Khamptrul Rinpoche’s The Royal Seal of Mahamudra

Royal Seal Cover picture
Khamptrul Rinpoche’s The Royal Seal of Mahamudra, Volume One: A Guidebook for the Realization of Coemergence, translated by Gerardo Abboud (2015)

Tsoknyi Rinpoche has commented on this book: “The distinguishing feature of this commentary on Mahamudra by Khamtrul Ngawang Kunga Tenzin is the way it accurately covers the different experiences of practitioners. People’s minds are varied so their experiences can differ as well. The author advises what antidotes to apply, what adjustments to make, how to determine if an experience is valid or not, and gives instructions to prevent straying to a wrong path. The translator Gerardo Abboud is not only learned about Mahamudra but also has the experience of practice, both of which are special conditions for an adequate translation. It is my dearest hope that this text may be of great benefit and lead countless beings to the realization of Buddhahood.”

(This book will be available online at the Pundarika Store and Amazon. Purchasing it at the online Store helps support Rinpoche’s humanitarian work.)

Dreamlike Journey and Next Project!

Dreamlike Journey: a documentary film by Sofia Abboud
(see links below for free streaming and download!)

DreamlikeBetterIn October 2011, Tsoknyi Rinpoche went on a pilgrimage with a group of his students to some of the Buddhist holy sites in India, Nepal and Bhutan. Dreamlike Journey is a recollection of that trip, a visual journal requested by Rinpoche and done by his disciples.

The film takes us to the inauguration of a nunnery in northern Nepal, walks us through the places Lord Buddha taught more than 2500 years ago, and shows pilgrims’ ceremonies in some of the most sacred caves of Bhutan.

There are inspiring teachings by H.H. Gyalwa Karmapa, H.E. Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche Yangsi, and of course Tsoknyi Rinpoche.

Our Next Film Project

At the request of Tsoknyi Rinpoche, we are now working on a new project—a documentary feature film on Khamtrul Rinpoche, head of Khampagar Monastery, and one of Tsoknyi Rinpoche’s main teachers.

The Khamtrul Rinpoches, among the most prominent masters of the Drukpa Kagyu School, are considered to have been the principal architects of the lineage in the Kham region of Eastern Tibet. Through their attainments and due to their work for the enlightenment of all beings, the successive incarnations were great masters, examples of perfect knowledge of the teachings and practices, as well as the ideals of the bodhisattva.

In 1969, the 8th Khamtrul Rinpoche re-established Khampagar Monastery at the feet of the Himalayas in North India, as the heart of the Tibetan community Tashi Jong, where Tsoknyi Rinpoche spent 13 years during his early training.

The film will describe the activities of the 9th Khamtrul Rinpoche; delve into the tradition of the renowned Togdens—realized yogis that follow the style of Milarepa; the Shedra or Institute of Higher Studies; and the monastery itself with its famous Lama Dances.

We hope this may be a window to appreciate the richness of the contemplative tradition of the Drukpa Kagyu, and its vast altruistic work.

Fundraising

We are at the fundraising stage and have reached more than half the estimated cost, thanks to the generous donations by a few sponsors and past sales of Dreamlike Journey. Please help us complete the amount needed for this wonderful project to be materialized.

Donations can be made via PayPal to dokhampamovie@gmail.com

INVITATION
Tsoknyi Rinpoche’s next US retreat “Gently to Hear, Kindly to Judge: Awakening Unconditional Love” will be held March 20-26, 2015 in Mt Madonna, Watsonville, CA. We hope to magnify the merit of this gathering by hosting an Intensive Ngondro Practice Retreat in Santa Rosa, CA  just prior to Rinpoche’s retreat .  It is our great good fortune to have Tenzin Namsel as our teacher. The dates are March 14-19, 2015 . Santa Rosa is approximately a 2.5 hr drive (133 miles) from Watsonville, CA.

Namsel, capably recapping daily Rinpoche's teachings

Tenzin Namsel

RETREAT FORMAT
The Intensive Ngondro Practice Retreat will be a combination of basic Ngondro instructions by Namsel, group and individual practice sessions, and dharma group discussions.  The intensive practice and sangha community support will be a wonderful way to get into the spirit/frame of mind for Rinpoche’s March 2015 retreat.  The liturgy for the retreat will be the newly published Lamey Tukdrub Barchey Kunsel Ngondro manual, available at the the Pundarika Store.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Buddhist practitioners interested in either starting or deepening their Ngondro practice.  Both new and experienced practitioners are welcome. Attendance is limited to twenty participants. Please apply with a strong commitment to practice and the intention to attend the entire retreat.

LOCATION
Pamela Siliato’s home at 5415 Alta Monte Drive, Santa Rosa, CA.

ACCOMMODATIONS
There are a variety of lovely accommodations in Santa Rosa for rent that range from vacation rentals to hotel rooms. Further information will be available to registering students

MEALS
In an effort  to maintain the retreat’s container and energy we plan to have vegetarian  lunches and dinners catered. We are looking to hold the cost to around $25-30 or less per day.

FEES
There is no fee for the retreat itself, but of course a spirit of dana towards our teacher should prevail.

TO ATTEND

To assure your place in the retreat, please contact Bruce Gaber at your earliest convenience.  (See registration contact for Bruce Below. Pundarika is not processing registrations for this Ngondro Retreat.) If the number of requests exceeds capacity, we will establish a waiting list based on order of application.

Tsechu Gonpa Reconstruction Nearly Complete

We are happy to share with you this photo collection provided by Tsoknyi Rinpoche depicting the restoration progress of Tsechu Gonpa. Construction, seismic retrofitting and restoration will be completed June 20, 2015. Rebuilding and restoring Adeu Rinpoche’s gonpa has involved tremendous energy in planning, design and fundraising, as well as an enormous effort in the replacement and restoration of its damaged precious art, statues, and paintings. Celebrating the completion of the Gonpa will culminate in an installation ceremony with Adeu Rinpoche’s Yangsi formally taking his seat.

Happy New Year from Rinpoche

Tsoknyi Rinpoche Throwing Confetti

Dear Friends and Students,

Reflecting back, this has been a busy, but very good year.

I have taught many times in many places. My projects, especially the Chobar Gechak nunnery, have gone very well. A lot of progress has been made.

I want to wish a Happy New Year to all of you. I pray that all my students remain healthy and prosperous, and most importantly, progress on the spiritual path.

On this occasion of the New Year, please join me to pray for world peace — for an end to war and conflict, an end to dangerous diseases, and that we may find a solution to the climate change that threatens mother earth.

Also please join me to pray for those lost in airplane crashes.

And all those killed and suffering due to war this past year.

Now that 2014 is reaching its end, let’s pray that 2015 will be a more peaceful year in the world.

This is just a short letter of good wishes. I will send a more detailed letter for the Tibetan New Year (Losar).

Happy New Year to all my friends and students! Please continue to grow in dharma!

With warmest wishes,

Tsoknyi Rinpoche
