Literary Pride's Review of Music Box Danseur & Reactions on Facebook.com
This is huge for me --- Literary Pride's Book review of Music Box Danseur and reactions on Facebook. Thank you Amos.
Slade, Marlene K. “Music Box Danseur”, Marlene K. Slade, 2008.
...Dancing Together
Amos Lassen
“Music Box Danseur” is a big book (696 pages) and is the dramatic love story about the romance between two male British ballet dancers. They came together because no one else seems to understand them and they want to build a life together. Slade gives us an in-depth look at the world of ballet but she adds twists, turns and conflicts. The two men share a partnership that is filled with flaws yet their intimacy keeps them together. Their relationship is both public and private and filled with drama. Reading this is like taking a journey into the world of ballet, a dark world of passion and deviancy but a world that is very real. Slade gives us two amazing characters and a wonderful supporting cast. The prose is crystal clear and the story pulls you in on the very first page.
It is a very moving account of how people try to fit into life and the pain and glory that goes along with the attempt. We see that if one wants to succeed there is a price to pay and it can be very high. It's a great literary debut from a writer that we should keep our eyes on.

Excerpt from Music Box Danseur by Marlene K. Slade
During the prime of my lust leering days my sexual talents had surpassed the rental boys of the City. I was rather sensational at sex and never paid for giving my body away. I knew how to pleasure a man. I knew how to fulfill a male’s every need with the use of my body and my mouth. I was a submissive volunteer to vice. Sex was all I knew. Never love. Partnered with many bedmates in youth, I allowed so long for my heart to go un-loved. Years would steal by before genuine love would arrive for me. Sebastian was that genuine love. Profound of passion and intense intimacy he penetrated my pulmonary valve and awakened my life to love-everlasting. To lose him would mean the death of my heart.
I cuddled close to him, loving the feel of his flesh pressed against my own. We kissed tenderly. Our touches gentle. Our thoughts consumed with each other.
“Tonight I dance for you,” said he whisperingly.
I tenderly smoothed the back of my fingers against the scarred side of his face before I kissed him there.
He loved the way I viewed him, perfect in every way. My sight of him would never changed. I felt sure in my heart I would love him beyond life.
