Out of the hole

The photo is of Winnie - who thought a little stretch of water on the beach was a shallow puddle. It wasn't and he went under. He's only a little chap.
I thought my story was quite straightforward too - not shallow!! - but not too tricky plot-wise. Of course, I do tend to think that until I get stuck part way through because I haven't planned anything out. But success!! I've emerged from the deep hole and written my way to the last chapter. Well, penultimate chapter. The bad guys will get their comeuppance and my heroes will get their HEA - after they've done apologising.
The only thing left to do is NAME THAT BOOK.  I either have the name at the start or it comes later. Much later in this case. I think I'm going with Coming Undone.

Inspiration

I'm so lucky. This is almost on my doorstep. The river Wharfe wending its way through the Yorkshire countryside. Hard to believe that a little way downstream the river narrows to a channel only a few feet wide. Almost narrow enough to jump. Of course, water rushes through and it's very dangerous and jumping is the last thing anyone should do. But people still do it. A couple on their honeymoon died there in 1998. No one knows what happened. It's suspected one or both of them slipped. Doubtful they'd tried to jump. Only foolish boys do that. But it's a reminder that something deadly can often lurk beneath something beautiful.

Love is precious

Today, the 17th May, is the International Day Against Homophobia and I’m pleased to be part of a blog hop to publicize it. Yet I’m also sad that such an event should be needed. What right does anyone have to declare same-sex love to be wrong or immoral or disgusting? You might not understand it, or prefer to ignore it, but I hope you wouldn’t condemn it. 
Very little makes me happier than to see people in love. I spend my time writing about it. About men and women, two men and a woman and more recently two men. I put my characters through all sorts of trauma but in the end, they live happily ever after and I wish we could let gay guys and women do the same. It’s hard enough to be different in this world and bigoted people make it worse. We only get one chance at life – unless you believe in reincarnation! Let love find its home without our prejudice.
When I was researching for my book Cowboys Down, I came across the story of a young man, Matthew Sheperd, who was tortured and murdered in 1998 in Wyoming simply because he was gay. The more I read, the more horrified I was. It made me think not just about poor Matthew and his family, but all those who knew him, the impact his murder had on their lives, particularly if they were gay. So without using Matthew’s name, I made my cowboy Calum, a friend of his, and explored the impact of homophobic murder in my story.
