A writer's life... on hold for the holidays

In the month of December I've noticed that many a writer has their life on hold... At least when it comes to books, promotion and writing.
With the holidays in full swing, it's easy to understand why people aren't spending hours on line or reading new books. So taking the month off is an easy thing to do as a writer. Even publication houses have been known to close their doors this month to submissions.
So take the month to recharge, and reconnect to online friends... and even off line friends.

What would you change?
This is a question I've asked nearly every author I've interviewed here on my blog... now I wanna ask you!
If there was one thing about the publishing industry that you could change, what is it and why?
And one more...
What do you think is the most significant change you've seen happen in the last two years with this industry?

Too funny not to share

Now don't go tossing hate mail at me. I thought this was funny and with all the crazy A$$ drivers out there and shoppers who only have an hour to do five days worth the shopping, I thought it would be nice for a laughter break!
C'mon... you smiled! I know you did! I have a secret camera on my blog that shows your face!

Final Vlog for 10 things to do while waiting...
The long lost last v-log is finally here. The number one and two things to do while waiting for your editor to get back to you is below... All ya gotta do is look and listen. As always, this is my opinion and is only based on my experience as a writer.
Take it or leave it.
It works for me and some of you have asked what it is that I do to promote and achieve success in this crazy business we call publishing.
Enjoy!
If you missed the other 8 things... here are the links:

Don't delay... We'll pick one lucky winner of a free copy of Binding Vows - Book One in my MacCoinnich Time Travel Trilogy.

Two Great Reviews to Share
I thought I'd share a couple of great reviews I found from Romance Studio~
Embracing the Wolf received 5 Hearts and a glowing review. Click HERE to read the whole thing.
Here is what Hollie said about the book:
"What beautifully written story, full of humour, sexy wolves and enough intrigue to keep you hooked from page one. "
Kilt-A-Licious received 4 Hearts ~ HERE is the review.
"This is the second story in this series and it just keeps on getting better. Catherine Bybee weaves a wonderful tale of a world full of romance and adventure. As with all her other books Catherine Bybee does a good job pulling the reader into her world and keeping you entertained all the way until the end. I enjoyed this book and will be looking for more from this author in the future. "
It's always great to hear that someone read and loved my work! Thanks for reading, everyone!

Let's Review Social Networking
Last year I video blogged about Social Networking. I talked about Myspace, Facebook and Twitter and I also talked about HQN sales and how the recession isn't hitting romance very hard.
By popular demand, I'm going to re-post my video blog: See Below -
The pudding has been proven by my increasing sales over the last year. In my December Blues blog I've received a bunch of feedback and hear the frustration in the voice of many writers. It can be frustrating trying to get noticed in this crazy world of authors, books, manuscripts and slush piles. And even when you have a sale... you have to hit the road hard for people to go out and buy your books. But don't give up! Keep plugging. Keep Writing!
Take my advice on my Video Blog or toss it out the window. This is working for me, at least on some level.

December Blues
t
Not the holiday blues, not the "I ate too much blues." But the December release blues...
I posted a message on a loop not to long ago... it was a message to my author friends to help keep their chins up during the month of November and December. Unless you have a Christmas release you'll probably wish that your book that you've worked so hard for was released in any month other than December, right? I get it. December is a hard month to sell a book. People are busy, they aren't reading as much because of the hustle and hassle of the holidays.
So should you scale back on promo? Yes and no. At least in my humble opinion.
Work smarter. December is a good month to make some personal connections on the social networks. Talk to your fans, or give some holiday cheer. Talk with fellow writers and maybe give away a copy of your book or two. But spending a ton of time online posting excerpts and spamming the web probably isn't going to get you very far this month. People simply don't have time to check out your latest. But here is the good news... your book, the one you've spent a zillion hours writing and editing... that book will still be available in January and February and so on... Set up a "After Christmas Blog Tour" Make January your debut.
That is the beauty of e-books and small print publishers. We don't have a 7 week shelf life at the bookstore. We have a much longer window of time to tell the world how wonderful your book is. So work smarter all my author friends. And enjoy the holidays.
