SQUALOR, NEW MEXICO, a coming-of-age story shrouded in family mystery, is set in east coast suburbia in the not-too-distant past.
A recent reader told me that her 18-year-old daughter thought it was "way cool" to read a YA novel about family problems, secrets, and mysteries that didn't involve cell phones, text messages, emails or computers. Sometimes good old-fashioned sleuthing has its merits, indeed!
