In The Spotlight ~ Book Review of Mosquitoland From A Youth

Hi and welcome to our Thursday segment.
This is a very special post because my daughter, Jordy, is doing a book review. We do many of these on the blog, as you all know, but this one is special. Not just because my kid is doing it but more because she is reviewing a book for youth as a youth on some very heavy subjects and she does it with openness, honesty, and respect.
I am so proud.
Without further ado, here is her review. I strongly recommend this book, by the way.

Music Mantra Monday ~ Remembering With Tears In Heaven
Welcome to our Monday segment! It's a bit later than usual but at least I'm getting it out. :)
I had an entirely different focus for today's post, but I think I'll save that for tomorrow. Just as I sat down to research songs for my original idea, my aunt texted me reminding me that my favorite Uncle's Birthday was today. I reached for the phone for our usual Birthday jab call then remembered...he isn't with me anymore.
My Uncle Craig passed away in September 2017. I barely recall hearing the ne...

Music Mantra Monday ~ Wiping Monday Fuzzies With The Beatles
Welcome to our Monday segment.
Well, it's been too long since I've had my Beatley goodness on the blog. It's not that I don't turn to them at least a couple times of day while I'm working. We just haven't had them join us on our Music segment for a while.
Revolver is one of my favorite albums. I think it's because it's right in the middle of the 'Mop Top Boys' phase and the more psychedelic stuff they are well-known for (mostly thanks to John). It's also the pedway to where they'd leave off the...

The Face of Liver Disease ~ My Bare Truth

I've kept my own condition very private, only entrusting a very small circle of people who I knew wouldn't broadcast it to the world. It's much easier to hide behind my computer screen through articles and blog posts than it is to be right out there fron...

Foodie Friday ~ Homemade Gnocchi

We've been a little sparse with our posts this past week. As much as my writing means to me, my health and children mean even moreso. There are times when our focus and priorities have to be re-positioned in order to deal with more pressing issues and that's what this past week had in store for me. So, I thank you for your patience and so appreciate your support.
With that said, let's get down to the subject of our segment today...FOOD!
With my job, I've had opportun...

Saturday Writing Prompt ~ A Picture Says 1000 Words

I thought we'd go a different direction this week by using a picture as a prompt rather than a situational one. Some of my favorite stories I've written have been based on personal experiences, dreams I've had or pictures I've come across in doing research for articles and blog posts. The common idea in each of these is that they are visual. What we can see can stir up emotions and the words to breathe life into those emotions. The end result can be so powerful...

In The Spotlight - Book Review of Hit and Run by Dr. Bob Rich

As you all know, we usually dedicate today's segment to phenomenal people doing incredible things to selflessly help others. Today, I wanted to share a book I just recently finished because the main character in this story shows the true results of how the generous acts of one person can impact the life of another simply by showing they care.
Hit and Run starts off with a tragedy. A young 14-year-old man, Chuck, speeds down a street and blows through a crosswalk killing several children a...

Foodie Friday ~ Quick Green Pea Soup W/Ham

This week on our meal plan, I made a ham dinner with scalloped potatoes and lots of green veggies. I never have a worry that potatoes will be leftover in the fridge for very long and I usually end up eating all the veg. But we often have an abundance of meat that doesn't always get gobbled up as quickly as when it was initially served. The question I was left answering was, what the heck do I do with all of this leftover ham?
A couple of my kids don't mind rehea...

Music Mantra Monday - Helping Our Kids Find Their Wings
Welcome to our Monday segment.
As I do every week, I scoured the Internet trying to find a song that sings to me. Usually, I go with something that shares what's in my heart when I got up in the morning. All I can say is that if you're trying to find a song that talks about parents letting their kids go have a ginormous box of Kleenex nearby because there are some awesome ones out there.
I am not usually drawn to country music, even though it often says a lot of what I feel. The song I was...
