Winners of Goodreads Free Giveaway and More

2012 Halloween Decorations

“Let’s switch places for a while…”

I (Christopher) will try to keep this short.  We have five lucky winners to announce from our latest Goodreads Free Giveaway, and they are:

Alexander Porter – North Yorkshire, UK
Becky Cottrell – Philadelphia, PA
Gloria Snyder – Pittsburgh, PA
Susan Knopp – Columbus, OH
Michael Haskins – Calgary, Alberta

Congratulations to our winners!

We have also extended our free eBook giveaway on Goodreads.

We have several appearances coming up, including the Salado Scottish Festival… see our events page for more information.

Paranormal Haven has posted Halloween-related character interviews of personages from our series; there is also a free giveaway! In November, they will be posting an interview with us.

No Wasted Link will be interviewing me (Christopher) coming up December 19, while they will be featuring Heather in a writing space post on November 16.

That is all for now.  Thanks for your continued support!

On Our Way to Sherwood Forest

Come on out to Sherwood Forest Celtic Music Festival this weekend!

Sherwood Forest Celtic Music Festival

We have had lots of stuff going on these last few and subsequent weeks, which is why I (Christoper) haven’t blogging. Here are some highlights…

New 2013 appearances, Goodreads free giveaway ends soon, Morrigan’s Brood free eBook offer through Goodreads ends soon, I we finished rewriting It’s in the Cards, a novella… now to get it proofread, we have a new ad going up on Paranormal Haven soon, character interviews are coming up on Paranormal haven, other interviews later this year, special new stuff will come out via Robert Stikmanz’s Confabule, we delayed our free giveaway from Space City Con to include Sherwood Forest and HPPD participants, I made a new spear for a bookless reading I will be performing at Sherwood Forest, and that’s about all I can think of right now… Just the gems.

Thanks everyone for your continued support!

2013 Event Calendar Published and Other News

New button sample for TriscellePublishing.com

Where to Start? 2012 Appearances

I (Christopher) have been running ragged trying to book events for next year, of course as some of you in the biz know, some places won’t start accepting applications (or send you invitations) until 3 to 3 months out. However, one venue is way on the ball… Comicpalooza, and they are in late May… yet at this moment, vendor applications are available on-line. Wow… So, to finish off this year’s appearances, we have the Magick Cauldron this weekend, followed by Sherwood Forest Celtic Music Festival and HPPD in September and the Salado Scottish Festival in November. Heather and I are both working to add some smaller venues somewhere in that time-frame, so keep checking your calendar. Some of you recall that we had previously listed the Austin Celtic Festival, but because of their small size and that most of their prior years’ vendors came back, they had no room for us; maybe next year. For dates and links, visit our events page on our website.

2013 Appearances

Spring is looking to be a very busy season for us with a few back-to-back weekends of appearances. Since ConJour, which we have attended in prior years, is on hiatus for 2013, first off will be the Chilli cook-off to benefit the Houston St. Patrick’s Day Parade (date unknown). March 1st through 3rd, the first weekend in March 2013, is the traditional time for North Texas Irish Festival, while late March is typically when AggieCon is held. However, after looking at the AggieCon44 website, it seems that it too is scheduled for March 1st through 3rd 2013. Since Heather and I come as a set, and there are not clones of us, we can only go to one event or the other. For our friends who usually see us at AggieCon, this means we will regretfully not be seeing you there, since we have decided instead to go to North Texas Irish Festival, which we had attended this year, a few weeks before AggieCon. As some of you know from talking to us, Celtic / Irish / Scottish festivals are more our niche and yield higher sales than fantasy cons. Well, we have to go where we feel we can make the most sales. Hopefully in 2014 (unless the 2013 date for AggieCon magically changes), AggieCon and NTIF will be on different weekends.

So, after NTIF comes the San Antonio Highland Games and Scottish Festival (Heather and I can’t want to meet up with our friend Jane) starting our April/May madness, Houston Indie Book Fest the weekend after, and then after a weekend breather, it looks like we will have a Houston Scottish Festival and Highland Games after a two year hiatus. The next weekend is the Texas Scottish Festival and Highland Games (we hope), followed three weeks later by Comicpalooza. Ack!!! After all of that, I will need to get my kilt dry cleaned… maybe before that.

So visit our events page and look up these events.

