EMT Ryan Lasakow fixes people. In the consequence, he's got a long history of interesting relationships, the kind that come with broken hearts. He's pretty resilient though and currently single. When Ryan runs into firefighter Will Edwards, downhearted after a particularly fruitless and difficult rescue, he can see that Will could use a friend.
Will Edwards is the new guy in town. He used to live in San Diego but moved for his job to Boston. Sadly, Boston ended up full of tragedy when Will's fiance was killed in a car crash. Will had hoped that returning to San Diego would allow him to move on emotionally but that didn't quite work out as planned. On the other hand, Will's career is jogging along merrily. He's just lonely and not sure how to get through his grief and find a life outside of work.
So what happens when a guy with a big heart runs into a sweet guy with sad past? Ryan is patient and compassionate but he deserves love as much as anyone else does. Can Will find his way past his grief to love again?

Some decisions about the future will have to be made and relatively soon too.

Add in the good stuff, holiday's together, good friends and rescuing a young woman from an untenable family situation and there's even less time for those kinds of decisions. Chris Kearney is a surgeon working the Emergency Room at a large hospital near the bad part of the city. After operating on and losing a teenaged patient, he runs into Drew Hayden, an undercover vice cop. Connecting over a kid who tried to get out of gang lifestyle and still died, the two men check each other out. When they run into each other at the grocery store, they are more than happy to reconnect and pleased to find that neither of them had read the signals wrong.
It's hard for a cop and a doctor, especially an undercover cop and an emergency room doctor, to find time to meet, date and do all the other things a burgeoning relationship requires, but somehow Chris and Drew manage. Their lives are full and sometimes difficult. Will they get through the traumas and troubles of the first year and a half of their relationship? And, when they get there, what will the other side look like?

Caden and Ben meet when Ben is injured during an alien raider attack. Ben is from Gaddo, a colony so remote and with such extreme environmental conditions, that the colonists there were forced to alter their genome in order to survive and to ensure a healthy gene pool.
After the kind of bad day that only emergency medical people can have, Caden and Ben meet again for a drink. One thing leads to another and they end up in bed together, which eventually evolves into a fledgling relationship. However, antibiotics and altered genetics throw the new lovers a definite twist.
Going home to tell the parents that they are pregnant is going to be interesting.
