Snow and Ice

Here are some more pictures from our February snow and ice storms.
Our first ice storm hit on the 21st of February. Weathermen predicted ice or snow accumulations of 4-7 inches.
We had 2-3 inches of sleet/ice.
The next storm hit on Monday, February 25. Weather reports had my hopes up for 7-10 inches of snow.
We ended up with 2-3 inches.
Still, it made for some pretty photos.
And schools in the area shut down, so we at least got a "snow day" out of it!
Luther wasn't sure what to think of his "first" snow. He sniffed the air and finally decided it could be lots of fun!
What about you? Did you get any snow last week?

She's active in her church as the Director of Women's Ministries, coordinates a yearly writer's retreat for published authors, and travels, as time permits, to research her books.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
As the lone female in a houseful of men, Merrill Krause dedicates her life to caring for her family and their business, as her dying mother asked. Besides, it suits her; she's never felt like she fits what most people expect in a girl--she'd rather work with her father's horses and assist with the ice harvest. And though she's been mostly content up to this point, a part of her wonders if there will ever be anyone who will notice her amid the bevy of brothers determined to protect her from any possible suitors.

When Rurik Jorgenson arrives in their small Minnesota town to join his uncle's carpentry business, he soon crosses paths with Merrill. But unlike other men, who are often frightened away by her older brothers, Rurik isn't intimidated by them or by Merrill's strength and lack of femininity. The attraction between them begins to build...until Rurik's former fiance shows up with wild claims that bring serious consequences to Rurik.

Can Rurik and Merrill learn to trust God--and each other--when scandal threatens their newfound love? If you would like to read the first chapter of Icecutter’s Daughter, go HERE.

Birthdays and Ice Storms

This past weekend, we celebrated our middle daughter's "22" birthday with cake and ice cream with the grandparents. It's always such joy to spend time with family.
We also had our first winter storm--an ice storm. Our daughter and son-in-law had about a foot of snow in Olathe. We had about 2-3 inches of ice.
We're expecting another winter storm to come in later today (as I write this on Monday). I'll post pictures from that next week--and hoping some of them will be accumulated snow pictures!
What about you? Are you expecting any snow or ice this week?

Taxes, Taxes

The past two weeks I have been hard at work on our income taxes. With two self-employed businesses in our family, it takes me awhile to go through all the receipts and paperwork. Our college student daughter has been prompting me to get them done so she can file her FAFSA. I'm looking forward to finishing them up and getting back to my writing.

Did you know that Americans have been filing income taxes for 100 years now? In 1913 the Sixteenth Amendment granted Congress the right to levy an income tax. When the Bureau of Internal Revenue printed its first 1040, the form was three pages with one page of instructions. We've come a long way since then, baby.

What about you? Do you try to finish your income taxes early or do you prefer to wait until the deadline to file?

When she enrolls young Thomas Bridgeport in golf lessons, Callie meets Wesley Townsend, who urges Callie to take lessons, as well. During their time at the golf course, Callie comes to care for Wesley--until she discovers hidden secrets about his past.

Then expensive jewels go missing from various homes on the island, and suspicion is aimed in Callie's direction. As the investigation continues, Callie wonders if she should escape it all by going to Africa. After the secrets he kept about his past, will Wesley ever be a man she can honor and trust for the rest of her life? Buy the book HERE.
