New Article At Fantasy Faction

ffjan13Over at Fantasy Faction at the weekend, they published my latest article for them, An Inspirational New Year. I have to be honest and say I was a bit worried how this one would be received, given that it’s a amusing filler article whilst I get my next batch of writers together for another series of interviews. However, it seems a lot of people liked it and found it fun so I’m really happy.

Be sure to check it out.

New Year’s Resolution

bookcaseI only made a couple of resolutions this year. This first, in a humorous reference to all those years I said that forthcoming 12 months would see The Four Realms complete, is that I will get The Thieving King done this year.

The second was to do with my reading.

As someone looking to get published, you take advice very seriously. You hang on every word and you act on it. If you’ve been to any convention and been to their “how to get published” panel someone will inevitably tell you that you nee...

My First Guest Post: The Worldbuilding Of The Four Realms

newsalisburySomeone recently told me that New Salisbury was ‘a bit like Chester’ in the way it put modern shops into old buildings. They’re not far off. I’ve been to Chester but it wasn’t the inspiration for the fictional city. However, over at The Civilian Reader today I’ve done a Guest Post on “The Worldbuilding of The Four Realms”. Hopefully it should be a good insight into how the rather unique world of Venefasia and the city of New Salisbury came about.

Be sure to check it out. If you’re a worldbuild...

2012 Review

2012Traditionally amongst my friends, we get to the end of the year and say “well that was a shit year.” Except, for me at least, 2012 wasn’t. It was a good year, a great year even, especially given the year before. Even when you ignore the fact that 2011 was Shytus Maximus, 2012 will go down as one of the best.

The start of 2012 saw me looking for a new day job (and the job market hasn’t exactly been great these past couple of years)and trying to place the book. I was working on another novel but...

Britain’s Most Remote Village

imbertnAnyone who has read the novel will know that I’m very interested in hidden parts of Wiltshire. The vampire D’Toeni is found in a tunnel system based loosely on the Burlington Nuclear Bunker, located over near Corsham. In that case, I’ve never been able to visit the location, basing my research on photos and articles. But it’s not the only secret military location in the county.

If ‘remoteness’ was measured by number of visitors a year then surely Imber in Wiltshire would qualify as the most re...

Author’s Choice of 2012

whispersEver wondered what books authors were looking forward to? Or what books they read this year that they got excited and geeky about? Well, Fantastical Imaginations asked a bunch of them just that and collated their answers into a couple of blog posts. Part 1 has gone live, and hiding amongst the list of authors (including Mark Lawrence, Anne Lyle and Myke Cole) are my choices.

Part 2 is due to go live today, but I’m spending it on Salisbury Plain on an Army firing range (more on that in the futu...

Be sure to check it out if you want to find out some details on The Thieving King, you want to hear the Eva Mendez story (surely everyone has heard this one by now), or want to know about the first fantasy story I ever wrote.

Be sure to check it out over at The Civilian Reader

Seasonal Novel Extract At Manga Maniac Cafe

extractWhat better way to celebrate Xmas than a seasonal extract from the novel. And the fine folks over at Manga Maniac Cafe have got you covered with an exclusive extract. In it, you’ll get introduced to the mysterious Mr West in a very snowy New York City. Be sure to check it out, especially if you want a taster of the novel.

With the novel officially out on Boxing Day (the best Xmas present of all!), I’ve got a very busy holiday lined up, but I hope everyone has an excellent Xmas.
