Camy’s upcoming publishing schedule

After the craziness of the Kickstarter, I hope to put Lady Wynwood’s Spies, Volume 7: Spinster up on Amazon probably in the first week of March.

I am currently working on a Christian contemporary romantic suspense, Year of the Dog, because it’s due for the multi-author anthology I’m in that releases in May, Danger in the Shadows. I’ll probably post the chapters (including the annotated chapters) on my Patreon, but I won’t be able to give a free .epub copy to my paid subscribers since it’ll release in the anthology in May 2025. The chapters will be taken down in May, so be sure to read it while it’s still up on my Patreon.

I’ve been posting my Christian contemporary romantic suspense, Protection for Hire, but there’s a chance I might pause it in order to post Year of the Dog, because I am realizing I’m not very good at juggling two contemporary projects at the same time. If I do pause it, I’ll start up again after Bento and Betrayal is done, probably sometime in the summer. I intend to give my paid subscribers an ebook copy and the annotated version of the ebook when that’s done.

After I finish Year of the Dog, I’ll work on Lady Wynwood’s Spies, Volume 8: Traitor, and I’ll be posting the chapters and annotated chapters on Patreon as I write them. My Patreon and my Kickstarter will get the .epub, annotated ebook, and Special Edition paperback version as soon as it’s done, and it won’t go up on Amazon until later in 2025, probably around October or November.

After that, I’ll work on Bento and Betrayal, which releases in the Christian Suspense anthology Don’t Blink in October 2025. Like with Year of the Dog, I’ll post the chapters and annotated chapters on Patreon but will take them down in October and I will not be able to give an ebook copy, so be sure to read it before October.

I hope to finish Lady Wynwood’s Spies, Volume 9: Shelter before the end of the year.

After I finish posting Protection for Hire, I’ll post the sequel, A Dangerous Stage. Be on the lookout for a poll to decide the cover!

Lady Wynwood and the Senhora’s Bargain excerpt

 Here’s a snippet of the Lady Wynwood novella I’m posting on Patreon at the moment:

“If you will follow me?” the butler said and led the way up the staircase.​The first floor hallway was long and sumptuous, with paintings on the wall and small statues on spindly tables next to elegant Chinese faces. The sound of music was slightly louder, but still muffled, and Laura could hear no voices at all.​On the second floor, after traversing a narrower hallway with closed doors on either side, the butler knocked at a door at the end. A deep, smoky voice bade them enter.​The room was dim but for the roaring fireplace and a few well-placed but low-burning lamps. The furniture looked comfortable and was upholstered in shades of burgundy and hunter green, and although the light did not reach the heavy curtains, she assumed they were the same colors.​From the far corner approached a woman who had been standing behind the heavy wooden desk situated there. She was dressed in a dark burgundy silk gown, equally as fine as anything Laura had owned, with a black beaded shawl thrown over her shoulders. The small casual touch from the shawl somehow made her appear even grander despite her tiny frame. She was perhaps ten years older than Laura, although her black hair showed no streaks of gray, and her dark eyes were sharp and bore the weight of a woman twenty or thirty years older than that.​The woman nodded regally to Mr. Thompson. “You have brought her,” she said in a voice faintly accented in Spanish. “You may await downstairs.” The dark eyes flickered to Fred. “The manservant will wait with you.” It had not been a request.Fred pressed his lips together and looked at Laura. He was tall but slightly lanky, and yet the fierceness in his gaze indicated that he would even take on the massive butler if need be to protect his mistress.​But Laura nodded to him and then entered the room. However, she could not help tensing as the door shut behind her.

You can probably guess who she’s meeting, right?

Free short story: How Laura Met Aya

One of the perks of Tier 2 and higher in my Patreon is that they get a bonus short story twice a year. They voted to read about how Laura met the Senhora and so I worked on “Lady Wynwood and the Senhora’s Bargain” at the end of November and I’m just about finishing it up right now.

When outlining this story, because it was so intertwined with how Laura meets Aya, I ended up writing a short story about how they met, which became the prologue.

(And then the story of how Laura meets the Senhora exploded into a novella instead. I’m not sure exactly how. I just kept writing and writing and writing …)

Anyway, as a Christmas gift, I decided to give my patrons the prologue of “Lady Wynwood and the Senhora’s Bargain” because it’s a complete short story about how she met Aya, which I think some of you might like to read.

The real-life inspiration for the library from Lady Wynwood’s Spies, Volume 1: Archer
In chapter 8 of Lady Wynwood’s Spies, volume 1: Archer , there is a very important architectural anomaly in Mr. Farrimond’s home:

She came out along a wide, airy hallway that she recognized, since Miss Farrimond’s bedroom was only fifty yards to her right. To her left, the hallway continued for several yards before ending at a small window. Directly across from the stairway was a narrow passageway blocked by a pedestal and a truly ugly vase.

The first time Phoebe and the Misses Laytons had been at Miss Farrimond’s home for a garden party in the backyard, they had been given a tour of the house. Miss Layton had commented on the oddly-placed vase, and with a mischievous smile, Miss Farrimond had proceeded to set it aside and lead them down the narrow, L-shaped passage. It ended abruptly in a plain door, and she reached above the lintel for an iron key.

The door had opened above a vast library, two stories tall. A narrow walkway lined three walls of the library, edged by an iron railing, with bookshelves against the walls and a wrought-iron set of stairs that curled up from the floor.

“This used to be the nursery before my grandfather renovated the house,” Miss Farrimond said. “He removed the floor to expand the library upward, but was too miserly to order the work to remove the door and the passageway.”

I based this little L-shaped passageway ending in a nursery door on an actual nursery in a manor house I visited in England on vacation. Unfortunately, I don’t remember which manor house (it might have been Chatsworth, but don’t quote me on that).

But it had a narrow passage that led off from the main hallway, ending in a small door that opened into the nursery of the house.

The two-story library was based on a small library in Sudbury Hall, the manor house whose interior was used for the interior shots of Pemberley in the 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice.

The library was not in the mini-series, but here’s a photo of it that I took when I toured the house. Isn’t it neat? I’d love a library like that!
