Latest Book News
One of my goals is to be better about updating people who are interested in what's going on with my books.
So this is me, trying to do that!
I do have some fun secret news that I'm not allowed to share (yet), but in the meantime, here's the latest on what I'm working on:
Chasing Lies is my latest complete manuscript for adults. Thriller with sci-fi elements and some romance--of course. My version of an X-Files episode if Scully were super damaged with trust issues and Mulder's crazy theory at the beginning of the ep actually meant something. It's out on submission right now, which means we're waiting to hear from publishers. I'll keep you posted!
I've just finished a first draft of Dead Space, also for adults. It's Titanic meets The Shining set in space (according to me, anyway). I'm getting ready to start revising and if my agent likes it, we'll go out on submission with that one as well. I'm trying something new with this in that you can follow along with my progress here on Goodreads, if you'd like. Dead Space
The YA world right now is a little trickier. As you know, I love writing that blend of supernatural and romance. And that's not an easy sell right now. That being said, I started a draft of a contemporary fantasy called Don't Eat the Messenger about a girl, Haylin, who is forced to work for a supernatural court, delivering summonses for misbehaving paranormal beings. She also may or may not be the daughter of Death. (It's complicated.) And there's a guy who's also not entirely human but in desperate need of her help. Rather, the help of Death's Daughter, which Haylin is not entirely willing to admit to being.
One of my writing goals this summer is to finish a draft of Don't Eat the Messenger--just because I want to--and then we'll see what happens! :) Not sure if I should add it here or not? Still thinking about it.
That's the latest for now. Planning to update here about once a month.

Writing Update: Dead Space is turned in and new YA work-in-progress
We're about halfway through summer, and I'm working my way through my Summer 2019 Goals. Woohoo!
Dead Space, my sci-fi thriller for adults, is finished and with my agent. It will probably go out under a pen name. Not as a secret or anything but because Kade (also a pen name!) is more associated with YA. I'll keep you posted about that and where we are in the process.
In the meantime, here's the one sentence blurb I've been working with for it. It needs to be shorter, but it'll give you an idea of what the book is about:
"A down-on-their luck beacon maintenance crew on their last assignment in space is elated to pick up a distress signal from a luxury-liner that inexplicably vanished on its maiden voyage more than twenty years ago, but their decision to board the ship against regulations may come at a high price--all the passengers on the luxury-liner died horribly, turning on one another in violence for unknown reasons, and the beacon crew will have to fight among themselves and against the mysterious force on board to survive. "
Dead Space
Also, I've decided to reorganize the order/priority of my summer goals. I want to finish more of what I start. In the past, I've been fortunate enough to sell books on proposal (three chapters or so and a synopsis). But sometimes a project I love doesn't connect with an editor on a partial, and then all I have are those chapters. Nothing complete. I have several proposals in my files that I really regret not finishing.
So I've decided that for projects I really love, the ones I can't stop thinking about, I"m going to finish the draft. Then, at least, I'll have the whole story.
That means Don't Eat the Messenger (YA contemporary fantasy) is getting bumped up on my list, with a few tweaks that my agent and I discussed and I'm really excited about. And thank you to everyone who let me know they'd be interested in reading DETM!
I have 100 pages of the draft, and I think that means I've got about 200 to go. By August 11. Eeek.
Don't Eat the Messenger
That's the latest for now! The secret news I mentioned last month is still a secret. But we've moved to the paperwork stage, so hopefully I'll be able to tell you soon! More next month...
