NaNoWriMo and Book 3 Title

Hello everyone!

So since graduating college, throwing myself into the job market, and recovering from a minor operation I had back in August, I've been using my suddenly enormous amount of spare time to work on the third installment of "The Guardians of the Light." I've made a lot of progress and I've decided to help ensure my goal of finishing it by the end of the year that I'm going to make the book my project for NaNoWriMo.

Seeing as I'm already well over halfway to the 50,000 word requirement for NaNoWriMo and it's not even November yet, I'm going to make my personal deadline be Thanksgiving. I want this book written before I go to New York to see my brother and sister-in-law over that holiday. That's if I don't finish the book before October is out, because there's quite a possibility of that if I keep my current pace up. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. We all know how unpredictable my life has been over the years, hence the fact I'm still working on the same story I first thought of 8 years ago.

But that leads me to another announcement I had. Since NaNoWriMo projects have to have a title, I've decided to release the name of the book as it currently stands. I've been working on Book Three under the working title of Sheyneh, which is probably going to stick as I cannot think of anything else that would make a mite of sense.

So now I've given the book a proper name and deadline, let's see if I can make this happen.

Much luv!
~Caera

Farewell to Borders

So I took my final leave of the neighborhood Borders this afternoon.

I didn't linger very long. There's something about visiting a beloved and doomed store that is similar to visiting a dying friend, only instead of sharing the solemn moment with companions you are overrun by the sales vultures. The store looked worse than it ever did on Black Friday and that's not how I want to remember it so I gave it a nod and left again.

I have far better memories in that store to look back on; the Harry Potter release parties I attended, lazing around in the chairs before and after working at the cinema accross the street, systematically working my way through Javakulas and Rurouni Kenshin volumes, and most of all the evenings I spent there with my computer writing. In that very store I worked on Shadowchild, Phoenix, and even book three, this past Friday, when I was at the shopping center far earlier than I needed to be for the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (Apparently when you see it at 4pm on a Friday instead of 7 you don't have to wait in line).

This is the second bookstore I've lost this past year, including the Walden Books in the local mall that is now a Wet Seal store (ironically I spent my most recent mall visit hiding in there like I did when it was a book store, but it was because my friend was clothes shopping, not because I was interested in the merchandise. XD). I find these experiences painful not only because I grew up in these stores but because the lack of literary stimuli in this town is growing at an alarming rate.

I only pray that the news I heard about Books a Million buying some of the Borders stores is true, and maybe we'll get lucky and a new store will open where Borders was, because even if I did find the location poky, it was still my store, and I would like to keep going there like I have all these years.

June 29, 2010

Naturally

I set a release date for the book, then my family makes Independence Day plans (wow, since when?), and my cover pictures can't be made into the book cover so that will have to be redone, and my computer breaks, delaying the manuscript formatting.

I leave for England in a week. The whole month of July is booked.

So naturally, since I had already set the 4th as the release day, Murphy comes and makes me delay it, probably until August.

I'm not going to set a release date until I have the perfected galley in hand from now on, no matter how many people ask for one. XD

I'll keep you posted!

"Shadowchild" Winner of Pearson Prize 2010!

It's official, it's legit! I am an award winning author!

Needless to say I was very surprised by this after the confusion surround my entrance/nomination to this prize last year, but either was I was sent an email of congratulations this afternoon and I have in fact been chosen as a winner for fiction this year.

I'm very excited about this, and I'll keep you all posted as updates follow.

And don't forget to order your copy of "Shadowchild" soon! The sequel, "Phoenix" comes out July 4th!

March 13, 2010

On this Day (3-14-10)

C.E. Thornton, aka Lady Caera the Eccentric, finished "Phoenix: Book Two of the Guardians of the Light Trilogy" at 1:32 AM. Took me bloody well long enough.

Now I get to print a copy to send it for copyrights, read the whole thing over, rewrite, add, cut, and then illustrate it while others proof it. Then we have to make galley copies on lulu to make sure the cover, pages and pics all come out properly, and all that wonderful stuff, so we're looking at a late June release.

But for now, I'm going to go start book three. Good night!

On another note, HAPPY PI DAY!!!!!!
