I'll Be Seeing You...at Christmas

A little Valentine's gift...

The three of us are so excited to make this announcement! Tricia Goyer, Cara Putman, and I have signed a contract with B&H Publishing for a World War II novella collection called I'll Be Seeing You...at Christmas , coming fall of 2014!

I'm honored and excited to work with these two accomplished and energetic women, and I'm grateful for the hard work done by my agent, Rachel Kent, in organizing this project.

The novella collection follows three siblings from Lafayette, Indiana who experience World War II through the lens of varied experience. In a time when the future is uncertain and romance a risky venture, the love and wisdom of their grandmother centers them as they search for love and deeper faith.

White Christmas by Cara C. Putman. Christmas of 1942:

Jackson Lucas carries guilt over his father’s death like a stowaway in his heart. And now he can’t even take care of his widowed mother. Abigail’s lot is no better. She lost her siblings at a young age, and now she protects the fragile pieces of her heart like a hand shielding a snow globe. But as Christmas draws near, can each one face their deepest fear and discover the gift of love?
I'll Be Home For Christmas by Sarah Sundin. Christmas of 1943: Fighter pilot Lt. Pete Turner is running on empty, but coming home for Christmas doesn’t help. When Grace Kessler’s little daughter decides Pete is her new daddy, Grace is horrified. How can she trust her childhood bully? And will Pete’s Christmas gift fill the empty places in their hearts?  Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas by Tricia Goyer. Christmas of 1944: Combat nurse Meredith Turner has a conflicted heart—how can she still love and think about the man who not only betrayed her but also her country when he fled the United States to fight for the Nazis? As Christmas nears, which is also Meredith's birthday, small gifts are left for her around the field hospital. They bring her great joy until they start getting personal...the lyrics to her favorite song, a sketch of her favorite flower, special memories. Who would know these things? Only one man knew her better than anyone, yet he's long gone...isn't he? These stories have already worked their way into our hearts, and we can't wait to share them with you! For a chance to win a copy of I'll Be Seeing You...at Christmas when it comes out in fall 2014, please leave a comment below with your email address in the following format - sarah[at]sarahsundin[dot]com. US and Canada only please, void where prohibited by law. I'll announce the winner on Thursday, February 14.

Book Beat - A Quilt for Jenna

Finally a World War II Amish book! When Patrick E. Craig told me about his story last year at the Mount Hermon Christian Writers Conference, I couldn't wait to read  A Quilt for Jenna .

In 1942, Reuben Springer went against the pacifist teachings of his Amish background and joined the US Marines, but the horrors of Guadalcanal - and the decisions he made there -haunt him. Several years later, when his young daughter dies, Reuben deserts his wife. Jerusha Springer is left all alone, mourning her child, abandoned by her husband, and cultivating bitterness toward God.

An accomplished quilter, she makes her best quilt yet - flamboyant and pridefully faultless - planning to use the prize money to escape the Amish community forever. However, an ice storm leads to a car wreck that sets her life, and the lives of others, on an unexpected path.

A touching tale of three people who have lost their way. In A Quilt for Jenna, Patrick E. Craig deftly contrasts the peaceful Amish lifestyle with the harsh World War II Guadalcanal battlefield, tied together with a lovely message of sacrifice, humility, and forgiveness. I was entranced.
