“decision, she opened the gate to the chicken pen. Nothing happened. Then she stood outside with seeds in her hand. Hundreds of chickens fled the pen. Mia laughed and watched the feathery creatures. She glanced around one last time, then turned forward and started walking. Caleb, riding the evil horse, matched her pace. They had decided to let Caleb ride the horse for two reasons—one, was that it was easier for him on a computer screen to ride than it was for Mia to ride in her reality. But the second was because the evil horse hated Mia. Like actually hated her. Even as they walked, the horse glared in Mia’s direction. They hadn’t been walking long when Mia looked back and noticed the sniffer was following them. It had grown in the last few days and was now massive, bigger than Mia and Caleb combined.
