Kristina Kingsley is a fantastic character. She may not be the most popular girl in school, but I actually liked her. She reminded me of me! I was never the popular girl either. However, where we differ is that she is a lot braver than me! She is given an unusual gift, and she finds herself on an adventure of a lifetime!

This is a fantastic children's fantasy novel! There are some wonderful characters in this book. The most likable of them are Clover and Looper (a pair of sibling fairies), Prince Werrien, and Kristina's pet rat, Raymond. This book is also filled with some really nasty characters. The main ones being Queen Sentiz and her gross Zelbocks. There are also enemies that turn into friends and friends who turn into enemies.
I was completely engrossed in this tale! It is full of danger and adventure! In a way, it reminded me of Tolken's Lord Of The Rings, as there is an object (the Warble) and a dangerous mission to deliver it to it's rightful place. I loved the subtle humour that the author used to great effect; it lightened the mood, so that the story didn't take a too dark a turn. The story is also told from several character's points of view, which gives a well rounded feel to the book and brought the characters alive. There are also some pictures sketched on a few selected pages to reinforce the story. These pictures are well drawn and show the characters just as described, and how I imagined them without the pictures!

Victoria Simcox has written an amazing children's adventure book! Her writing style is fast paced, but not overly so as to feel rushed. Her attention to detail with regards to the description of the characters, scenery and clothing is exceptional. I could "see" them so clearly in my minds eye! I am now looking forward to reading the sequel, The Shard!

Get Swept Away to Other Worlds...
My thoughts: The New Dawn is a space ship, vast as a large city. It has been home to Andromeda (the protagonist), her family, and her colony for many generations; however this all changes when it lands on the long anticipated planet called Paradise 21. The new world, Paradise 21, is breathtaking, but with deadly infectious plant life that could potentially infect an entire colony. Andromeda works against the clock to save her colony from being wiped out. Along her journey she will encounter all kinds of strange and unusual things and situations; even communicating with a ghost of a person she once knew as well as alien ghosts. I am a sucker for teen romance and Aubrie did a fantastic job on incorporating this into the story. First I fell for Sirius and hoped that Andromeda and he would be able to break the ridged rules of being matched for marriage to someone other than each other. But then, as the story continued, I really began to like Corvus. His strength of character, sweet personality, loyalty and good looks were hard to resist. Soon I found myself rooting for him instead of Sirius. Even so, I am hoping that Aubrie will bring Sirius back into the story for some good ole romantic rivalry with Corvus. This book was so much fun to read and I recommend it to teens, tweens, and adults. I am looking forward to see what will happen in book 2, Reconnaissance.

A Bit About Myself:
I’m a retired high school English teacher. A devourer of books growing up, my profession introduced me to writings and authors from times long past. Through my studies and teaching, I fell in love with the Ancient and Medieval Worlds. My husband and I love to travel. Because I'm also a retired airline employee, we were fortunate, in 2008, to spend three weeks in Egypt traveling by local train from one end of the country to the other. In 2014, we spent three weeks in the UK driving over 1700 miles through England, Wales, and Scotland. MY THOUGHTS The story is set in medieval Wales and follows the legend of King Arthur. Twelve year old Prince Gavin, and his friends Phillip and Bryan will make it their mission to save a friend from being put to death. The three boys believe that the `Wild Man' has been falsely accused of murder and of stealing the jeweled medallion (the king's ransom).

On a single minded quest to find out who the real villain is, the boys will go on a dangerous adventure, which includes sneaking through a secret passage to listen in on the king's conversation, visiting a woman, Seanna, known as the village witch, and ultimately risking their lives for getting involved in the case.

My Review 
At the time of the American Civil War, Elizabeth Stamford and her clan’s everyday existence is hard tried. Lizzie, at a tender age of 14, chose to register in the Confederate Army. Severed from the remainder of the world, Vicksburg is blockaded. Bombarding Vicksburg, Mississippi, General Ulysses S. Grant and his troops are aiming to regulator the great Mississippi River. Love, harmony and refuge is a universal necessity thread in this read, and author, Beverly Stowe McClure has outdone herself in bringing the passion of this message in this moving tale, where bravery and fortitude of fellow citizens, standing for what is honorable, no matter the consequences is of most importance. Hats off!

5 Star Review 
 I posted a blog review of a wonderful children's fantasy chapter book entitled The Warble, written by local Seattle author Victoria Simcox. Since then my daughters and I have anxiously awaited the arrival of The Warble's sequel, The Shard. I am happy to announce that the wait is finally over... and it was well worth it!

Being a fan of all things concerning faerie and otherworldly realms, I was pulled into the story of The Shard instantly. What I really love is how the author combines realistic teen issues with fairy tale fantasy. For example, the book's heroine Kristina who is from our world, experiences her first budding romance with a handsome teenage Prince from a fantasy world, all the while dealing with the very real insecurities young teen girls are feeling.

I was so taken with The Shard that I read it almost constantly until I was finished! The author has a delightful writing style that is engaging for all ages, yet not to difficult for children to understand. I truly look forward to the sequel to the Shard - the cliff hanger at the end is intense!

I highly recommend The Shard for all lovers of fantasy chapter books, which I feel that tween and teen girls will especially enjoy and relate to.

Robyn has since been selling original screenplays and TV pilots to major film companies and networks. She is the daughter of Canadian Nobel laureate Robert A. Mundell, and is married to actor-playwright Raymond J. Barry. Together, they have four children.

French-Born Stephan Lacast likes to think of himself as a geek, which depending on your dictionary means either “knowledgeable about computers”, or “boring social misfit.” At the age of twelve his idea of fun was building computers and programming, and by fifteen he was a contributor to a computer magazine. A graduate of Paris-Dauphine University, he holds a Bachelor in Economics, a Master in Business Administration, and a Master of Advanced Studies in Information Systems.
After teaching at Dauphine University, Stephan went on to work as a consultant and engineer for one of the top ten Information Technology services companies in Europe, before deciding to leave Paris and move to the United States.
