Weirdest Places

So, as a newly published author who has no publicist at her disposal, viral word of mouth (this is what a friend, who IS a book publicist, tells me is key to my success) is, erm, the key to my success.

I have a mouth and although I don't want to think of it in terms of "viral", nevertheless, as the creator of this work, I must use that mouth to let people know about it.

Which is what I do, a lot.

So much so, I forget how much I've been blabbing about it. In fact, yesterday, when I had a meeting with the web designer for our organisation (someone I haven't seen in person in some time), and he asked, "How's the book going?" I was taken aback because I forgot I told him. Then I was happy. Then he said, "So far, I like it."

This, for some bizarre reason, freaked me OUT! I said, "You bought it?" He replied he did (as he would have to do to be reading it, of course).

All I could think of was my characters, Indy and Lee, doing the business on the kitchen counter and hoping he hadn't got to that part yet. Then all I could think was that my face felt really, really hot. Then I got happy again because he was actually reading it, said he liked it and that's the best feeling in the world (or, at least, the best feeling I've had so far).

This happens to me, occassionally (not as often as I'd like but I hope good things are to come). I'll get a text from someone I haven't heard from in ages telling me they love Lee (Nightingale, my hero, who is very lovable in a hot, bossy, alpha male kind of way). Or I'll get a note on FaceBook from someone I don't know saying that my brother, friend, acquaintaince told them about the book and they're loving it. Now, I'm not tooting my own horn (well, I am, but I ain't lying).

I can't describe what a rush this is. All that time, in front of my laptop, creating this world and these characters I love, the thrill to watch my little butterfly unfurl its wings is indescribable.

Fingers crossed folks think those wings are fascinating and my butterfly gains the strength to flit happily away...