Free Giveaway Drawing

We collected tickets at Space City Con for our usual event-related free giveaway, and we will also collect tickets from the Magick Cauldron at our book signing this Saturday. If you cannot attend one of those events and wish to win one of our novels, please send me an email to be entered into our free giveaway. The drawing will be held Monday the 20th, when I have jury duty… US District Court in Houston, Texas.

Space City Con

Wow! Heather and I had loads of fun at Space City Con last weekend! We met lots of nice folks, many who stopped by our booth. Heather and our friends Ji Ji and Trinette even snatched a few pictures of costumed patrons reading our books / chapter books. Wow! When are we going to post them? One high point for my day was meeting R.A. Salvatore. He, more than any other author, influenced my writing and storytelling style. Some reviewers and fans have even compared Heather’s and my works to his… what a compliment. I will probably cover our encounter at the signing table in more detail in another post, but while the meeting was a high point for me, he seemed out of it, since his mother has been having medical issues; he had even announced that he would be cancelling his visit due to a family emergency, but then the emergency passed and he reaffirmed his visit. Still, his heart seemed to be in Massachusetts.

Well, we came home with lots of cool art, great comic books, and new friends. We had lots of fun, and we look forward to coming back next year… and it was great not to have to pay for parking.

Goodreads Free Giveaway

Don’t forget, we are giving away five signed copies each of not one book, but two… Crone of War: Morrigan’s Brood Book II and Madness & Reckoning: Stories of the Morrigan’s Brood Series. Also, Morrigan’s Brood (book 1) is available for free download, that opportunity ends when the free giveaway ends… October 22… just in time for Halloween.. Also remember that Morrigan’s Brood (book 1) available for free download from Goodreads. Look below for more details:

Events and Stuff

Lots of stuff coming up on the next few months, but nothing so impending as Space City Con! That’s right… *THIS* weekend is Space City Con, taking place in the Westin Galleria in Houston, Texas. Visit Space City Con for more information on the event. Heather and I will be signing books there, so bring yours if you’ve got ‘em, but if you don’t, that’s alright… we can sell you some of ours. Come out and enjoy the fun! Nichelle Nichols, R.A. Salvatore, and Breandán Ó Ciarraí, among many other talented actors, celebrities, artists, writers, and others will be there. Oh yeah… and us.

The Saturday after that… next weekend, we will be at the Magick Cauldron for another book-signing. If you don’t like big crowds, but you still would like to see us in Houston, this would be a good venue for you. Plus, you won’t have to buy a ticket to get in (like you would with Space City Con). Visit our Events page for more book signing events we will be attending this year and next.

Free Stuff

OK… I (Christopher) am crazy… certifiable. Guess what I did… I made the ePub version of Morrigan’s Brood: Morrigan’s Brood Book I free on Goodreads. What???!!!??? Morrigan’s Brood (book 1) ePub free on Goodreads? Am I nuts? (Um… yes, I just established that fact… reinforced since I am talking to myself… Oh yeah.) Um… Yes! But how long will it be free?

OK… not only is Morrigan’s Brood (book 1) available for free download from Goodreads, but we are also giving away five signed copies each of not one book, but two… Crone of War: Morrigan’s Brood Book II and Madness & Reckoning: Stories of the Morrigan’s Brood Series. In answer to the earlier question as to how long book 1 ePub will be available for free download, that opportunity ends when the free giveaway ends… October 22… just in time for Halloween. Morrigan's Brood

Reblogged from Freakshow Minus Tent:

Morrigan’s Brood by Heather Poinsett Dunbar
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I recieved this book through the goodreads giveaway, my first one actually. Im going to keep my review short so i dont give away any spoilers. My first thought, with all of the introductions to the maps, characters, gods and goddesses, blood lines it reminded me of the depth a Tolkien novel would have.

Alecia Ludwick-Jones wrote a wonderful review of Morrigan's Brood: Morrigan's Brood Book I after winning a free giveaway from Goodreads. Please check out her blog "Freakshow Minus Tent" for the review of Morrigan's Brood and other cool stuff!

Goodreads Free Giveaway Winners and Upcoming Events

Crone of War: Morrigan’s Brood Book II (rel. 2) is now on Kindle!

