Wishing Shelf Book Awards

In December of 2015, I entered the first novel in the Smoke Tree Series, "The House of Three Murders," in the Wishing Shelf writing awards contest in the United Kingdom.

I was recently pleased to be notified the book was a finalist in the contest.

Death on a Desert Hillside

Death on a Desert Hillside went live on Amazon this morning. I enjoyed writing the book. Now looking forward to book five in the series.

February Publication

Death on a Desert Hillside is finished and undergoing final polishing and proofreading. It will be published before the end of the month, and I will be off to the next novel. Have three ideas for the next one, complete with plot lines and new characters, but I'm not sure yet which one I will pursue. I'm waiting for those new characters to make their voices heard.

Great fun!

Nearly complete

The completion of "Death on a Desert Hillside" was slowed considerably because Ginny and I moved to a new location here on the island. For almost a month, I didn't do any work on the book. As usual, moving caused considerable disruption, but on the plus side we got rid of some of the junk that inevitably piles up in living quarters over time. As my father used to say, "Three moves are as good as a fire."

Should be into revision/final edit/proofreading soon.
I certainly have enjoyed writing this book. As usual,it has been fun having the characters tell me how it was going to turn out. They certainly seem to have minds of their own.

Progress Report

More than halfway through Death on a Desert Hillside. Very enjoyable experience writing this book! Fun to walk around with all these ideas bouncing around in my head, as well as new ideas for future books.

Death on a Desert Hillside

This story is writing itself. As with everything I write, it is morphing and going off in directions I hadn't considered. Undisciplined, I suppose, but these characters keep showing up and telling me what they're going to do.
Who am I to refuse?

And, as you can see, the title has changed again.

Death in a Desert Wash

It is strange the way my books can change when I am writing them. In my new book, the story I originally started to tell has changed somewhat. (For the better, I hope.) I think "Death in a Desert Wash" will be the title.

Smoke Tree Series

The third book in the Smoke Tree Mystery series, "Mojave Desert Sanctuary," went up for sale on Amazon on Saturday, April 11.

After taking a deep breath and relaxing for a few days, I am now at work on the fourth book in the series. This one will take place mostly in and around the town of Smoke Tree and will feature Horse, Chemehuevi Joe and some new characters.

Mojave Desert Sanctuary

Mojave Desert Sanctuary will be published before the end of March. It is undergoing final editing, proofreading and cover design now.

Aeden Snow, Lieutenant Caballo ("Horse") and Chemehuevi Joe are all back in this one, plus some new characters. I am pleased with the way the novel turned out. I enjoyed writing it.

Mojave Desert Sanctuary

I am hard at work on the third book in the Smoke Tree Series. This one moves back and forth between Smoke Tree, what is now known as the Mojave National Preserve Area and Las Vegas.

As with the first book, "The House of Three Murders," the sections involving Aeden Snow are narrated in the first person, while the rest of the book is told in third person.

One note: I have been pleased to see that a number of the first two books have been purchased by U K readers. I would be very happy if one of the U K readers would review either book. Curious to see what a U K reader would make of a tale set in the Mojave Desert in the early sixties.
