The start of what would usually be a very busy week for me. If this was a normal Thanksgiving week, I’d have started cooking last Saturday, prepping for Thursday when my house would be full of people.

This year? We’re doing Zoomsgiving. Which will be fun, but it’s not the same. However, I’m grateful t...

(Forgot the Title Again)

Day 16 of Nanowrimo. Day… something of Quarantine. Day Infinity plue something of 2020.

Has anyone else lost complete track of time? Like, you have no idea when in time you are anymore? I got a call last week to set up my next regular appointment for something, and the scheduler said “Let’s get the December appointment set!” And I said, “Wait, December?”

But it’s November 16th, which means we’re halfway through November, and halfway through NaNoWriMo. Now, I’m being a NaNo rebel. I’m working on ...

RWW: Holidaze

Welcome! If you’re here from Clair’s website, nice of you to pop on over.

I realized the other day that I might just be in trouble with the upcoming holidays. Mostly because I realized that the holidays are upcoming and I haven’t given them any thought at all. It’s not like they snuck up on me — Thanksgiving comes this time every year, after all. But they totally did sneak up on me. I realized just this past Sunday that it’s November, and that I really should start thinking about Thanksgiving.

P...

Focus? What’s that?

HOLY CRAP! HE WON! HE WON! HE WON! HE WON!!!!

So… how was your weekend? Mine was fantastic but unfocused. There were exactly 369 words written on Saturday. The rest of the day was devoted to the polar opposite of doomscrolling — joyscrolling.

Spider Robinson wrote that shared pain is lessened, and shared joy is increased. There was an amazing amount of shared joy on Saturday! And tears. There were tears.

And now, I’m trying very hard to focus and get back to work. I’m behind on my Nano word c...

It’s November! Quick, Write a Novel!

(I had written a brilliant post. Absolutely brilliant… and lost it when I accidentally closed the browser. Ummm… genius is fleeting?

It’s November, which means that Nanowrimo has started, and everyone is going to write a novel this month. Or at least, everyone is going to write 50K words. That’s most of a novel. Or, if we’re looking at the Heir to th...

Suspended in Amber

Did you see recently that scientists have discovered how to extract DNA from insects trapped in amber? The geeky world immediately went “You know, there’s an entire movie series that explains in great detail why this is a bad idea. Maybe you’ve heard of them? Jurassic Park?”

Turns out that those scientists were inspired to do it by the Jurassic Park movies — they saw it in the movie and said “Hey, that’s a cool idea. I wonder if we can do that?”

No word yet on when the velociraptors will be show...

Civic Duty done

Today was the first day of Early Voting here in Central Florida. So I went out and did my civic duty.

And because I was in line for two hours and needed to amuse myself, I livetweeted the wait.

I was supposed to go grocery shopping after, but it started raining and after two hours… yeah, groceries will still be there tomorrow. And I have words to write.

Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice.

Yeah, I know. It’s October, why is Liz being cheerful? I’m trying to be upbeat about it, because the only way out is through.

I can’t think when the last time I was in a Starbucks was, but their Pumpkin Spice Latte creamer that you can get in the supermarket is surprisingly tasty. And, since I don’t LIKE the PSL you get in Starbucks, this is saying something!

I used to like a PSL. Then they started putting pumpkin in it, and now… the only time I get one is when I’ve forgotten that I don’t like i...

I talk every so often about how I juggle chainsaws. (Figurative chainsaws, not real ones.) I juggle being a mom and a writer and being an RWA Board member, with all the little things that come with those titles.

This past couple of weeks, I added three new ones.

Way back when I was a baby writer, I wrote a gaming manual. Psionics for SkillSkape was written fo...
