thunder of her heart.

Fifty-five minutes later, he ended the lecture, and everyone but Liz rose. She’d regained her composure. She would approach him reasonably. If he was stupid enough to risk his career over a seventeen-year-old kid, then he deserved everything she could dish out.

Five students waited to talk to him, four of whom were female. He answered their questions in a hushed tone, his eyes on the papers he stacked and put into his satchel. His gaze didn’t so much as flick upward when the last young woman he spoke with leant forward just enough to offer an inviting view of her impressive cleavage. He only asked if she needed anything else. The girl finally left, casting a murderous glance Liz’s way as she passed her on the way to the door.

The door closed behind the girl, and he said, “If you’re going to give Reid his money’s worth, you’d better move your pretty ass. I have to be somewhere.”

Liz froze. Reid? Money’s worth? Pretty ass?

He picked up the satchel and headed for the door.

She jumped from her seat. “Hey!”

Liz hurried down the stairs. She reached the door as it clicked shut behind him and burst into the hallway. He was already halfway down the corridor. She sprinted after him. Thank you, Stairmaster. He reached the exit a second before she did, and she slipped through the opening as the door nearly closed.

Liz started forward, then hesitated. Two streetlights stood at each end of the deserted parking lot, but shadows hung heavy. Her heart raced. She couldn’t let him go to Monument Valley without talking to him. She hurried forward and, seconds later, came up alongside him. His long strides forced her into a fast walk.

“We need to talk.”

He looked at her. “Talk? Come now, you don’t get paid to talk.”

He stopped beside a beaten-up green Chevy truck. He reached through the driver’s side’s open window, pulled up the handle and opened the door.

“Listen, I came here hoping you’d see reason,” she began.

He tossed his case inside and started to get into the truck. Liz couldn’t believe it. He had no intention of giving her even five minutes. She seized the door, yanking it back so hard the old metal creaked. He stared for a long moment, then shoved the door closed. Before she realised his intent, he had her against the car, arms stretched out on both sides of her so that she was trapped against the metal. Her pulse jumped into overdrive.

“You going to use that body to make me see reason?” His gaze raked down her length. “You’ll get a lot further than Jack and his sidekick The Beanstalk did.” He leaned so close his warm breath bathed her face. “Do you go all the way, sweetheart? Maybe even further? How much would that cost? My soul, maybe?”

“Cost—what the hell is wrong with you?”

His brow lifted as it had in the lecture hall. “Well, well, you have a spine,” he said, in a voice that said it wasn’t her spine he appreciated.

Liz straightened. He didn’t move, and her breasts brushed his chest. Her nipples tightened. Surely, he couldn’t feel her reaction through her lace bra and his shirt? Even if he did miss the rock-hard nipples that brushed his chest, he couldn’t miss the hammering of her heart. A mental picture flashed of him towering over Emma as he was her, and the kid melting in his arms.

Liz narrowed her eyes. “What university course does this fall under?” Surprise flicked across his face, and she couldn’t resist a smug smile. “What’s wrong? You don’t know how to educate a real woman?”

“You want an education?” He leaned a hair’s breadth closer. Her nipples pressed into the steel of his chest. “I’d say so,” he added in a low voice.

The reading flowed so easily--Moons' Kiss Reviewed and Giveaway by Bunny

Wow.  Such an interesting book.  This
is not my normal genre to read from however it was so very interesting.
I love all of the POV’s through out this book.  The author did an
amazing work creating this so the reading flowed so easily.  It was very
easy to keep up with the different POV’s.  I do not know what I enjoyed
more the plot with the challenges the characters had to face or the
wonderful ending.  What ever it was it was a great book and I highly
recommend reading to all who enjoy a sci-fi with romance.

Moons' Kiss by Kimberly Comeau--Review and Giveaway

Once in a while I blog about a book I think is particularly special. Kimberly Comean's mainstream science fiction Moons' Kiss is one of those books.

