Two master thieves. One dangerous prize.

Caina has the ancient Sword of the Iron King, one of the five relics that could return the necromancer-king to torment mankind once more.

But Caina knows where the Iron King’s Dagger is hidden, and if she and Countess Kalthane can steal the weapon from its malevolent keepers, two of the five relics will be unable to harm anyone.

There’s just one problem.

The Dagger is hidden in the grim halls of the Iron King’s castle.

And sinister guardians lurk in the castle’s shadows…

brief excerpts from GHOST IN THE TALISMAN

Editing GHOST IN THE TALISMAN today, so let’s have two brief excerpts!

“I shall leave you to your business,” said Damla once the coffee and the wine had been poured.

“You can stay, of course,” said Caina.

“No, no,” said Damla. “The House is busy tonight.” She smiled. “You have been a great blessing to me, my friend. The Living Flame sent you to me in my hour of need. But if I have learned anything in the years since the day you first walked through my door, it’s that there are some things I am happier not knowing.”

###

Agabyzus smiled a little. “I did always admire how you thought things through.”

“Unless she happened to set a building on fire,” said Morgant.

“Well.” Agabyzus considered that. “Sometimes it is best to improvise.”

Get a free GHOSTS short story!

Be sure to sign up for my new-release newsletter! When GHOST IN THE TALISMAN comes out this month, newsletter subscribers will also get a free copy of the GHOST short story GHOST EYE.

It is the story of how Maglarion tried to claim the Ring of Rasarion Yagar for himself. It didn’t go well. 🙂

If all goes well, GHOST IN THE TALISMAN will be out before the end of February.

A ruthless necromancer. An artifact of dark power.

Maglarion is one of the strongest necromancers in the Empire of Nighmar, and he intends to live forever.

The ancient relic called the Ring of Rasarion Yagar might give Maglarion all the power he needs to achieve immortality.

But the Ring’s guardians, the ancient servants of the dreaded Iron King, will not willingly part with their master’s treasure.

And there are darker powers in the world than Maglarion…

I finally beat Super Mario World

It took me four months (I started on October 1st) but I finally finished Super Mario World.

Man, that was a hard game! I never actually played it in the 90s, which I always mildly regretted, but I’m glad I didn’t play it until 2020. There was absolutely no way I would have been able to finish the game without liberal use of the save state feature.

Still, I’m glad I finally got to experience this particular piece of video gaming history.

Though it is amusing that Bowser decided to show up to the final battle in a giant flying robot clown’s head.

GHOST IN THE TALISMAN cover image & description

It’s Friday! Editing is underway for GHOST IN THE TALISMAN, which means it’s time to share the cover image, which was excellently done by Clarissa Yeo.

If all goes well, GHOST IN THE TALISMAN will be out before the end of February!

Here’s the book description!

AVENGING FIRE now available!

I wrote a mystery novel!

You can get AVENGING FIRE at Amazon USAmazon UKAmazon DEAmazon CAAmazon AUBarnes & NobleApple BooksKoboGoogle Play, and Smashwords.

AVENGING FIRE is “Project Update”, my 11th bonus writing goal for 2021. It was originally published as SHARE THE PAIN back in 2011, but I never promoted it or really did anything with it. I decided it would be interesting to republish it using the tools I have now and see what happens. 🙂

If you like mysteries, I hope you enjoy this book!

AVENGING FIRE has already sold more copies this week than it sold over ten years as SHARE THE PAIN. Thanks everyone! I think we can safely say that cover design matters. 🙂

Thanks for trying a new genre of my writing, since previously I’ve written mostly fantasy and science fiction. Though from my perspective, it’s an old genre for me. I wrote this book like 15 years ago, and self-published it in May 2011. But DEMONSOULED (which I wrote 21 years ago now) was what took off for me in 2011, and so I focused on epic fantasy instead. I suppose there is a parallel universe somewhere where SHARE THE PAIN happened to take off instead. In that timeline, I’ve written 100 mystery novels in the last ten years, and have just decided to republish DEMONSOULED with a new cover to see what happens… 🙂

GHOST IN THE TALISMAN rough draft done!

I am pleased to report that the rough draft of GHOST IN THE TALISMAN is done! If all goes well the book will come out sometime in February.

Two things coming up next:

-I’m going to write GHOST EYE, a bonus short story I will give away for free to my newsletter subscribers when GHOST IN THE TALISMAN comes out. GHOST EYE will be set about thirty years before Caina was born, and describe the necromancer Maglarion’s attempt to seize the Ring of Rasarion Yagar for himself. (Needless to say, it doesn’t go well!) It’s been like eleven years since I wrote anything from Maglarion’s perspective, so it will be interesting to get back to that.

-This week I will publish “PROJECT UPDATE”, my bonus eleventh writing goal of 2021.

Watch this space for updates!
