Book Cooks: I Write Slow Like Molasses Cookies from Stacey Goldblatt
Today's recipe comes from Stacey Goldblatt, author of STRAY and the newly released GIRL TO THE CORE, a warm and funny YA novel about a girl struggling with self-doubt, friends, and love. Welcome, Stacey! The title alone made me fall in love with Stacey's recipe - I Revise Slow Like Molasses...which might give you some indication of how things are going with revising CREED (but, I digress). Furthermore, Stacey eats a vegan diet and has converted the recipe - having food allergies, I appreciate ...

Book Cooks: Garlic-Lemon Greens from Dia Calhoun
Right around now, I look around my garden and realize how little time I spend there, and how much I could accomplish if I would only make the time for it. Beans. Apples. Fresh garlic. Greens. Every year I think, This year I will learn to grow my own food.
Award-winning YA fantasy author and readergirlz diva Dia Calhoun does just that, spending many of her days writing and cooking at a family farm (sigh). You can't go wrong with an original recipe from her. Dia weaves flavors and spices and mas...

Book Cooks: Purrrfect Strawberry Smoothie from Suzanne Young
Ok, so sometimes you don't have time for homemade desserts and chicken soup from scratch. Like when you're running out of time for working on the galley, and racking your brain for ideas on how to revise #2...Sometimes it's all you can do just to grab a copy of Suzanne Young's forthcoming (and fabulous, even as I read the advance copy she sent!) YA novel, THE NAUGHTY LIST (available soon!), and blend up the sweetest, naughtiest, most purrrfect strawberry smoothie ever.
And sometimes, a strawbe...

Sarah Beth Durst's ICE!
I am so happy and proud for my friend Sarah Beth Durst, whose third novel ICE (inspired by East of the Sun and West of the Moon), releases today!I was lucky enough to meet Sarah Beth at an SCBWI conference in NYC before her first book, INTO THE WILD, came out and have loved her and her books ever since. (And the cover - to die for, Sarah Beth!)
At her blog, she tells of the shards of ICE inspiring the story (illustrations, brave girls, and childhood author heroes!), and Enna Isilee "ranted and...

Book Cooks: Chicken Soup with Rice from Julie Reinhardt
When a writer buddy with a smokin' BBQ restaurant asks you to test recipes for She-Smoke: A Backyard Barbecue Book, YOU DON'T SAY NO.I mean, I would have to be plum crazy not to want to try Feisty Girl Rub, Cocoa Bliss Rub, Plum-Bourbon Barbecue Sauce, or Smoked Beer Can Chicken & Roasted Corn, right?
So when Julie Reinhardt sent me this Chicken Soup with Rice recipe for Book Cooks, I knew I had to post it right away. After all, who doesn't need warm soup on a blustery day?Even better, Julie w...

Funky Friday: Pink Hair Fail
Ok, so I might need pink hair tech support after all - my attempt at subtle pink highlights was a big, fat flop. Was it me, or the product? Hard to say. All I know is, my attempts with Kool Aid in high school met with better success than the bona-fide professional product. Alas, I couldn't locate the precise photographic evidence, but my friends Deanna and Glynis could corroborate:
Well, there's always Kool Aid. And attempt #2... So while I'm working on the big CREED revision (and because I'm...