They found him in the South Ofrann Desert, where everything evil lived.

Even those who aren't accustomed to the
science fiction world will like this one. It's mainstream socialistic
science fiction with epic qualities. But don't take my word for it. Take a look at Heart of a Wolf's review and see for yourself.

Manerra, heir to the tribes of Yatra, intends to abdicate--until his rescue of a man-thing from cannibals pits brother against brother and tribe against tribe.  Prevented by decree from harming the creature, Manerra pledges to drive it away . . . and adds another layer of guilt to his already troubled mind.
Rebuffing all counsel, Aya, the nation’s ruler, takes steps to prevent bloodshed in future meetings between his people and the foreigners, and by so doing, hands his enemies the means to secure his downfall.  As political maneuvering and violence escalate, there’s one wildcard that no one’s considered:  the “demon” Kayarra. Who is he, what is he, and what do his people want?

My Review: I normally read paranormal, so I have ventured outside my comfort zone to read a Sci-Fi and am so glad I did!

Ms. Comeau provided a Yatren Language Dictionary before the story begins. This really came in handy for understanding the language shifts between English and Yatren. Once I became familiar with the language it was easy to follow.

For me, the beginning was a little slow, but I attribute this to my being out of my genre. But once again, when I became familiar with the writing it picked up and I really began to enjoy the story. Throughout, the author gives excellent descriptions which made me feel as if I was there with the characters in the book. She weaved and intriguing tale of sibling rivalry along with a young man coming of age and understanding his role in the future of his people all the while tossing in a 'demon' who needed protection.

Although there are a lot of characters in the story with multiple POV's, the author did a great job. I knew what character I was with at all times and really enjoyed the different POV's as it gave me more in depth reasoning behind some of the characters actions.

It's hard to give a detailed review without giving spoilers, but I can say, the ending of this story actually surprised me, which is usually hard to do. There is lots of action, twists and turns and towards the end I couldn't wait to find out what was happening next. I really hope there is a sequel planned for this story because I will definitely be reading it!

Kim is giving away six copies of Moons' Kiss. Swing by Heart of a Wolf for a chance to win a copy.

A book worth reading more than once! An Improper Wife

I loved Caroline!  She was by far my favorite character.  She sets off
to get one night of passion, to discover a stir of feeling, a hint of
decadence, a memory to chase away the cold that will surely surround her
marriage.  So she dons the costume of none other than Aphrodite
herself, and sets off in search of pleasure.  Sadly, she discovers she
is more nervous than naughty and her blue domino companion just isn't
sparking anything but boredom.  The last straw comes when she spies a
friend and decides then and there to call it a night.  She sends her
companion for some wine and sneaks off to the back to escape him and her
friend.  She unsuccessful regarding the second and receives a brief
scolding. Mentally preparing herself for disappointment, she trudges off
to the gardens to make her way home.  It is there that she runs into
the man that ignites far more than she is prepared to deal with.

Taran is upset by the fact that he is being forced into marriage.  He
always assumed that he would be able to marry for love, since that
emotion was lost on his father and older brother.  A close friend talks
him into coming to this masque for a night of enjoyment before the
wedding.  He reluctantly agrees and arrives just in enough time to keep a
certain goddess from leaving.  For if he has his way, she will be
staying with him for more than just a few hours!

So our naughty tale begins by getting lost in a garden maze, watching an
erotic display, to end up in a hired coach so they can discover their
passion.  Taran is blown away by the mixture of innocence and temptress
wrapped up in this small package.  Caroline is overwhelmed at finally
being able to taste passion's kiss and completely loses herself to her
dark fantasies. She wishes to burn herself into his memory.  They both
feel the pull of something more than desire, but are bound by duty to
part ways.

