Missing: Kerri the Book Writer...I mean Editor...I mean...who is she again?

WHERE AM I?

Isn't it terrible that I can only remember the last time I posted here on my blog by checking the date on my oldest post?  Geez!

Where have I been all this time?

Did I run away to a deserted island?

Did I leave the publishing business all together?

Maybe I was eaten by the 15 foot gator who lives near my home (seriously--I've seen pics of him, though I haven't met him in person)?

The answers to those questions are:

No, but it sure is hot here in the sunny southeast.

No--never!

Not yet, although I hear he likes blondes and that counts me out!

Seriously, I've been working.  I've been writing a brand new mystery series which will release its first book in December under the name Kerri Kildare (hence the new header up there).

I've been building my new freelance editorial business from the ground up.  I'm also an editor for two publishing houses and I'm still running my promotions blog .

On top of all that, I'm getting back in shape and nearly killing myself doing that.  Did you know that muscles can actually scream?  I promise you.  I heard my quads screaming on the stairs just yesterday.

Let's see...

I've also been managing 3 (sometimes 4--one in college) kids.  Can you believe they think that Momma's needs should come last?  Geez! ;-)

Hmmm....I know there are more things I do.

Oh yeah...volunteering for my multitude of chapters; teaching workshops; attending author events and conferences.

Here's a pick of me and such notables as Linda Howard at a luncheon hosting thriller author J.T. Ellison earlier this year.
That's me third from the right in the blue/floral shirt.

Oh, and I'll be teaching my popular Book Factory class for the first time LIVE at the Moonlight & Magnolias conference in October.  Hope to see you there.

And...when I wasn't doing all that.  I was out kissing mascots.  WHAT?  Yep, the secret is out.  I have a thing for mascots.  Visit my website to check it out here on my Mad About Mascots Page.  Have you ever kissed a biscuit eater?  I have.

Whew!

I'm tired just thinking of all the stuff I've been doing and why I haven't blogged here in almost (hushed tone) two years.

The good news...I'm BACK!

Missed you guys.

Hugs,
Kerri

In Other News: Take Time to VOTE!

In Other News...

Today is the kick off for my run for office with Romance Writers of America. An organization I've been a member of since 2005!

Since that time, I've been an active member of over half a dozen different chapters and have served as Chapter President, Treasurer and Education Coordinator among other positions.

So, I decided it was time to take my chapter experience to a new level--the National level. If you are a member of RWA and have a the opportunity to vote, I'd appreciate your consideration for Chapter Liaison. Ballots were delivered to you via e-mail today and voting runs throughout the month of September.

It would be my honor and pleasure to serve the organization as the representative of the myriad of chapters currently in operation.

Thanks in advance to all who take time to VOTE!

Your humble servant,

Kerri Nelson

WIP: UPDATE & Prize Winner from 3K Challenge!

Don't forget to JUST Read!

Well, I'm back (a couple days late) but I've been trying to wrap up end of the month stuff and trying to finish this book. Today's my self imposed deadline and I'm way over my word count goal and with only 2 scenes left to write--I think I'll make it.

I'll be back next week with another update and then I'll be getting started on the dreaded edits. Ugh!

Thanks to all who participated with me in last week's challenge. I think it is time to take a break from writing and Just Read! I promised PRIZES and this time I'm giving 3 prizes to one lucky winner.

What are the prizes?

In Seconds by Brenda Novak (Bestselling author's newest release!)

An Autographed Lori Wilde book (Winner's choice)Winner's Choice of Autographed Copy books from my back list!

I had my trusty 3 year old draw a winner at random and the winner is...

Brenna!!!

CONGRATS!

Please contact me with your snail mail address and I'll get those prizes out to you.

Thanks for checking in and come back in September to Edit with me!

3K-a-Day Challenge Kerri's Day #5 Results

Celebrate Good Times, Come On!

Well...well...well...we've made it to the end of Day #5 but did I reach my goal of 15K in 5 days?

