It’s Here! Not Alone: A Rock Star Yaoi, MM Romance!

So, a little bit about this book that you won’t find in the blurb. I came up with the idea for this novel while working from home during COVID. When I looked around my home office, the other side held several bass guitars, amps, cables, CDs and covers behind frames and the life my current partner was putting on hold during the pandemic – basically some of his sanity, his gigs. I decided from there to write a story about a rising rock star that depicted just how hard these guys really work, how talented they are and some of the things they sometimes give up for their dream.
Since I was sitting here at home, I also decided that this story would take place in a beach town where I called home back in the early 1990’s – Pacifica, California. It’s a magical place with a lot of mysterious fog in the summer and great surfing if you know which beach to go to, along with interesting hiking trails (WWII bunkers).
Now for Micah…I don’t honestly know where he came from, except that I wanted him to capture Ash’s heart even with all the hurt or maybe because of all the hurt he was going through. Ash in my mind had the drive and the know how to help him heal and in the process, gain the love he’d been missing in his life (sorry Wells, LOL). So, there you go.

As he set the board down, he glanced at his neighbor and flipped his blond hair up over one side of his head, the long ends splashing against the top of the wetsuit.
The neighbor hugged his knees tight with his head lowered.
“Hey, you sleeping?” He bent over the backpack, his hair dripping into dry sand.
The neighbor lifted his head.
A gust of wind blew over them, so strong it drove Ash forward.
The brim of the neighbor’s baseball hat fluttered and flew off, throwing the hood off with it, making his long, black bangs swirl up around his head. His gaze caught on Ash, the large, brown eyes, and thick lashes under straight brows, vulnerable, but intense. He lifted his face, every bit as perfectly laid out as if it were a doll, the cheeks holding a slight flush over porcelain skin.
Gorgeous. Ash whispered, “Holy shit.” He gawked, unable to move, his breath caught in his throat, his heart pounding.
The neighbor jerked around in the sand.
Ash blinked hard and scrambled for the hat. As he snatched it in his fingers, the perfect doll appeared in his vision again, this time gazing at him up close, too close. He plopped his butt in the sand, leaning on one hand, gaping at the vision in front of him.
The perfect doll sat next to Ash, lips parted, his dark, expressive eyes wide. “Uh, thank you.”
“Wh-what’s your name?” He stared at the doll, unable to look away, his heart thumping in his ears. Jesus, he needed to get a grip on himself.
“Micah.” His neighbor held out his hand.
He stared at Micah’s hand and placed his own inside it. He squeezed.
“Um, my hat.” Micah ripped his hand free. “Please.” He shimmied away from Ash. “Can you give it to me?” He dropped his head forward, letting the dark bangs cover his expressive eyes.
“Oh, yeah, sure.” What an idiot. As he flinched, he handed the hat to Micah, his other hand still tingling from Micah’s touch. He gulped hard and looked around him, fighting to find his voice, to calm the pounding in his chest. “Um…”
“You don’t want to be friends with me.” Micah placed the hat over his head and brought the hood up to cover it, then twisted around to face the surf.
“Wh-why wouldn’t I?” Did he hear that right? He stared at the back of Micah’s head.
“You just don’t.” Micah said, his voice unsteady, as if holding back tears.
And so, the rudeness was back. “Then why the fuck are you out here and not back at the beach in front of our apartments? You’re the one that told me to come here.” What the hell is wrong with this guy? He scowled at the back of Micah’s black, hooded sweatshirt.
“If you think I came here to watch your sorry ass surf, you’re mistaken,” Micah said, his voice wavering.
“Fine.” He didn’t need this shit from him. If Micah wanted to be like that, then fuck him. With a growl, he stood up, stomped back to his board and backpack, seized them up and trudged to his Jeep.

Leaving him alone was not an option.
Ash Oakley is on the verge of having it all. The alternative rock band he formed with his best friend (with benefits), just came off a major tour, opening in stadiums for rock legends across the globe. The only thing missing, is his brother who died of a drug overdose three years ago. Ash decides to take a much-needed break from the hectic schedule, fast hook-ups, and endless partying of the road to rent a small apartment on the beach in the bay area of California and learn to surf before settling in to record the next album in a studio in San Francisco, used by some of his favorite 1960’s rock stars. What he didn’t expect, is to become captivated by a neighbor so gorgeous and so broken, he can’t leave him alone.
Micah Knowles left his friends, his family, and his high-tech job to sit on the beach, day after day, struggling to heal himself from a devastating event he can’t even speak of out loud. He doesn’t deserve friendship and certainly doesn’t deserve love, not after what he did. When his world collides with Ash’s, he’s forced to either face his demons and let Ash in, along with Ash’s very different world, or succumb to the loneliness and pain he faces every day. Ash is not one to give up easily…

If you do Yaoi or MM Romance, do you do Boys Love Dramas?