What a roller-coaster ride over the last few weeks. I (Christopher) usually don’t interject much of my personal life on this blog… I leave that to Facebook or just calling folks on the phone… but things have been a maelstrom around here of late. June 15, I was laid off from a contract job I had been working at for over 10 months; it was one of those out-of-the-blue, didn’t see it coming kind of layoffs. In my time off (well, before I was laid-off, but I never had time), I made it my mission to finish moving what was once known as Morrigan’s Brood: Crone of War from Lulu over to Lightning Source, where it would reside with a new ISBN and a revised name… Crone of War: Morrigan’s Brood Book II. As part of that move, I planned to massage the text a bit, giving it a good polish. Heather and I released a revision of the print book before I could finish the complete revision in order to restock books. Unfortunately, due to my work schedule and other things while I was working on my previous contract, I had little time to devote to the massaging of book 2.

So… I got laid off… been through it before, and will likely go through it several more times in my career… With all of that free time, next to searching for a job, I managed to find time to plug away at the reading and massaging. Then, about a week and a half after I was laid off, I received a job offer for another contract, and I would start July 16, a month after I was laid off. Since I didn’t have to look for a job anymore, I dedicated more time to massaging the text, in addition to booking events and whatnot. Well, I still hadn’t finished by the time I started my new job, so I took Heather’s laptop to work with me so I could read and massage during lunch. Well, last weekend, I finished, and so I submitted the text to the printer, and now the revised version is for sale.

Now, this past weekend, I took it upon myself to convert book 2 into both Kindle and Nook formats, but before I could do that, Heather had pointed out some issues on book 1 with the ellipse graphics (those ravens) on the Kindle. I spent about 12 hours trying different approaches, though finally I just consolidated the graphics… the ravens are still large, but they only take up one line now. So, I fixed book 1 Kindle, and then I converted book 2 print into both Kindle and Nook versions. As the graphic indicates, the revised version of Crone of War is now on sale for $1.99. (The Nook version is also $1.99).

I will next update the Kindle and Nook versions of Madness & Reckoning, which I revised prior to publishing the print version of it. My next big project will be performing a edit of the draft of “It’s in the Cards”, part of the librarian anthology that Heather, myself, and a few other authors are putting together. Once done with that, I will be working with various artists and designers to begin laying out the book and creating the artwork.

In the meantime, I have Curse of Venus: Morrigan’s Brood Book IV to work on. You may have noticed that we have pushed back the publishing date to June. While we may have the book itself finished by December, the original publication timeframe, that date would not allow us to properly market the book prior to its release. My goal is to be ready to release ARCs and / or galleys by December and see where that goes.

Well, there is more news, and here it is:

Goodreads Free Giveaway Winners

The free giveaway with Goodreads ended July 19, but this is the first time I have had a chance to make a blog entry, so I will announce the winners (even though all of them should have their books by now). The winners were:

Sabrina Glud of Roskilde, Denmark
Donna Parker of London, Ontario (Canada)
Sarah Dixon of Dorset, Great Britain
Alecia Jones of Strasburg, VA (USA)
Tiffany Olson of Mandan, ND (USA)

Congratulations to all of our winners!

Since we just released the revised Crone of War, we may be able to host another free giveaway for book 2 (there are limitations that the giveaway must be within 6 months of the release of a book), but we will certainly announce it should we be able to have another free giveaway via Goodreads.

Space City Con, the Magick Cauldron, and Other Events

Heather and I have several events coming up, such as those events I just mentioned. Check out our Events page for more information.

Closing thoughts

Well, I am being called to domestic chores.

Thanks to our family, our friends, and our fans for all of your support!

New Website Content, Events, and Free Giveaway

Button example for Triscelle Publishing.com
Test Button for Triscelle Publishing.com

New button sample for TriscellePublishing.com
Test button for Triscellepublishing.com

I (Christopher) have been giving the http://www.triscellepublishing.com website a bit of a content upgrade, in addition adding buttons for certain links, instead of text-based hyperlinks. I will go into more depth as to what website changes I have been making, I will show you where you can find out where we will be for our next book signings, and I will remind everyone of the free giveaway of our book of your choice through Goodreads. Click below for more:

Website Content Improvements

For the last two years or so, I have been producing print books, eBooks, and various marketing materials via Adobe inDesign CS5.5 through a subscription program. Recently, however, Adobe launched their Creative Cloud service, which allows me to install any and all Adobe products I want (be it inDesign, FireWorks, Dreamweaver, PhotoShop, Acrobat, Flash, Illustrator… the entire CS6 line, all for one monthly subscription fee. Anyway, in an attempt to make this seem less like an advertisement, I soon found myself with more tools than I knew what to do with.

