Seventh Dimension - The Prescience, a Young Adult Fantasy, Now Available on Amazon

I'm so excited to have "The Prescience" published. I wrote it while battling breast cancer and there were days writing anything was completely exhausting. Sometimes I think God gives us our dreams so that we look beyond our pain, our suffering, and we see hope, we see goals, we see things God puts on our hearts. It's so easy to doubt, so easy to quit, but I'm thankful God helped me to finish it.

This book will probably be one of my favorites because I know the only way I was able to complete it is because God gave me the strength to do it. So now He gets the glory:)

To check it out on Amazon, it's 99c on Kindle through December 8, go to

Book Review of "The Lake Lights" by William D. Burt

“The Lake Lights” by William D. Burt is the first book in his new Creation Series Seekers.

Jonathan Oliver, the main character, comes from a long line of scientists and inventors, and after the disappearance of his father, sets out to discover what the strange creatures are over Lake Oswego.

Jon's quest becomes more than a scientific homeschooling project when he is confronted by evilness that wants to destroy his father’s legacy and family at all costs.

God is an integral part of the story as William D. Burt discusses evolution versus creationism. Throughout “The Lake Lights,” God’s concern over the affairs of men is emphasized, and the compatibility of Christianity with science is explored, giving the book a Christian worldview

I enjoyed the intrigue, the suspense, and the surprise ending that ties everything together into a delightful and engaging story.

While the book is geared toward a younger audience, I thoroughly enjoyed reading “The Lake Lights” in my “old age” and learned a few scientific facts. I also highly recommend “The Lake Lights” to homeschooling families and look forward to reading the next book in the series.

William D. Burt is the award-winning author of the seven-title Christian allegorical "King of the Trees" series. Other works are in progress. Two of his titles (out of three submitted) were finalists in the 2014 Readers' Favorite International Book Award Contest: "The King of the Trees" and "The Golden Wood."

Kindle Scout - How Does It Work

I am trying something new – Kindle Scout. Kindle Scout is Amazon’s way of discovering unpublished books that might be the next best seller—after all, they are the greatest advertisers in the world and they sell millions of books each year.

The good thing about Kindle Scout is you can still submit your book to a traditional publisher or self-publish. The contract is only for eBooks and audiobooks, so it doesn’t affect the print copy. Your book must be categorized as literature, romance, science fiction, fantasy, suspense, mystery, or thriller.

What attracted me to try Kindle Scout is they guarantee $25,000 in royalties the first five years, or you can terminate your contract. Here is the link for more details: https://kindlescout.amazon.com/about

Out of the thousands of books submitted, Kindle Scout has published less than two hundred. I have submitted my book and am waiting to see what happens.

I would encourage new authors to study all the books submitted on the site at the moment (there aren’t that many). You can learn a lot by being observant. Check out the book covers, the one-line blurbs, the descriptions, and the first five thousand words. See what works and work doesn’t. See what’s in the “hot and trending” category. I believe it’s very important to know your competition. What are readers buying? What do people want to read?

As a Christian, we have a tougher road because our books should meet a higher standard, always remembering we write for an audience of one. One of the biggest challenges is not to get discouraged. As Christian authors, we can be a great encouragement in sharing and building each other up—for God’s glory.

So, as I pen these words, I hope you will take a look at my book on the Kindle Scout site. Let me know what you think. Lisa Hainline, who was recommended to me by Jerry Jenkins, designed the cover. Her website is at http://lionsgatebookdesign.com/
You can find my book “The City” at this link: https://kindlescout.amazon.com/p/32QV...

Right now, Seventh Dimension - The City, A Young Adult Fantasy is trending in the "hot" category on Kindle Scout, so thanks to everyone who has nominated my book.

New Cookbook Helps Homeschooling Mothers Prepare Easy Meals; And Teach Academics Right From the Kitchen

Take the monotony out of cooking and make homeschooling fun with Food For Thought: Quick and Easy Recipes for Homeschooling Families. “Homeschooling shouldn’t just include sitting around a table poring over books,” says author Lorilyn Roberts, a homeschooling mom for fifteen years. “That’s boring,”

Mothers will find encouraging quotes from noteworthy individuals and imaginative homeschooling ideas. “Perhaps the greatest gift we can give our kids is to encourage creativity,” says Roberts. “We can use cooking not only to make tasty meals but to engage our children in thoughtful discussions about philosophy, history, sociology, reading, and the Bible.”

Each chapter is preceded with a unique suggestion to enrich a child’s homeschooling academic studies; i.e., how school-aged children can “buy” rice to feed the poor in developing countries. One chapter is devoted to easy recipes for the young cook. “Worms in Dirt and Crazy Cupcakes were among my kids’ favorites,” says Roberts.

Food for Thought: Quick and Easy Recipes for Homeschooling Families presents an innovative way for families to cook, learn, and serve others both at home and around the world.

Chapter Headings (72 recipes with photos):

• Quick and Easy Dinners
• Easy Meals for Young Cooks
• Cheap Eating – Tight Budgets
• Soups for the Soul
• Cool Salads for Hot Days
• Sweets for High Achievers
• Extras, Extras

Despite being a single mother, Roberts homeschooled both her daughters—the older one through high school. She believes a free democracy resides in the conservative values homeschooling families instill in their offspring—the future leaders of tomorrow.

“If we fail to teach our children how to live out their Christian faith practically, we will have lost an opportunity to impact the world for good. It only takes one generation to forget the past. As JRR Tolkien said, ‘There is some good in this world and it’s worth fighting for.’”

Food for Thought: Quick and Easy Recipes for Homeschooling Families ($14.95, 178 pages, 6 x 9, paperback, ISBN 978-0-9891426-4-9, and e-book, ISBN 978-0-9891426-3-2) is available at most online bookstores and directly from the publisher at https://www.createspace.com/4395285

Lorilyn Roberts is a Christian eclectic writer who enjoys writing in many different genres.

Her books, all available on Amazon, include the following:

The Donkey and the King (ages 2-7)

Seventh Dimension – The Door (YA
Christian Fantasy, the first in a 3-book series)
Devotionals from the Seventh Dimension (Christian worldview devotionals for YA)

Food for Thought: Quick and Easy Recipes for Homeschooling Families (cookbook)
How to Launch a Best-Selling Christian Book (nonfiction marketing book)
Taste and See Volume One (editor of a first-chapter anthology for the John 3:16 Marketing Network)

Children of Dreams, An Adoption Memoir (Memoir)

Lorilyn graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Alabama in 1991. Her studies included spending two weeks in Israel at the start of the Gulf Ward and touring England, Australia, New Zealand, and several countries in Europe. She later attended the Institute of Children’s Literature and earned her Master of Arts in Creative Writing from Perelandra College.

When Lorilyn was in fifth grade, a teacher accused her of plagiarism in front of her classmates. Little did Lorilyn know the humiliation of that would later lead to a career in writing. When not writing, Lorilyn is busy watching television providing closed captioning for television.

Lorilyn says, “When I start to doubt that anyone is reading my books, I remind myself of the millions of people who have read my captions, even all of my mistakes. The best thing about creative writing is you can make your words perfect. With captioning, it’s live and you only get one chance to get it right.”

Lorilyn has two daughters whom she adopted from Nepal and Vietnam as a single mother. She homeschooled both of them, the older one through high school, and believes that the hope of the United States may rest on the conservative values homeschooling families instill in their offspring.

“If we fail to teach our children how to live out their Christian faith practically, we will have lost an opportunity to impact the world for good. It only takes one generation to forget the past. Homeschooling families can restore those values before it is too late. As JRR Tolkien said, ‘There is some good in this world and it’s worth fighting for.’”

Beauty and Writing

It's interesting to me that Jesus never said in the Beatitudes, blessed are the beautiful, blessed are the popular, blessed are the smartest, or blessed are those who are the best—whether it be as a teacher, artist, carpenter or writer. But He did say, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you.”

I have sensed in my spirit that when I am creating I am most like God than at any other moment. There is a subconscious link between the creative aspect of who we are and God. When we choose to glorify Him in that endeavor, the beauty is far greater than we could have created (or written) on our own. When our motives are tainted, we lose part of that beauty. By tainted, I mean for fame, money, popularity, or acceptance.

One thing that has struck me is I have scuba dived all over the world, and there is a good possibility I have seen things that no one else on earth has seen—beauty that surpasses anything that I could describe here. I wonder why God would create beauty that would only be seen by me, or create beauty that would never be seen by even one person. New species are being discovered every day in science, and if I were a betting woman, I would say there are hundreds if not thousands of things out there that are still not seen or known. If we ask ourselves that same question, it can lead to some profound answers. Why create beauty if no one else will see it, believe in it, appreciate it, pay us for it, or give us accolades?

It's because that is the way God is. We will always have the Audience of One, and if that Audience of One chooses to bring us recognition here, then we can be grateful for that. But I believe our rewards will be far greater in heaven if the beauty we create here is for Him, and maybe even more so if never appreciated by anyone, because the rewards we receive in heaven from our heavenly Father will dwarf anything that we could receive from man.
