Well, I’m practically Mancunian myself and I’m proud of my city. It is beautiful. I talk about a few of its landmarks in One Night in Manchester but I couldn’t fit all the beauty in one novella. When you visit be sure to look up, some of the frontages especially around Piccadilly are breathtaking.
The people are sound. That’s brilliant to anyone not up on their Manc lingo. Caring, fun loving and often up for a chat. People from the north west of England make amazing lovers too you know… No, I have no stats but take it from me, I’m born and bred in the north west

Mid Week Tease: “Yes, Andrew is a top notch vet.” #MWTease

Apparently, though, even the Yorkshire Dales had its fair share of prissy, precocious types who thought they were the centre of the universe.
The prissy, precocious person in question replied, “Hmm… well I suppose Andrew wouldn’t have you working with him if you weren’t competent. A wonderful man, Andrew. Wonderful vet, too. My horses just love him, even when he has to poke around with their unmentionables.”
Yanking the phone away from his face just in time to stop himself spluttering with laughter into the mouthpiece, Brett clapped his free hand over his mouth. Taking a moment to compose himself, he cleared his throat before replying, “Yes, Andrew is a top notch vet. I’m not surprised your horses like him. In his absence, however, I’d be more than happy to come out. Can you tell me what the problem is, please?”
“Of course. One of my mares has thrush.”
Brett frowned. From her tone and lack of urgency, he’d already guessed that the situation wasn’t dire—but thrush? Someone in her position should be able to deal with that type of minor issue with her eyes closed and her hands tied behind her back. Spotted and treated quickly, the condition wouldn’t affect the animal too much and would have no lasting effects. And Samantha had already diagnosed the problem, so she clearly knew what she was talking about—or had someone working for her that did.

Elizabeth Black Introduces Her New Book, No Restraint (@ElizabethABlack)
The idea for No Restraint had been in my head for a number of years. The novel is about a young woman named Alex Craig in search of her dream job, and she finds it in the company called Babes. Not only does she find the perfect job, she meets a man who turns her life upside-down but in a good way. That man, Jackson Beale, introduces her to the decadence in life – something she’s already familiar with but she needs to find a partner who appreciates la Dolce Vita as much as she does. And does he ever!
The company Babes is based on those Dot Coms from the 1990s before most of them crashed and burned. The Dot Coms focused on fun. Many of these companies held gourmet food parties. They had the latest computer games, pool tables, ping pong, and the latest movies available to watch on state-of-the-art entertainment centers. Sex in the conference room was not only a rumor. Babes is also based on an American clothing company, American Apparel. The sexually charged ads produced by the company as well as the sexually charged atmosphere were very controversial. The CEO and founder, Dov Charney, had been investigated for sexual harassment. The company hired staff based on culture and fashion, not only on resume. AA had been accused of focusing on surface qualities in hiring staff. While Charney had been accused of masturbating on the premises and having sex with his employees – as well as the sexual harassment charges – nothing of the kind happens at Babes without consent from all involved. If American Apparel were on the up-and-up, it would be Babes.
In creating Babes, I devised the dream job I would have loved to have had when I was in my 20s and 30s. Work was important but pleasure was equally important. Jackson takes Alex down a road of decadence she has craved, but no one before had the quality of personality to take her there. Babes is all about living life to the fullest, and enjoying every moment we have on earth. Life is a feast to be celebrated daily, not only on certain holidays or bellwether anniversaries. We have only one life. Live it to full advantage.
