Michael Perry’s Voice Mail – Episode #241 (ARCHIVE DIVE #5): Cowboy Legs
Howdy folks:
Welcome to Michael Perry’s Voice Mail, episode 241. This one’s available to paid subscribers only. However, if you’re curious, please email orders@sneezingcow.com and we will get you a couple free weeks on us. Every fourth episode or so is free to everyone. You can find those episodes in the archive found here. Free episodes are ones without the lock symbol beside them.
In this episode I head down to the pole barn on another random archive dive and find yet another article I can’t for the life of me remember writing. It’s a humorous piece about my cowboy days. And it’s 90% true but only about 50% accurate. You’ll understand after you listen.
Okey-doke. See y’soon.

Same Quote, New Shirt
Way back when I recorded Never Stand Behind A Sneezing Cow, I wrote a line that summed up my small town. Turns out (based on a very scientific study of T-shirt sales) it summed up a lotta small towns all across this country.
Whether your small town is Up North, Down South, Out West or Out East, we’re happy to announce a brand new design of our popular small town T-shirt.
“Your classic small town has four bars, four churches, and just enough sinners to keep ’em all in business.” – Michael Perry
100% soft cotton. Unisex sizing.

Thank you notes
My booking agent will verify: We are not allowed to close out the booking file until I write the thank you notes. I also sent one to the artist who decorated that fungus for me.

Michael Perry’s Voice Mail – Episode #237 (ARCHIVE DIVE #3): Bad Poet
Howdy folks:
NEWS FLASH: IN THE RECORDING I SAID IT WAS EPISODE #238. IT’S NOT. IT’S #239.
Welcome to Michael Perry’s Voice Mail, episode 239. This one’s subscribers only. Click to listen here.
These weekly Voice Mails are brief—5-12 minutes—but I take my responsibility to subscribers seriously, including the responsibility to spend time crafting each episode, rather than just going off the cuff. I mean, there’s always some off the cuff, but in each episode I aim to include some piece of writing that I’ve spent time working up before I switch the microphone on.
Week-to-week I pretty much manage this, but every now and then I just ramble into the phone, especially this week, which is deer hunting week. Or “Holy Week” as many call it. So this morning I just sat in the woods and talked into my phone. I did the same thing last year. And even said some of the same things. But also some different things. You can compare and contrast by listening to that year-old episode here.
I hope that means I’m consistent. I know you as listeners are, and for that I thank you.

Wednesday, November 20, 2024: Michael Perry on THE CULTURE BUZZ – Michael’s Return to Iowa
Michael Perry joins THE CULTURE BUZZ with John Busbee today, Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at 11 AM CT. If you are in the Iowa area you can listen on KFMG-LP 98.9 FM. For those out of ear shot of their radio, the interview will be streaming simultaneously at www.kfmg.org.
At 11 AM CT, Michael Perry, a beloved storyteller, musician, and all-around good guy, brings his Midwestern charm to the Knoxville (Nov 20) and Marshalltown (Nov 21) public libraries for free performances. He will speak (if you’ve never seen Mike speak, you know “speak” doesn’t quite get it–more like roughneck standup comedy with a poetic twist) at these venues. Michael is a farm boy turned humorist, New York Times bestselling author, volunteer firefighter/first responder, corporate speaker, and amateur snow plow driver from rural Wisconsin. After leaving you laughing (and nodding, and sometimes getting misty) from his “reflective roughneck” takes on life in rural America, you will quickly become a fan.
“Michael Perry stands uniquely alone in his multi-faceted skills, blending Will Rogers and Mark Twain with dashes of Arlo Guthrie. You find your interpretation, and be prepared to bond with his oratorial and musical magic.” – The Culture Buzz
As part one of Michael Perry’s 2-day run in Iowa, he will speak (if you’ve never seen Mike speak, you know “speak” doesn’t quite get it–more like roughneck standup comedy with a poetic twist) at the Knoxville Public Library on Wednesday, November 20th, 2024 at 6:30 PM. Beaverdale Books will have books for sale and signing after the event at the MEET & GREET with Michael from 8 PM to 9:30 PM at the A&P Pub . Michael will be available for a quick chat and he will sign your book.
As part two of Michael Perry’s 2-day run in Iowa, he will speak at the Marshalltown Public Library on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 6:00pm in the library’s Community Meeting Room. This event is free. Beaverdale Books will have books for sale and signing after the event.

Episode #236: The Healing Day …peaceful persistence
Welcome to Michael Perry’s Voice Mail, episode 236. This one’s available to free and paid subscribers alike. Click here to listen.
Today I found myself drawn to revisit a piece I wrote about a song called “The Healing Day” by Bill Fay. It’s the piece from which the title of the book Peaceful Persistence came. And because the piece mentions sheep—and in particular my father’s sheep—I dug into the family archives for some of my favorite sheep pictures.
Thank you for listening,
Mike
