Death Derby: A Post-apocalyptic Card Game
Available on The Game Crafter and Amazon.
https://www.thegamecrafter.com/games/...
Win the race. Kill your opponent. Whatever works.
The year is 2200 and survivors of man-made and natural disasters struggle to live in a world poisoned and devastated beyond recognition. The new extreme sport and source of income for many are Death Derby races in which competitors vie to win or just to survive.
Death Derby features random courses formed from 15 track sections, 12 vehicles that can be upgraded with 37 different modifications, and 40 action cards that can influence the outcome in multiple ways.
Be the first to finish the race or the last one standing as you try to out think, out race, and out shoot your opponents. Modify your vehicle into a death machine or speed demon to survive while hampering everyone's efforts with well timed action cards.
Can be played in a group from a single deck or a single modified deck, or you can modify your own to take on someone else's.

DTR2ed post 2-The World
Welcome to the second blog post counting down to the release of the Disturbance Timeline RPG: 2nd Edition rule set. These posts will continue up to the release of the 2nd Edition on June 1st of 2024 to mark the 10th anniversary of the 1st edition.
This post takes a look at the world of DTR2ed, which has seen many additions for the 2nd edition. The 1st edition contained only 8 locations with scant detail to build the world, but the 2nd edition contains 14 that are far more fleshed out and each location now has a general timeline of their history up until the United Earth Federation in Yellowknife takes over their respective location.
The 2nd edition also divides the ~200 years of the post-apocalyptic time period up into three time frames. The middle and longest period is the default with no modifiers, but starting a game earlier or later than that changes prices on stuff like weapons and food and a few other things. This takes into account for things being more wild at the beginning of the 200 year period and more civilized at the end of it when the UEF takes over.

DTR2ed post 4-Types of Rolls
Welcome to the fourth blog post counting down to the release of the Disturbance Timeline RPG: 2nd Edition rule set.
Welcome to the fourth blog post counting down to the release of the Disturbance Timeline RPG: 2nd Edition rule set. These posts will continue up to the release of the 2nd Edition on June 1st of 2024 to mark the 10th anniversary of the 1st edition.
This post takes a look at the types of dice rolls in DTR2ed. As with 1st edition, two ten-sided dice are needed to play and the primary dice rolls require both. Most original types of rolls from the 1st edition remain in the game, mostly unchanged, such as Attack, Damage, Reaction, and Skill rolls. However, there have been three major changes from the 1st edition.

DTR2ed countdown-5-Combat
Welcome to the fifth blog post counting down to the release of the Disturbance Timeline RPG: 2nd Edition rule set. These posts will continue up to the release of the 2nd Edition on June 1st of 2024 to mark the 10th anniversary of the 1st edition.
This post takes a look at combat in the 2nd edition, and there have been some subtle but major changes made to the combat system in DTR2ed.
Perhaps the biggest change to combat is just how fast it gets very deadly. PCs start off with more of everything compared to the 1st edition as I detail throughout this essay series. Concentrating this power into noncombat abilities is one thing, concentrating it into combat abilities is another. The overall effect of this is that a level 1 PC in the 2nd edition starts off roughly as strong as a level 12, give or take, PC in the 1st edition. I've been able to get a single Skill to 81% at level one with test PCs by (mostly) sacrificing everything else at creation, and balanced PCs are still just as much stronger, their strengths are just more spread out. The deadliness of combat by the Skill number is compounded by other changes that have made it easier to land Critical Hits and increase other combat stats.

DTR2ed countdown-6-Player Characters
Welcome to the sixth blog post counting down to the release of the Disturbance Timeline RPG: 2nd Edition rule set. These posts will continue up to the release of the 2nd Edition on June 1st of 2024 to mark the 10th anniversary of the 1st edition.
This post takes a look at the Player Character changes. Overall, this section has seen massive changes from the 1st edition and the range of characters that can be created has been greatly expanded. Paralysis by analysis is now a serious issue at creation due to the options available. For instance, there are 39x38x37, or 54,834, three Skill combinations if you count the 30 main Skills and the 9 Skills added by Knacks. The number of PC build combinations jump to 4,222,218 if the other 77 Knacks that don't add Skills are included in that calculation. The first expansion module, Vicksburg Region, will add yet more (22 Knacks so far, 4 of which add new Skills) as will the other two planned pieces of supplemental material. A random Skill table, for the 30 base Skills only, has been included to alleviate paralysis by analysis.