Our website had not been updated in some time… partly because I couldn’t decide what all of the changes were that needed to be made. Khanada Taylor, Heather’s and my close friend as well as cover artist, interior artist, and web designer created a beautiful site for us, complete with a consistent theme that represented the Roman / Celtic duality reflected in the Morrigan’s Brood Series, as well as a solid structure. Unfortunately, time, work, busyness, laziness (on my part), and a lack of proper tools (also on my part) happened, and so the website went without update for a few years. Well, since I got my new tools, I have been revving for a chance to use them, and so I began to update the site a little over a week ago.

Site Structure and Content Improvements

The original site structure included:

The Books (synopses with links to a few websites that contained supplemental information)
Characters (character bios)
Blood-Drinker Lines
About (about the authors)
Galleries (fan art)
Links (affiliate sites and bibliographic information)
Reviews (our four original book reviews)
Order & Contact (how to order book 1 and how to email us)

I have recently changed the titles of the sites after condensing some of the content where it seemed appropriate, thus enabling me to re-purpose some of the site pages.  I also modified the header file and the Roman key pattern file in the footer to reflect this new structure.  Here are the new sections, complete with links and a summary of contents / changes:

Main site [not a tab, but it is the first page most visit] – Updated the content and moved the poem to the left in order to make greater use of space.
The Books – Added all of our books, included book review links and buy pages, and employed temporary buttons (more on that later).
Characters – Copied the Character Guide and Pronunciation Guide from Morrigan’s Brood: Morrigan’s Brood Book I.  In order to reduce the chance of spoilers, for now I will only include the Character Guide content from book 1, as that content is different in each book to reflect changes in the character since the last book of the series.
Mythology – I combined the Gods and Goddesses of the Series content with the Lines of Blood-Drinkers content… both of which I copied from book 1.
About – I included separate profile pictures for Heather and I, button links to our email and our profiles on some social media sites, updated bios, and links to interviews we have participated in.  This is also structured so we could add other authors if the need arises.
Galleries – I kept the fan art, which Khanada Taylor contributed, and I welcome others to do so as well.  However, I decided to add the cover art for books 1, 2, and 3, the maps from books 1 & 2, Madness & Reckoning, and book 3, and the map guides from those books as well.  I may also add photos from events we have attended, but that content might be better situated elsewhere…
Links – I have made no changes here as of yet, though I might pretty it up a bit with buttons at a later date.
Reviews – For now, I have kept this page intact, but since these reviews can already be found on Amazon, Goodreads, and other places, I am strongly thinking of re-purposing this page, though for what purpose I know not.  This could be where I include pictures from events we have attended, if I don’t stick them in the Galleries page.  However, that is but one idea…
Events – I was surprised that we had not thought of adding events to the original site design.  Once I had eliminated the out-dated buy link from this page, I struggled for a new purpose.  Then I recalled that the only forum I have been using for posting events was this blog.  Now, site visitors can look at where we are going to be and where we have been.  I still need to add where we have been, but I do have all of the 2012 events listed prominently.

Buttons

I think my greatest contribution to this site will be the use of buttons in replace of many of the hyperlinks within tables that used to dominate these pages. I felt buttons would be a way to highlight more of Khanada’s artwork and increase the color range of the site’s pages. The buttons you see now on the site’s pages are temporary; I threw these together in Microsoft PowerPoint and saved them as .png graphics files. I am creating the new buttons in Adobe FireWorks CS6, one of the new toys I mentioned. I know what I want the buttons to look like, but I need to find some way to pass the button text from the website’s code to the button’s code, so I don’t have to have a separate graphics file for each neutral and hovered state. The graphics at the top are examples of the new buttons featuring Khanada Taylor’s art. I think you will like the new buttons much better than the temporary ones out there now.

So, that is it for the website updates, thus far. One of these days, I hope to be able to tell you that I have completed my updates, but I have other work to do as well. There is never any rest for the wicked or the weary, and I am both.

