REBEL PURITAN: One Journey to Self-Publishing

Here is an interesting and informative look into self-publishing by Jo Ann Butler, author of REBEL PURITAN. My first book, Rebel Puritan, was printed in January 2011, and I am so utterly new at self-publishing that my information is best described as incomplete! I wish I could say whether my model will be a success [...]

Eleanor of Aquitaine: Bargaining with God

In Eleanor's day, it was expected that kings and queens would have to bargain, not so much with God, as with the Church. Eleanor spent her life trying to balance the power of the Church in her territories, and her second husband, Henry II of England fought the Church all his life, most famously in his [...]

Labyrinth at Mepkin Abbey

http://www.mepkinabbey.org/home/virtu... On another topic unrelated to Eleanor, at the end of October, I had the pleasure of visiting Mepkin Abbey in Moncks Corner, SC (near Charleston) and walking the labyrinth there. This is an outdoor labyrinth, so I can't recommend that anyone seek it out for a few more weeks, but even in late October [...]

Michelle Moran and Madame Tussaud

And in lovely web news unrelated to Eleanor, Michelle Moran has released the book trailer for her new novel, MADAME TUSSAUD, coming out in stories on February 15. Here's her trailer, in case you haven't caught it yet… And in case you're wondering, as I was, as far as I can tell, no Madame Tussaud's has a [...]

The Image of Eleanor

Though Eleanor of Aquitaine was famed for her beauty throughout her lifetime, we have no exact record of what she looked like. None of the chroncilers of her time mentioned her hair or eye color. One of the two images that remain of Eleanor is on a wall painting at Winchester Castle, depicted here on the cover [...]

Facebook and Eleanor's Legacy

I feel as if my technological abilities are growing. This week, I managed to enter a new frontier, creating a Facebook Page for TO BE QUEEN. Yet another spot where I can revel in Eleanor's genius, and celebrate her legacy. http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pa... On that note, here is a photo of the lovely heirloom vase that Eleanor gave to [...]

Susan Higginbotham and Web Fun

I had a lovely weekend visiting Emery Lee, author of historical romantic novel THE HIGHEST STAKES, at the Richland Literary Festival.  But last week was a good week for web fun… My beloved Princess Alais won the "Hottest Princess 2010 Award" on the Historical Fiction Bloggers Roundtable…and I received the award for "Best Debut Author." So [...]

RBR Books' Video about Eleanor

Clif and Laura of RBR Books in Leland, NC were kind enough to make this video and post it…It is me, of course, in a chair, talking about my favorite woman of all time, Eleanor. I can never get enough of her… I suspect if she had been there, she would have told me to [...]

Always a Writer

I have always been a writer, since I was about eight years old. For most of my life I thought writing was just something I did, like breathing or drinking a Coke, something necessary to life, but something that only affected me. Then as time went on, I started offering my stories to friends to [...]