DTR2ed countdown-8-Knacks
Welcome to the eighth blog post counting down to the release of the Disturbance Timeline RPG: 2nd Edition rule set. These posts will continue up to the release of the 2nd Edition on June 1st of 2024 to mark the 10th anniversary of the 1st edition.
This post takes a look at Knacks in DTR2ed, which are completely new for the 2nd edition. They are roughly equal to Perks or Feats in other games, but are considerably more involved at the most complicated level.
As stated in the post on PC changes, Knacks are 'special abilities that modify a stat or skill or grants a new Skill'. As such, they have a very wide range of effects from increasing damage output, to increasing Damage Resistance, to climbing better, to speaking another language, to learning yet more skills. If you want that special ability to knock your PC or NPC up a notch, Knacks are where you look. There are 86 in the rule book and many of them don't have a limit on the number of times they can be stacked.

DTR2E countdown-9-Artwork
Welcome to the ninth blog post counting down to the release of the Disturbance Timeline RPG: 2nd Edition rule set. These posts will continue up to the release of the 2nd Edition on June 1st of 2024 to mark the 10th anniversary of the 1st edition.
This post takes a look at the artwork for DTR2E.
The 2nd edition contains a large amount of work in stark contrast to the 1st edition, which only had cover art, a world map, and a few black and white diagrams. The 2nd edition also has a full color interior and all diagrams have been redone to take advantage of that.
The Flooded New York artwork is by Doan Trang and was modeled on an old picture I'd done myself that was used for the DTR: Scavenger Edition in 2018. She has worked on several projects for me, including Death Derby: Nature's Rage and some book covers. The Overgrown City was originally commissioned from her for the cover to The Disturbance Fiction Collection (volume 1), but is little seen and so is included in the RPG's artwork section.
Most of the artwork in the book is by Jon Wells. He also did art for the Death Derby Core Deck, Death Derby: High Octane, Death Derby promo cards, Ott & Ren covers, and some other stuff. The cannibal family picture was going to be the 2nd edition cover, but I wanted something with higher contrast. He did the world map, cannibal family, and all the black and white artwork in the RPG.
The next post will take a look at the Recipe changes in DTR2E.

DTR2E countdown-10-Recipe changes
Welcome to the tenth blog post counting down to the release of the Disturbance Timeline RPG: 2nd Edition rule set. These posts will continue up to the release of the 2nd Edition on June 1st of 2024 to mark the 10th anniversary of the 1st edition.
This post takes a look at recipe changes in DTR2E.
Some Skills from 1E have been knocked down to only being Skill Recipes. This includes First Aid (now a Doctor Recipe) and Ammo Reloading (now a Weaponsmithing Recipe). The Doctor Training Skill from 1E is now called Doctor and has multiple Recipes attached to it, including the aforementioned First Aid Recipe. This alone added many Recipes, but most Recipes from the 1E expansion are also included, along with many completely new ones such as the Trap and Juice Recipes. All total, there are 57 Recipe types in 2E compared to 27 in the 1E rule book. This is upped to 58 Recipe types if the Structure Recipes are included in the count.
Two new groups of Recipes were added with 2E: Multi-skilled and Production.
Multi-skilled Recipes require more than one Skill to be at a certain minimum level to have a chance of success. These Recipes are used to create more powerful/useful/unusual items than the other Recipes.
Production Recipes are Recipes that only require the ingredients and time with no Skill Roll. There are not too many of them.
The 58th Recipe type in the DTR2E rule book consists of Structure Recipes, which are covered in the next part.
The next post will take a look at Bases in DTR2E.