I'm happy to report that....

YES! I did.

Today's total of 3989 put me at a total of 15, 203 for the 5 day total! (Insert trumpets blasting! Pop open that bottle of spirits, my good man!)

That's the good news...

The bad news is that despite reaching 100.2% of my WIP goal, I've yet to complete my book. LOL

But to my own defense, I did decide to change the ending just 2 days ago and that has added on some additional necessary scenes.

So, I've made a promise to myself to keep up the pace through the weekend and try to finish the book by Monday. I'll come back then and let you know how I did. I'll also give you the weekend to be sure everyone has had a chance to post their results.

Be sure to stop by then and see if you're a PRIZE winner for participating in my 3K-a-day challenge. Thanks to all who've joined me and I'm proud of all you've accomplished.

Keep writing even when the end plays peek-a-boo with you.

Hugs,

Kerri

3K-a-Day Challenge Kerri's Day #4 Results

Who Wants a Happy Pill?

I'm feeling much better today than I did the past two days. A real sense of accomplishment and forward progress toward the end of this book. I do fear that I may end up going over the anticipated word count but figure I'll do some cutting during editing. So, all is good.

I'm going to try to push through and finish the book tomorrow but I may need another day to do it. Nonetheless, this week was about making 15K and today I made up some ground that I lost the past two days. That being said, I can't believe we are down to the last 2 days of the challenge.

I've officially gone over the 400 page mark in my book and I'm well over 70K now. I can almost taste victory and it has that happy pill after taste.

Push through the pain, people!

Here's my total for today: 4075!

How'd you do?

Sending positive vibes your way,

Kerri

3K-a-Day Challenge Kerri's Day #3 Results

Distractions! Distractions!

I wish I had some of these road cones for my house. Caution! Beware! Story Construction in Progress!

Way too many distractions today folks. I'm going to be struggling to wrap this up by Friday. We'll see how it goes. TWO more days on the challenge.

I must stop work for now and deal with children issues but I'm happy to report I made it "almost" there again today. I'm settling for 2075 words today. Almost at 400 pages on my manuscript and just came up with a completely different ending than I'd originally planned for. Go figure.

Hope you all had a wonderful Hump Day! How'd you do on the word count goals?

See you tomorrow,

Kerri

3K-a-Day Challenge Kerri's Day #2 Results

Planets Out of Whack?

Thanks to everyone who is hanging in there with me on the challenge. I'm enjoying reading your daily updates. Feel free to post them the following day if time zones are in issue for you. No worries.

Day #2 has been insane. Nothing is going right for me today. I'm going to chalk it up to a planets out of alignment day and have decided not to report the nitty gritty details.

It took me until nearly 3 p.m. to pull out 777 words at first count. But then I had to force out an hour of solid writing time and managed to up my count to 2028 for the day. Not quite the 3K I wanted but I'll take it. Some days are good and some days are bad. This one was just plain bizarre.

How'd you all do?

See you tomorrow,

Kerri

3K-a-Day Challenge Kerri's Day #1 Results

"You write with ease, to show your breeding,

but easy writing's curst hard reading."

--Richard Brinsley Sheridan

Just wrapped up day one and I'm late tonight. A rarity with me as I typically collapse into a pile of rubble after all the kids go down for the night. But, alas...I must post the Day #1 Results. Here goes:

Day #1

10:34 a.m.

Busy Monday morning with many more challenges than I expected but I finally got in some writing. 839 words my first jaunt out of the gate. Back soon for Round #2. Good morning!

12:13 p.m. Update

I'm up to 1243 words and taking a break for lunch with the kids. Hope you all are doing great with your word counts today. ½ way there…almost.

9:19 p.m. Update

Sorry for the late update folks. My afternoon got complicated and I had to put off finishing up until the kids were down. I rarely do this but was determined to get my 3K. I ended the day at 3036. So, I'll take it!

How'd you all do? Let's hear it!

See you tomorrow...

--K.
