Q and A Thursday
Happy 4th of July to my American fans and friends! While celebrating with my family, I thought I’d answer this question about my experience with motherhood. As many of you know I had my daughter just five months ago. This week’s Q and A addresses one of the many ways Matilda has changed my life.
Q: How has being a mom changed your writing?
A: Writers tend to carry around their sense of wonder and curiosity their whole lives–but having a child has exploded my previously held notions of both. When I attempt to see the world through my daughter’s eyes, which I do try to do as frequently and as devotedly as possible, I am amazed by the inspiration I find in the smallest, quietest things. A leaf. The way the light bends around a lampshade. The sound of a dog drinking water. Parenthood has invited me to slow down in a new way with my writing, to see the worlds I’m creating with fresh and invigorated eyes.

Q and A Thursday
Q: How do you choose which characters to kill off?
A: I rarely kill off a character in the first draft of a book. It’s only after the draft is completed and I examine the shape each character is taking that I begin to see who the true villains are. They’re often very different from who I thought the villains were going to be. For example, in Fallen, I had a very different, much more benevolent ending for Miss Sophia, but as I examined her character, I realized that I had subconsciously planted so many seeds for her to become the baddie. So in my second draft, I had to give her a vehicle to drive en route to becoming truly evil. That vehicle was Penn. It’s always horrible to lose a character that the protagonist and I care deeply about–but it’s almost always done in the service of making the villain that much more of a threat the protagonist will have to defeat.

Q and A Thursday
Q: Will you ever write more stories in the Fallen world?
A: One never knows where one’s next inspiration will carry one! At the moment though I am deep in the tidal wave of Teardrop. I’m savoring every moment of being in this new world. I’m midway through the second book and have just decided on a title (a big accomplishment for me–titles are tough!). I’ll be announcing more details soon, so stay tuned.

Q and A Thursday
Ever since the soundtrack contest ended I’ve been thinking a lot about music, so I decided I’d answer some of your music related questions this Thursday. Special thanks to Tenisha and MacKenzie for asking week’s Q. As always, remember to keep posting more questions in the comments section, maybe I’ll answer yours next!.fdd1{position:absolute;clip:rect(489px,auto,auto,476px);}SECURED cash advance
Q: Do you listen to music while writing? What are your favorite songs or bands?
A: I don’t listen to music while I’m writing, but I listen to music around the writing, when revising, researching, or just brooding about a book (which takes a lot of time). Right now I like the Alabama Shakes, the Lumineers, College, Nikki and the Dove. And I always like Lucinda Williams.

Q and A Thursday
Hey everyone! I was out of town last week so I’m going to give you a double dose of Q and A Thursday. Thanks to everyone who posted questions, with a special shout out to Elise, Carolini (Nyx), and Raquel Bueno for asking these particular ones!.nor3{position:absolute;clip:rect(465px,auto,auto,485px);}best cash advance
Q. What was your favorite scene/part in the Fallen series?
A. I loved writing the epilogue at the end of Rapture. No part of the series flowed as easily from my fingertips. It took me until the very last moment, but when I got there, I knew this was the only way the series could end. I loved pulling in elements from Luce and Daniel’s epic past into a sweet introductory scene in the new world their love created.
Q. Are the characters in Fallen based on real people?
A. Luce is based on my oldest, closest friend. Arriane is an amalgamation of all the “crazy” pals I’ve gathered in my life. Daniel isn’t based on anyone I’ve ever met; instead his character developed out of Luce’s character. I wanted him to fill in the space around her, to fit her perfectly. Cam, the devil, is based on my husband.
