'A Diminutive Delight'!
Here's a good solid review of Cracklescape from Brit Mandelo at Tor:The ability to weave a satisfying story with narrative movement and emotional resonance out of the simple details of familiar people living familiar lives, encountering only briefly something inexplicable to them and to us, is rare. It’s the sort of accomplishment that appears flawless and simple, nearly rustic, but is made up of

Cracklescape's first review
And it's a lovely one, from Gary K. Wolfe at Locus:
Cracklescape, he says,
may come as something of a revelation even to devoted Lanagan readers. It includes only four stories (together with an appreciative, brief introduction by Jane Yolen), but the settings are recognizably contemporary or near-contemporary Australia, and the tales themselves allude to familiar forms such as the ghost

Greylands - the Great eBook Debate
Everybody, while you can, you should visit @FIRECATz's soon-to-self-destruct Greylands ebook website, and take part in its e-book debate. I put up a post there, and lots of people commented at length—join the discussion while it lasts!

Fiji workshop - Truly, Madly, Deeply
Here it is, July, and July–August is the week of the writing workshop I'll be running at Daku Resort in Savusavu, Fiji. It's a small group so far, so you're guaranteed of a great deal of personal attention, but it would be terrific if I could interest a few more people in coming. Here is a thumbnail sketch of what we'll be covering:
During this course Margo will be encouraging you to write truly

Brides' second starred review!
Starred review at Kirkus Reviews:
Earthy, vigorous characters and prose ground the narrative in the world we know, yet its themes are deep as the sea. Daniel, son of a human father and his seal wife, wonders why “whosoever’s pain I thought of, it could not be resolved without paining someone else.” Intentions and actions, cause and effect are untidy and complicated, raising questions that will

Continuum 8
This is what I'll be doing program-wise at Continuum next weekend:
The Big Bad—Fairytale Villains, Saturday 11am in Pelham, with Angela Slatter, Nalini Haynes and Peter Ball—we will so slay those villains
Readings, Saturday 2pm in Faraday, with Alison Goodman, Cheryse Durrant and Jason Nahrung—could be selkie related, could be a chunk of Cracklescape. Maybe there'll be time for a taste of both.

May to June
It was nice to dabble around the edges of Sydney Writers' Fest over the weekend. Both panels I was on had good sizeable audiences with smart questions at the ready; both chairs chaired like champs, both sets of fellow panellists were a pleasure to panelise with.
Now it's back to novel-writing as much as I can in a fairly cluttered life, until, in a fortnight, Continuum 8 down in Melbourne, which

SWF Lanagan shenanigans
This year I'm on the grown-ups' program for the Sydney Writers' Fest, on a couple of interesting looking panels. You'll want to come to these, and it won't cost you a cent—hm, unless you live in Perth. Or LA. Anyway, here they are. They're both on Sunday:
Her Dark Materials at 11.30 in the Bangarra Theatre, with Lucy Christopher and Kirsty Eagar, facilitated by Hilary Rogers. "Is anything out

Home again
Well, I've been home for a good three weeks now—I didn't blog because the post would have amounted to, "Yes, so I did all those things on the list in the previous post", and not much more beyond "Travelling—it's a wonderful thing, isn't it?" and "The world, she is full of such strange stuff."I've just written a story (which I hope will make it into the Big Issue's fiction issue this year) that

Beijing appearances
Yes, I've fallen out of Adelaide Writers' Week, all dazzled by the sunshine and glory, and straight into frantic preparations for Australian Writers' Week in Beijing. Here's what I'll be doing:giving a speech at an International Women's Day breakfastgoing on a panel with Janette Turner Hospital and Ouyang Yu about "Storytelling on the world stage", at Renmin University (Tuesday 13 March at 3.30pm
