progress update and Christmas giveaway!

Making good progress on editing GHOST IN THE COUNCIL, and I should be on track to have the book out in January. I’ve also started on the outlines for DRAGONTIARNA: WRAITHS and CLOAK OF ASHES, which I hope will be February’s and March’s books, respectively.

Meanwhile, this week I’m going to do a Christmas short story giveaway! Sign up for my newsletter, and latter this week I’ll send out an email with links to a bunch of free short story downloads on Smashwords and Bookfunnel.

Editing is underway for GHOST IN THE COUNCIL, so let’s see the excellent cover image, designed by Clarissa Yeo.

If all goes well, GHOST IN THE COUNCIL should be out in early January.

GHOST IN THE COUNCIL rough draft done!

I am pleased to report that the rough draft of GHOST IN THE COUNCIL is done!

At 110,000 words, it will be the longest book to date in the GHOST NIGHT series, and the longest Caina book since GHOST IN THE WINDS back in 2016.

Next up, I need to take two days to do some book formatting work and setup for some audio projects I want to pursue in 2020 (including a very large one that I have codenamed “Project Colossus” for reasons of amusing myself). Then I’m going to write a GHOSTS short story called GHOST CANDLE that I will give away for free to newsletter subscribers when GHOST IN THE COUNCIL comes out. GHOST CANDLE will be the first Caina short story I’ve written since 2016! It will be set chronologically between GHOST IN THE MAZE and GHOST IN THE HUNT.

If all goes well, GHOST IN THE COUNCIL should be out in early January. (And as an added bonus, I think the audio version of GHOST IN THE COWL will be out shortly thereafter.)

Tune on Friday to see the cover image for GHOST IN THE COUNCIL!

Question For Google Play Users

If you use Google Play, have you noticed any formatting errors in DRAGONTIARNA: GATES?

I received an email complaining of formatting errors in DRAGONTIARNA: GATES, but I’ve checked it on both an Android phone and tablet, and I can’t find any problems.

I’m inclined to chalk it up to user error of some kind or a software configuration unique with that particular device, but I thought I would check to see if any other GP users had been having problems.

CLOAK GAMES: OMNIBUS ONE now in audio!

I am pleased to report that CLOAK GAMES: OMNIBUS ONE is now available in audiobook, as excellently narrated by Meghan Kelly. CLOAK GAMES: OMNIBUS ONE contains the first three CLOAK GAMES books (and the bonus short story WRAITH WOLF) for nearly 18 hours of listening enjoyment, and you can listen to it at AudibleAmazon USAmazon UKAmazon AU, and iTunes.

And there’s also a great bargain for Amazon US users! If you get the ebook of CLOAK GAMES: OMNIBUS ONE for $0.99 USD, you can get the audiobook for only $7.47.

That’s just slightly less than half the cost of a monthly Audible credit. Not a bad deal! So if you have some Christmas travel coming up, this might make that time in the car or a plane go down a bit easier.

Super Mario Brothers 3

I’m not very good at finishing video games.

But! Last Christmas I got an NES Classic as a present, and since then I’ve finished Super Mario Brothers, Legend of Zelda, Castlevania, and Castlevania 2.

I played all those games back in the 80s and the 90s, but I never had a chance to finish them because they didn’t have good options for saving progress (Zelda and Castlevania 2 did, but they were quite limited). But the NES Classic has Save States, which is handy. It’s also useful when playing something like Super Mario Brothers. I would save right before Mario had to make a difficult jump, and reload the save state until I got it right.

A few people were horrified at that – they said it only counts if you play the games without Save States and restart every time you run out of lives. But let’s be realistic. I don’t have time for that – I’m an adult with actual work to do. I have to issue contractor tax forms at the end of the year, for heaven’s sake. Am I going to say “Sorry, DRAGONTIARNA: GATES isn’t coming out until February because I want to beat Super Mario Brothers 3, and purists say that using the Save State feature is cheating!” I mean, if there had been a Save State feature in the 90s, I would have used it outrageously.

I think the next game I want to finish is Super Mario Brothers 3. I did play it back in the 90s, but I never had the chance to finish.

Also, the Mario games are fun to play in winter when everything is essentially stark black and white outside – the Mario games bright and colorful and bubbly by contrast.

As if this writing, I’m at the start of World 3, which is actually farther than I ever got back in the 90s. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the game’s worlds!

December progress – GHOST IN THE COUNCIL and SILENT ORDER!

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving!

I knew I wasn’t going get much writing done around Thanksgiving, so I set a goal of getting to 60,000 words into GHOST IN THE COUNCIL. I’m pleased that I actually got to 63,200.

But! Full speed ahead. New writing goal of reaching 90,000 words of GHOST IN THE COUNCIL by the end of this week.

I think December might be the month when I finally finish the rough draft of SILENT ORDER: ROYAL HAND, since I’m almost halfway through, but we’ll see how this month plays out.