Free Giveaway Winners, Events, and other News

Author Christopher Dunbar in a kiltAh… time to breathe. We have had so much going on in the last few months that I (Christopher) have fallen behind on actual work… writing, and whatnot. Well, it looks like we are between events, so I should be able to catch a bit of a break. Today, I will belatedly be releasing the winners of the free giveaway we held for Comicpalooza (at the end of May), and I will be reminding everyone of our other free giveaway through Goodreads.  Also, here is a picture of me in a kilt.  This is the ancient hunting MacIntyre tartan worn as a great kilt [also called Breacan an Fhéilidh (belted plaid) or Féileadh Mòr (great plaid)].  The doublet is a Pendragon, the feather is a pheasant tail feather, the I made the sporran.  You can often find me kilt clad at these events, though the last few indoor events I was bereft of a kilt.  I shall have to make up for it in the future.

We have some exciting prospects coming up towards the second half of this year, though as in previous years, there seems to be fewer events we attend in Q3 and Q4 than we attend in Q1 and Q2. Still, plenty of events for you to come out and see us or listen to us read aloud. Let’s see… there is Space City Con, the Salado Scottish Festival and Highland Games, and even the Sherwood Forest Celtic Music Festival, among others. That’s another observation of our events… most of the events in Q3 and Q4 are outdoor venues, whereas most events we attended in Q1 and Q2 were indoor events. Strange.

Comicpalooza Free Giveaway Winners

Our winners for this free giveaway were:

Kelly Warren
Ben Snyder

We will likely have other free giveaways associated with some of our larger venues coming up, so stay tuned to our Facebook page or our blog for more information.

As I mentioned before, we have a number of appearances coming up. This list represents confirmed events (those we have already booked), pending events (those we are scheduling), and possible events (those events we would like to attend but are unable yet to set things up). Triscelle Publishing Website Improvements

As some of you may have noticed, I am making a few changes to the website. So far, I have updated the main page, our books page, and the about the authors page, although I am still troubleshooting some lingering issues with the author page (with my updates… not with the original content). I am also looking into some eCommerce options so our readers can purchase print and eBooks directly through our website.

Comicpalooza and Two Free Giveaways

Lots of stuff going on (when is there not? They are called “weekdays”), so I thought I would take a break from the madness that is the night before Comicpalooza setup (for us artists / authors / dealers) to catch my breath and catch all of you up on the goings on. So, as you have no doubt gathered, we have Comicpalooza going on… more on that later. Also, we not only have one, but two, free giveaways! More on that later as well. We have also released an updated Kindle version of Morrigan’s Brood: Morrigan’s Brood Book I, which coincides with the re-release of the print book through Triscelle Publishing’s new printer and distributor, Lightning Source. Anyway, to the news:

Comicpalooza

We had so much fun at Comicpalooza last year that they permitted us to come back this year, and boy are those folks worn out already. They have been working tooth and nail to get things all set up for thus huge event. HUGE! It will be at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The times and other details can be found here. We will have our tent frame (see picture above) set up for lighting… hey, I like cool lights. You like cool lights? Come by and be mesmerized. Aside from sitting at our booth, which will be in the Artist Alley area, TT-300 and TT-302 (not near the place where you go t.t., but rather near where you go vroom-vroom… just look at the program guide when you get there so this will make sense), Heather and I will be performing a reading from Morrigan’s Brood, in addition to hosting a panel about starting a publishing and sitting on some other writing panels. Now, we actually don’t have a copy of the program guide yet, so there is a chance our events did not get scheduled, but cross your fingers that we will be doing our stuff for whomever wants to show up. Please, check out the program and come visit us.

In preparation for the presentation, I have uploaded a revised version of our presentation about how to start a publishing company. You can find it to the right in our Box.net folder. Please download a copy… it’s free! If I can remember tonight or tomorrow, I will print us off some copies.

Free Giveaways

Our first free giveaway is in honor of Comicpalooza. As is typical, we will start accepting drawings on the Friday of the event, in this case the 25th, and we will hold open the free giveaway for a little over a week, so we will hold the drawing Monday, June 4, just three days after the start of the 2012 Atlantic Basin Hurricane Season… whoopeee! Sorry… disasters are my *other* profession. So, to enter, either fill out a ticket at our booth and drop it in the box, send me a message on Facebook, or send me a message at chris_dunbar@triscellepublishing.com.

Our second free is from Goodreads. Here are the details:
