blue skies!
I don't care what my calendar says. It's spring. I can tell this because there is almost no snow left in my building's parking lot (there was quite a pile going). And the sky is blue (at least until tomorrow's rain comes). And I'm feeling less crazy. But also, because of the slew of wonderful spring book releases.
Specifically, I'm talking about Jandy Nelson's THE SKY IS EVERYWHERE, which came out yesterday, and which I read last year and fell in loooove with and over which I've already...

cover me
You never forget your first loves. They hold such a place in your heart and once you fall, you think you will never love again.
So, when my publisher told me that they were giving If I Stay a new cover in paperback, I was like, WTF? I loved the flower cover. Everyone loved that cover. (Okay, almost everyone. I'd read a few blog posts of readers who'd passed on the book because the cover told them nothing about the book. But to mind, that's the point, it implied everything, fantastically, I...

2010 nyc teen author festival!
Many of you dear readers are all over this, and thus already know about the upcoming Teen Author Festival. For those of you who don't, below is the full schedule. And because this is my blog, I will tell you right up front that I am participating in the following events:
A panel on Monday 3/15 in which I'll read a snippet of something from If I Stay that changed drastically from first to final draft.
The 5 boro-read on Thursday 3/18 in which I'll be reading on the Lower East Side Seward Park B...

if i stay tour!!!!!!!!!!
If I Stay has been out almost a year, and I'm finally going on tour.
What can I say? I have two kids. It takes me a while to get my act together. Okay, that's not actually it (though that is certainly true). The paperback is coming out April 6th, and wait till you see the new cover! It is AMAZING and completely DIFFERENT. I will unveil it here in the next few days, I promise.
But in the mean time, here is the tour schedule. I think a few more dates will be added in my hometowns—L.A, where I...

eve's fan garden chat
A little ditty, to sing to the tune of "Let it Snow."And yes, at times like this, I wish I were Maggie Stievater because then I'd record myself singing the thing and post that. But I'm not. She is her own fabulous self.
The weather outside is misery.
The Olympics are now history.
The Oscars are a week away.
So, as long as we've no place to be.
Come to Eve's, come to Eve's. Come to Eve's. (That's Eve's Fan Garden).
On Sunday night at nine.
I promise to be on time (eastern time)
I will do a live chat
An...

yes, virginia, there is a sequel
I've been a liar.
I have to get that out of the way first.
Because for months—no, years now—people have been asking me if there's a sequel to If I Stay and I have been saying various degrees of "I'm not sure," when in fact, even before the book ever came out, I'd written a sort of half version of a part two. But that version was mostly for me, because one night, a few weeks after I'd turned in the copy-edited version of If I Stay, I was lying in bed unable to sleep, thinking about (THERE ARE...

a little valentine's fiction
"What if neither one of us gets kissed tonight?" he asked her.
They were standing on the bannister outside her apartment building, and even though it was February, an early spring had the hydrangea blooming. The two of them were going over last-minute details, she for her date with B, the boy she'd been flirting with for the last few months, he for his date with K, the girl he'd been mildly obsessing over for since he moved to this college town.
"We'll get kissed. It's Valentine's Day," she...
consider this an automatic vacation response
No blogs next week. Or probably not unless something crazy exciting happens.
Anyhow, I'm taking a vacation from all things world-widey-webby, social networky, Twittery, Facebooky (wonder how many times Facebook will get a Facelift before I get back?)
This is where I'll be:
But before you get too jealous, bear in mind who I will be with:
Without husbandly assistance.
Sun and beach–yay! Relaxation and sleep and reading–even with grandparents present–probably not so much.
Still, counting the hours...

girl and boot: a love story
It well may be that we're a long way off from such an enlightened time where a boy can marry a boy, a girl can marry a girl, and a girl can marry a pair of boots.
But I think that time is coming. And when it does, I really plan to marry my LL Bean 8 inch brown shearling roll down boots. A boot so ugly, it's beautiful. So wrong, it's just right. A boot that had it not arrived (a mere five weeks after ordering it, these suckers are handcrafted and in high demand; no churning-em-out-in-China for ...