So, maybe you like Yaoi manga and anime and maybe you like MM Romance books. If so, you really need to check out Asian Boys Love Dramas. No really, I’m not kidding. There are a ton of these series coming out of places like Thailand, Taiwan, Korea, Japan and even China. And they’re good. Really good. Like, you can handle the subtitles good.
You can find many of these loaded up on YouTube and some even on Netflix (Gameboys – very sweet, or SOTUS – slow, slow burn, The Untamed – just awesome). There are also a lot of streaming apps available, namely, VIKI, LineTV and Tencent Video where free content is available or you can get a subscription.
Anyhow, back to the main point here. If you’re interested, then what to watch? My favorite couple (known as a “ship”) are those two guys above there, Max and Tul. They star in Manner of Death and the Together with Me Series (there are two) and their series have lots of man-on-man action, if you catch my drift, and feels. Some of my other notable favorites are:
HIStory 4: Close to YouManner of Death (of course)Together with Me (of course)We Best Love2Gether the SeriesTharnTypeThere are so many more, but I wanted to list out some that might get you all started. There’s a great list here: My Drama List
But, don’t believe me. Just watch this clip from HIStory 4: Close to You.

Luke Anderson was in love once. It didn’t end well. In fact, it ended terribly when he discovered his boyfriend indulging in a quick hook-up on New Year’s Eve. Since then, he’s gotten affection from trivial gay bar hook-ups with no strings attached. It’s safe. It’s easy. It’s fun. Now graduated from Arizona State University and beginning a new job in a Tempe, Arizona, high-tech company, he feels like his life is starting over.
Jax Meyer is not completely happy with his current relationship. After attending a class with Luke in the fall of their senior year, he now finds himself attending the new college grad bootcamp class at the same high-tech company as Luke. He’s been given a second chance. It’s time to take charge and do what he didn’t have the guts to do at college.
Jax has Luke’s full attention from the moment they see each other in the lobby on their first day at work. Luke finds Jax incredibly hot, after all. When Jax sits next to Luke in class and dominates his time with flirtatious comments and suggestive touching, Luke believes Jax is interested in more than a friendly relationship. Anybody Else Watching Thai BL Drama?
I’ve been quarantining in my home, including working from home for almost a year now (since March). After going through every gay love story on Netflix, I found this interesting saga called, “The Untamed”. Wow, did it open my eyes to Asian boys love stories (BL). I’d watched BL in anime form before, but this is way better, believe me. I’m also used to sub-titles, which helps.
Anyhow, back to the Thai BL dramas. There are hundreds of these. They range anywhere from sweet high school romances to murder mystery romance with some really hot men thrown in.
Some of my favorites are (in no particular order)
1. TharnType
2. 2Gether
3. Manner of Death
Finding these to watch can take a bit of sleuthing, but most can be found on YouTube. Otherwise, there are apps that show them: LineTV, Tencent Video or Viki by Rukuten.
Let me know if you watch any of them and what you thought.
Oh, I do have some books coming out, so stay tuned:)

I Love Soccer for the Hot Men…and Action
My boyfriend loves soccer. And since I love sports in general, I’ve been watching the World Cup with him this year. I knew soccer players were hot, I mean, who hasn’t drooled over pictures of David Beckham? But wow, it seems there is a never-ending line up of man candy in the World Cup. For ball players (pun intended), these guys aren’t your typical athletes. No, they have everything a lover of Yaoi and M/M Romance looks for in hotness, don’t they? From the long hair and lean bodies to the strong jawlines and ripped abs we all like to see on our book covers. These guys are beautiful. Which of course, gives me an idea for a story. I wonder how many of those hot guys are gay? Oh my…the locker room…the shower…I need to stop right there, LOL.
I am loving the actual game as well, don’t get me wrong. The nail-biting shoot outs going on right now in the next round are just about killing me. I can’t seem to leave my couch, not even to write or draw! I just wish the teams I’m cheering for would quite losing:( Like Mexico today or Italy. Damn. At least I still have the US team for now. Oh well, no matter who wins, we still have man candy to watch:)