This is an intriguing tale that has you laughing and hanging on the edge
of your seat.  I thought it was an amazing collaboration, and look
forward to  reading something from these ladies in the future!!  You
will not be disappointed in the wild and proper Lady who wins her rugged
Scottish Lard.  It is indeed a book worth reading more than once! Close Encounters with the Night Kind

Drenched in romance and hotness that will make your toes curl and panties bunch

A proper young lady should never attend a Masque...Aphrodite is no lady.

Lady
Caroline has lived a loveless marriage and upon the death of her
husband she is now obligated to marry his brother Taran Robertson,
Viscount of Blackhall. Caroline refuses to allow her first taste of
lust, and desire to be at the hands of a man who never wanted her. In
her last night of freedom, she attends the Masque as Aphrodite, no
inhibitions, just to find a man to show her the intimacies of erotic,
sexy loving.

Her night of passion is more than she could ever
imagined until she finds out that her sexy man in kilt is not whom she
ever expected to be. His eyes are that of her husband to be, Aphrodite
now realizes that she needs to fool her new husband into believing that
she is his Proper wife, not the sinfully and not so innocent wife he is
to be married to.

Taran Robertson is in the same boat as Lady
Caroline, being forced to marry his dead brother’s wife he also embarks
to the Masque for his last night of freedom as an unmarried man. Here
he meets Aphrodite, and she brings him to his knees and shows him
pleasure like no other. With her innocent yet sinfully sexy demeanour
she leaves Taran lusting after her way past the night has gone. He has
no clue that this sinfully sexy woman is his wife to be.

On a
marital journey of discovery – Lady Caroline and Lord Blackhall get
more than they bargained for. A marriage which may have been organized
ends up being a sensual and loving romance they never embarked on.

GEESH…………

WOW,
I brought this book last night and read till the wee hours of the
morning, I just couldn’t put it down. So be prepared for a long night
of loving and reading, and lusting with this one.

An Improper
wife was drenched in romance and hotness that will make your toes curl,
panties bunch and have you eager for Lady Caroline and Viscount
Blackhall’s escapes every which way and place they choose.

The
chemistry between the pair was like a pair of volcanoes, filled with
heat, which not only scorched the pages but wafted steam from every
crevice. Smokin, boilin and ready to explode at every touch.

I
enjoyed the witty humour put forth, Caroline’s escapades to royally piss
of Taran, the hat, the dress, I found myself giggling along the way. I
felt the tension and passion between the characters; if it was any
hotter I thought I may just combust!

Honestly ………………… you will
be sighing, your heart pulsating and your loins tingling. The romance,
passion and loving between these pair was just SIIIIIIIIZZZZLIN….

The
characters scripted and involved within the story were very much
likeable, some of course not, for reasons being behind the traits they
carry.

Caroline reminded me of a wild horse not wanting to be
tamed. She was strong willed, determined and had a sass about her that
every reader will enjoy. She is full of fire and certainly gives Taran a
run for his money. ** snickers **

Taran is everything Caroline
never thought he would be, he is passionate (( phew )) , sexy as sin,
and very protective of his new wife and the lust and passion he feels
for her he certainly welcomes. I loved this character –a gentleman ,
brave, strong and had very strong family values towards his sisters. I
had to say I felt kind of jealous that Caroline had such a hot Scottish
man with a weapon under that kilt that would yield any woman with sense
** blushes **.

The plot and storyline crafted was certainly
engaging. I was unable to put the book down. Tarah has put forth all
her descriptions well, giving us a feel for the historical era in which
she has written in. Everything was put forth vividly = giving the reader
great insight into feelings, surroundings and every aspect she has
scripted in this story.

I must say Tarah has put forth well the
views of woman and what is expected in the 17th century. I have to say
that Caroline was definably an improper wife by these standards, but I’m
sure that’s why Made Taran love her so.

A fine Romance with
that’s passionate and hot, sex that sizzles and sensuality all wrapped
in one. An Improper wife is ideal for all readers whom enjoy this genre,
but be prepared for a bit of suspense to have you grasping at your
reader.

A must read to add to your reader.

Call the fire brigade , this book is on fire !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
