Jack Greene's Blog, page 2

March 6, 2013

Oh yeah, I have a blog...

Which I only remember, it seems, when I'm procrastinating! I swear, nothing would ever get done around here if I wasn't trying to avoid doing something else...

Anyway, I'm just going over the galley proofs for my first solo novel, Indiscretion! I'm very excited about its release, which is set for March 19th. It's coming out in print as well as eBook, and the print version will include, as an added bonus, two of my best-selling short stories, Discovery and Divine.

Hope you're all doing well, what with all the nasty weather going around. Stay safe!

Worst Apocalypse Ever...

So the world didn't end, and I'm in Saigon poolside at my hotel. Off to Bangkok tonight late... I'll touch down just after midnight on Christmas! So I wanted to wish all of you a happy whatever holiday you celebrate a little early.

Writing lots on this trip, so many ideas, so many pretty Asian boys...

POV

Awesome discussion still going on in my last blog post. It seems everyone has a different opinion on how to handle pronouns/character names/descriptions. I've really enjoyed reading the different ideas, and the article referenced. Thanks so much for contributing! And keep doing it, please!

Oddly, I've got three stories going at the moment that are in first person. I think I enjoy writing first person the best, though I try not to overdo it. I'm not sure how I know which POV the story will be in when I start. It just seems right to me.

Writers, how do you decide what POV your story will be in? Do you ever change your mind?

Readers, do you have a POV that you will absolutely not read?

Jack, procrastinating again...

I'm curious...

So here's something that's been bothering me. The m/m writer's bane: pronouns. Using "he" can get confusing when there's more than one, so what are your options? Using names, which can get repetitive and distracting, using other phrases that are descriptive, i.e., the brown-haired man, the blond, the other man... I generally try to use some combination, but invariably I get comments from readers complaining about any of the methods.

So, as a reader, what reads more smoothly to you? If you write, how do you prefer to handle it?

Hope you're all having a good weekend! I'm off to drool over watch Daniel Craig and Ben Whishaw in Skyfall...

Congrats to President Obama!

I'm happy for the President and hopeful that the next four years will hold freedom: freedom to love and marry whomever you want.

On a related note, I'm proud to announce my newest release, Love And War! Zachary's lover, Alex, is an actor playing Ares, the god of war, in a new movie. But when Ares himself decides to interfere, Zachary's life gets complicated--and hot. Ares feels wronged, and it's up to Zachary to make things right--in any way he can.

I hope you'll check it out and let me know what you think!

And it's a wrap...

I'm exhausted, but I just finished my very first novel-length story, and sent it off to my editor. It's a story about love conquering all, with a lot of sex for good measure. I usually specialize in short stories, so it was out of my comfort zone to see this one through, and I'm pretty proud of it.

So... to celebrate, I'm going to give away an e-copy of my very first published story, Dude Looks Like a Lady. Please comment if you want to enter, and I will randomly pick a winner Saturday at midnight Pacific time.

Feel free to spread the word. Thanks for reading!

You know you want some Demon Love...

Lucas just wants to get through the college semester with decent grades. But when his best friend Trevor shows him a book of spells, he doesn't believe in demons.

Then when the two decide to try out a summoning spell for fun, Lucas gets much more than he bargained for in the form of a sexy, powerful demon who must do his bidding.

Lucas can't believe his luck when he summons a sexy male demon. But of course, things have got to go wrong when you're dealing with a demon! I hope you'll check out Demon Love, my new hot short story, and let me know what you think. I sure had fun writing it!

Cherry Red, and food poisoning

Hello! I'm a little late announcing my latest release, Cherry Red, because of a nasty bout of food poisoning. I wish I could say I got sick somewhere exotic like Thailand or Shanghai, but oddly I never got sick there, just right here in lovely, sweltering SoCal.

So here goes: Cherry Red is the story of a bouncer named Tom who falls for a male model named Andre. Please check it out and let me know what you think!
