The 8 buttons Explained on THECXSTICK for THE400 Mini

There appears to be some confusion about the button locations on THEXCSTICK for THE400 Mini. I covered THE400 Mini announcement previously, including the known games to date, but it appears that the locations of the buttons keep on confusing. I get it, it’s not immediately obvious, but there are indeed seven (7) additional functions on top of the classic single action button, which brings the total number of buttons to eight (8).

It’s probably more accurate to say that the outer ring will move in one of those four directions when pressed down in said direction rather than those being actual buttons, but the functionality remains the same. This outer ring was only decorative on the original Atari 2600 VCS joysticks.

We’ve been having some fun in one of THE400 Mini-related discussion threads on AtariAge trying to figure out THE400 Mini’s yet-to-be-revealed game list. Some were easy, since they were mentioned by name, while others just had a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it screenshot.

Once we know or figure out the remaining 9 games, I’ll do the usual official and final “game list” post. For now, this posting will do. At just $119.99 on Amazon, THE400 Mini is already looking like an easy purchase, especially since you’ll be able to add your own USB keyboard and games.

Perhaps some of the other Atari 8-bit games on Anstream can give us a clue as to what the remaining 9 games might be (a few guesses from me include Airstrike, Attack of the Mutant Camels, Bristles, Caverns of Mars, and The Adventures of Robin Hood, as well as a few of the usual first party titles from Atari).

THE400 Mini – Plug and play Atari 8-bit computer announced

Following the excellent Commodore 64 and Amiga plug and play minis, Plaion and Retro Games LTD have announced a $119.99 THE400 Mini for Atari 8-bit computer fans.

Here are the details:

A half-sized version of the distinctively styled Atari 400, emulating the whole 8-bit Atari range, including the 400/800, XL and XE series, and the 5200 home console. Also included is THECXSTICK – a superb recreation of the classic Atari CX-40 joystick, with an additional seven seamlessly integrated function buttons.

Play one of the included 25 classic Atari games, selected from a simple to use carousel, including all-time greats such as Berzerk, Lee, Millipede, Miner 2049er, M.U.L.E. and Star Raiders II, or play the games you own from USB stick.

Plus save and resume your game at any time, or rewind by up to 30 seconds to help you finish those punishingly difficult classics!

It’s due out March 28, 2024. Those in the US will be able to find it at either Atari.com or Amazon.com.

Evercade Platform – Master List of Games through December 2023

The amazing Evercade platform, which features consoles, handhelds, and a wide variety of game cartridges, often with multiple games, continues to grow. You can find the link to the Google Sheets master list of Evercade games here. This version is current as of December 8, 2023, and includes the addition of the as-yet-unreleased THE64 Collection 3, which was just announced.

Counting the exclusive games on the EXP, the total game count, not counting unlockables or the free monthly game(s), is 481. Including the two Super Pocket handhelds, the game count is 511, with some overlap. There are presently 53 total cartridges, two of which only work on handhelds due to licensing restrictions.
