Upcoming Anthologies
Two forthcoming anthologies that feature my work are now available for pre-order through their respective publishers.
The Children of Old Leech: A Tribute to the Carnivorous Cosmos of Laird Barron is now available for pre-order courtesy of Word Horde. This anthology includes my story "The Old Pageant" as well as tales from Mike Griffin, Scott Nicolay, Molly Tanzer, Stephen Graham Jones and other people of immense talent.
Details can be found, and orders placed, here.

A Darke Phantastique: Encounters with the Uncanny and Other Magical Things is a massive anthology of macabre and magical tales. My tale "Creaking Earth" shares a Table of Contents with stories and poems by Don Webb, Steve Rasnic & Melanie Tem, S.T. Joshi, Joe R. Lansdale and many, many more. The book also features a previously unpublished Foreword by none other than the late Ray Bradbury. Readers of this blog are likely aware of my affection for Ray and his works of October ethos, so appearing in this book alongside one of his last "new" works is an honour.
Details can be found, and orders placed, here.
In other news, I have just learned that my story "A Cavern of Redbrick" from Shadows & Tall Trees 5 has received an Honourable Mention in Ellen Datlow's Best Horror of the Year Volume 6, coming later this year from Night Shade Books. And of course "A Cavern of Redbrick" was also selected for The Year's Best Weird Fiction Volume 1, which is also available for pre-order here.
There will be more news to come...

Entitled The Children of Old Leech, the book will include my story "The Old Pageant" along with a batch of stories from some of today's darkest talents, such as Daniel Mills, John Langan, Scott Nicolay and Molly Tanzer.

STRANGE AEONS & DARKE PHANTASTIQUE
Two new projects bear mentioning:
Issue 13 of STRANGE AEONS magazine will be a very special edition, one that is available exclusively to those who donate to the Kickstarter campaign for the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival and CthulhuCon. This "lost" issue of STRANGE AEONS includes my story "The Astral Mask", which was available only in my now out-of-print collection The Darkly Splendid Realm.
In other news, Jason V. Brock has edited a titanic anthology, Darke Phantastique, which will be published later this year by Cycatrix Press. A new story of mine, entitled "Creaking Earth", will be appearing in this watershed book. To view the impressive Table of Contents click here.

THE MARE'S NEST
An update for those who might be interested:
For the past year I have been writing (along with numerous other projects) a new novella. It is entitled THE MARE'S NEST. It builds upon the kaleidoscopic narrative structure I developed for THE ELDRITCH FAITH, my 2012 novella.
THE MARE'S NEST is a tale of oneiric horror. It deals with transcendent nightmares and the tangled bonds between fathers and sons. I am deeply excited about it and think it might just break new ground. The story is telling itself, incrementally, one careful scene at a time. It will be finished when it's finished, though I hope that will be sometime this year.

After the Final on YouTube
Morgan Scorpion is an accomplished reader of Horror fiction and she frequently uploads her readings to YouTube. Recently she contacted me requesting permission to record a recitation of my Thomas Ligotti tribute story "After the Final." Naturally I encouraged her to do so.
"After the Final" is now available for your listening pleasure. Click here and tremble.
My thanks to Morgan Scorpion for this terrific recording.

Essay at El Almohadón de Plumas
Felix Garcia has written an insightful and deeply flattering meditation on my work at El Almohadón de Plumas. More than a book review, this piece discusses some of the philosophical and Gnostic principles that I try to weave into my fiction.
As you might have ascertained from the website's name, this essay was originally penned in Spanish. However, Felix has graciously translated it into English as well. It's thrilling to see my work receiving such deep attention and also to have my stories being discussed in languages other than my native tongue, for this lends credence to the idea that art is universal.
Those who wish to read the essay in Spanish may do so here.
The English translation can be found here.

2014
I’ve never been one to deliver progress reports on projects I'm still in the midst of completing. I only announce works that I feel are ready to be presented to the world. This philosophy, coupled with the fact that I am a writer who tends to build new stories and essays incrementally, accounts for the occasionally long spans of radio silence between project announcements.
Suffice it to say that not only am I writing daily, I am in fact juggling more endeavors than ever before. Many of these are strictly sub rosa at this point, which is good and as it should be. There will be many new works coming to fore in 2014/2015. While not all of them are in the realm of Horror fiction, they are certainly of the Dark. I feel very blessed to be working on the projects to which I’ve been invited, and to be working with the people who invited me.
I wish all of you a happy new year. To those who have taken an interest in my work, I offer my heartfelt thanks as well as a promise that this shadowy descent has only just begun...

Austin Osman Spare
Today is the one-hundred-twenty-seventh anniversary of the birth of Austin Osman Spare, a man whose Visions never fail to inspire me.
Happy birthday, borough Satyr. I hope my own literary attempts at evoking the Liminal would have pleased you.
