a minute later, the table was covered with books.

a week later, this picture was seen by millions and commented upon as a Sign of these Troubling Times.

Digging dog

The small neurotic dog has a lot to communicate. Because she has no tail, and doesn't even wiggle her butt like most self-respecting dogs, she has to do much of her talking with digging. I think we've lived together long enough that I can discern her digging code.

Fast frantic digging= like a frantic tail wag. She'll do this on our legs (ow ow ow) when we walk in. Or, if she's in a playful mood, she'll dig on rugs.

wait, let me switch to first person...

Slow dab of the paw, one paw=Yo, hey, move the stuff off your lap. I require a place to lie down.

Faster poke of the paw=I'm cold and you're a clueless pain the ass, human. Let me under my blanket. Now.

Leaning over on her side and digging under the counters=I'm bored and have no idea what that is under there, but I'll eat it anyway. Care to give me a snack instead?

Reaching up and patting our face=You're kinda cute. Want to scratch behind my ears? Sure ya do.

Digging at Soozee's face=We're siblings and here's the proof: I'll annoy you until you go rawr and then everyone will say "HEY, LEAVE that POOR LIL DOG ALONE" I excel in sister torture.

She's much less crazed when strangers come over, although she still dislikes teenaged girls. And if a stranger tries to pat her she growls, moves away, and then when they straighten up, rears up on her hind legs and rests her front paws on their legs. Until they lean over again to pat her and she growls. Sounds obnoxious, but, really .... okay, it is obnoxious.

New Book, Sort of...

But not really.

The old book was POWDER OF LOVE by Summer Devon -- and it is now POWDER OF SIN by Kate Rothwell.

Dammit, why, cries a justifiably annoyed public, why are you making this change?

Oh, calm down, annoyed public. It's not like great throngs of you bought the book...but I get why changes that seem random are annoying. Here, I have good reasons and allow me to explain them to you.

Title Change: I got a few snippy notes/comments from people who thought the title was POWER of Love and they were annoyed that it was a fairly smutty book. The powder in question is a genuine aphrodisiac.

They were expecting something inspirational, which means they should have read the description, but I understand the misread thing. At least if someone removes the "D" in their brains they won't be offended that the book has a fair helping of Sin, or at least references to it.

Author Change: They're both me. But Kate, bless her, got some compliments on her abilities to write historicals. If I want to drag in some of those ancient compliments then I should use that name. From now on, historicals that are not m/m will be by Kate Rothwell and Summer will just have to stick to her own side of the room.

Go sulk, Summer. You're not the only one who can make some sales -- I hope.

Oh, right. I forgot to tell you.

HEY!

brendurbanist at gmail dot com

You won. I forgot to tell you guys that! Sorry! I posted the winners in other spots but where the actual winner showed up? Nope.

I'll be sending you the book.

Taming the Bander had a nice little run--in the top 100 gay books at Amazon and the top ten at Samhain off and on most of the week (still lingering at the top at Samhain). Now this week's batch of books will take its place. But I did like seeing that and I took screen shots which I will keep and gloat over during the long dark days of bad sales.

In other news they're doing stuff to the old Borders across the street. The ghost writing, the shadow of the store's name is gone so we can move on. Adios entirely, Borders. This passage along time goes faster and faster.

AAAAAAAAAAnd that's about it. Except they have the music cranked too loud here at Barnes and Noble. It lends a sense of desperation to the place as if it's trying to grab us and make us buy music, please please buy it on these obsolete disk things.

I won't be watching this building if BN goes away and leaves nothing but a ghost sign.

I'm going to post a winner tomorrow but first

Like my new clock?

I do.  I made it and you can buy one for your obsessive writer. (there are other versions of the writer's clock, but I wanted one without the alcoholic content.)

Happy Release Day to Me!!

Summer has an m/m out today at Samhain. Yay! And it's gotten two good reviews. Yay!

4.75/5 stars at Jessewave

"A deliciously light-hearted story about an unusual shapeshifter and his unlikely lover....

This was a refreshing change from the usual shifter fare, and not
only for the fact that Jake turned into something a lot more original
than a wolf, and there wasn’t a fated mate in sight.

"Plus, no one growled “mine” during sex, another nice bonus point.

"Instead, I got a wonderful pairing of tall, dark and silent with
bright, vivid and chatty.  Flintstone and spark. Rock and wind. Jake and
Vaughn complement each other beautifully, even though it takes both of
them a while to see that, and I had a great time being a fly on their
wall. Warmly recommended."

 --Feliz

at goodreads:

"I really enjoyed the two MCs. And since I'm a
sucker for animals, I loved the setting of the Ark (an animal shelter). The
UST/sparks were flying between these two characters and the development of
their physical and romantic relationship was nicely threaded throughout the
book. The sub-plot of the entitled cousins losing all their money was unique
and interesting. It felt like a good, solid contemporary to me (well, except
one MC could, you know, become an animal). Recommended.

all dressed up and nowhere to go

I have this wicked cool graphic that Angela Waters made for me, but I don't know where to put it.

An ad? I haven't advertised in forever (I didn't see much of a change in my numbers when I bought ads) but maybe I should buy an ad just to get the gif out there.

Two more days until the book releases. The title still makes me snicker, thanks to Mike.

Hey, come on--easily amused is a feature.

Of course you have to slog through hundreds of categories and thousands of names, but I am there. Best Author (in the "Local People" category.) I'll buy you a cup of coffee if you do.

Voting ends March 4.

SBD HRS

Her Royal Spyness = fun. I bought an audiobooks copy when it was on sale and it's my favorite listen of the year so far. No, wait, Ivan Vorpatril's book is.

Back to HRS, there was mention of someone calling 999 and I got all hot and bothered. The book is set in 1932 and surely that number hasn't been around for long. Turns out it was first in use in 1937. So a slight anachronism, but not off by decades as I'd imagined.

The voice is dry and funny (and the reader is excellent). I long ran out of P.G. Wodehouses so maybe that's why I wanted something full of upper-class twits and characters with names like "Binky" and "Wiffy." She does go on about her royal blood and I imagine it's not something someone born into that world would mention or think about much.

It reminded me of how Susan in the Spenser books goes on about having graduated from Harvard. Mike went there for grad school (like Susan) and years and years go by without a peep about the big H, except perhaps to say, "remember so-and-so?" sorts of conversations. In fact I think I've mentioned it more than he has--twice in the last couple of years, both times to gripe about Susan.

Hey, back to HRS. It's a cute book because the author's voice is a pleasure. I guessed the killer and his motivation early on but I still enjoyed the heck out of it and want to read more, now. Okay? Okay.
